Mail Order Prescriptons
My daughter's Insurance company decided in January 2016 that maintenance medications would have to be filled by mail order rather than through a retail store pharmacy.
The problem with this was we were not informed about these changes. Therefore our limited number of uses for a retail pharmacy have been used up already.
My daughter also has a secondary insurance that will pick up the balance. There has been a lot of red tape involved in figuring out not only how to get her medicine in a timely manner, but also how to go about getting the medicine paid for by her second insurance.
The primary insurance company wants me to pay for the balance of her prescriptions out of pocket. My cost would be $474.69. This would be a huge blow to my budget, which is why I need the secondary insurance to pick up the balance.
As it stands right now I have asked the primary insurance company to let us use a retail pharmacy since they are refusing to coordinate benefits with our secondary insurance.
As of right now we are awaiting a response from them.

I can NOT even "go there" on insurance companies....sigh,...I wish you luck getting this resolved.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Meme.
DeleteOh, Belinda. This is awful. I hope you can get a satisfactory outcome, shortly.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lili.
DeleteUgh . .says the lady currently battling her own ins. company who declined/denied preauthorizing a new (but very expensive) medication. Sorry for your troubles. It is the squeeky wheel who tends to get resolution, however, remain steadfast!
ReplyDeleteI will Carol, thanks.
DeleteI have confidence that if there is an answer, you will find it as soon as possible. Does Bailey's college offer insurance or medical assistance for her? Praying.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure. It doesn't hurt to ask, so we'll be sure to check into that. :)
DeleteColleges offer more help than imagined if we ask. There is a chance that medical is offered at a community college. Who knows anymore?
ReplyDeleteShe is going to ask them next week and see what they say :)
DeleteMemphis has an outstanding Church Health Center that helps needy in unimaginable ways. Its physicians volunteer, and I know my PCP gives every extra pill supply to Church Health Center.
ReplyDeleteThat is terrific, Anna. :)
DeleteMy dh is taking a very expensive medication for an autoimmune disease. With insurance it would cost me $250.00 per month co-pay and using Costco it is $300.00 every three months. He right now is taking 6 of those pills a day. When he was only taking 4 the cost was $168.00 per three months. If there is a Costco near you call and ask the cost. You do not need to be a member and our insurance is like yours. We need to go through mail order after a couple of months of retail and trying the meds out. Cheryl
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cheryl. I will be sure to check at Costco too. While I'm at it I need to check at Sam's Club too.

DeleteWhat a pain...my mama's insurance requires her to mail order a lot of things, too. Sometimes they don't arrive when they should and then she has to pay for a doctor's visit for a "small" prescription amount from the pharmacist. Hope this all works out quickly for you.
ReplyDeleteAlso, my son's college required insurance and offered it at a decent price through the school. We declined it because we already had him insured, but it is definitely something worth looking into.
Thank you, Busy Bee. I'm sorry your Mama has had trouble with her mail order prescriptions too.
ReplyDeleteIn California lots of cases of postal employees taking stealing mail order prescriptions. Especially from the Veterans or VA. I think it is not so great to mail prescriptions. I am hopeful this is resolved
ReplyDeleteSoon. Have a wonderful week.
Patti
Oh no, Patti. I hadn't heard of that in California. :(
DeleteThank you, I hope it is resolved soon too.
