Third Frugal Friday of December 2023

Welcome to Frugal Friday!

Quote of the Week
Life is short,
And we do not have much time
to gladden the hearts of those who
make the journey with us.
So… be swift to love,
and make haste to be kind.

~  Henri Frederic Amiel (1821-1881)

My Frugal Week

I want to send a shout out to Bobi E, who sweetly sent me a Christmas card this week with a gift tucked inside. Thank you so much, Bobi. I'm so glad you are part of my blog. :)

Last Friday we put our Christmas Tree up and decorated the house for the holidays.

On Saturday I woke up bright and early and started a deep clean on the house and before the day was over we had the whole house vacuumed and mopped, just in time for the holidays.

Working as a team, we finally got through all the laundry that came to us as a huge lot of inventory for Bailey's shops. It was time consuming, but I'm thrilled it is all done now. And I was able to glean multiple “new” clothes for myself out of the lot, which made me happy.

All the Christmas presents have been paid for in cash and are wrapped and under the Christmas tree, ready for the big day. No charging any Christmas presents here this year.

I had a Shop credit for $5.oo on my Shop account, so I looked around and found an eyeglass necklace for $1.00 with $3.95 shipping, which was perfect! So, I ordered that and didn't have to pay anything.

I had to sew another button on this week. This time it was for a pair of pants Bailey had tie dyed and was missing the inner button on the waistband. My home economics teacher, Mrs. Cimo, taught me how to sew on a button properly back in 1981. I took three years of sewing in high school and made many clothes during that time.

The Prudent Homemaker said, "My largest money-saving in the last two weeks was buying as little as possible and using what I already have" in her blog this week and I agree with her. That's what we've been doing here as well.

Freebies

Someone gifted me some Estee Lauder time zone lotion this week, which is a line and wrinkle reducing creme with a SPF of 15. Very fancy and not something I would buy for myself. I looked it up online and that stuff costs a pretty penny.

Here is a fun "math" puzzle to figure out for you or for the children in your life. This came to me from our friend Linda, who is a math professor and went back to school in her 80s to earn her Masters Degree because retirement was boring for her.

Savings of the Week

Food City has Swaggerty's sausage on sale Friday and Saturday only, and priced at 2 for $5.00. Swaggerty's is my favorite sausage, so I will be picking up some and storing it in our freezer.

  2. It sounds like you and Bailey make a great team. You are very fortunate. "New" clothes are always nice! I love doing laundry, but I can see how a lot of new inventory might be overwhelming. I would have still loved it : ) Once as my sister and I were leaving a thrift shop, we saw a volunteer tossing a buggy full of stuff in the dumpster. I commented I liked the colors of a throw and my sister said well go ask if you can have it. Lol I'd never had the nerve without her prompting. The guy kindly let me take it and showed me several more blankets that my sister and I got for cat and dog bedding. The throw washed up beautifully and has a tag showing it was quilted by a lady in our town. I just love it! Such a beautiful treasure and it almost went to the landfill.

We are having our Christmas with our son and family this weekend. They spend Christmas with dil's family which is nice. We are fortunate to live close and have them the rest of the time. Since our son is an only child it makes me happy that he married into a large family that we love. I am happy with the gifts I've purchased, most were on sale. I'm still stumped by what to get the teen granddaughter. Everyone I ask says money or gift cards so unless I have a great idea pop up that's what she will get. I do have have a few minor gifts for her.

Belinda I hope you and Bailey have a wonderful weekend! Sky

    1. Oh, y gosh! That is so great that he let you have those blankets! We've asked like that before and were turned down, so I think it's great that you got to keep those. I hope you have a wonderful time with your family this weekend You are very fortunate to live close by them. That is how I feel about Bailey being so close to me. If she moves I will have to follow her. LOL

We hope you have a wonderful weekend too!

  5. Sounds like a great week. It is amazing that many do not know there is a proper way to sew a button! I learned that too - and still do it the same way.
    Have a great weekend.

  6. Love the quote! I used to practice random acts of kindness back in the day. I think the world would be a happier place if people were kinder.
Great job with the cleaning, decorating and presents.
I went to Food City this morning for the sausage deal too along with a few other specials. I also did the buy $50 gift card for $35 deal, so I think my shopping is done. I picked up the .99/lb ham at Kroger for our Christmas meal. Feels good to have everything bought and paid for...Now to enjoy the holidays.
Hope you have a great weekend.

    1. Thank you, Kathy. I agree the world would be so much better if people were kinder. I've often witnessed someone's demeanor change just from a small act of kindness. OMG on the sausage deal! What a great price! Did you get the coupons off their webpage? It made them like $1.58 each. I bought 12 of them, I am so excited. LOL

  8. Like you I started sewing (and cooking) in Home Economics. We actually started in Grade 7 and I kept taking the class up until Grade 12 when we moved. I loved that class. Sewed lots of clothing, learned how to set a table, how to make a menu, and lots of frugal cooking ideas.

Glad you found some new clothing items in the batch of inventory that Bailey got.

    God bless.

    1. I loved my Home Ec. classes too, Jackie. I still have recipes we used back then that I use today. I'm sure you do too. How lucky you were to have so many years in it. It's definitely a good thing. :)
