Frugal Friday

This was our deal of the week. We found gallon jugs of milk on August 1st for $1.39 at Kroger and the sell by date was August 12th. I was shocked! I bought three gallons and will put two of them in the freezer.

We bought four boxes of Lipton tea bags 100 count for $1.11 each. Publix sells them for $4.11, but had them on sale for buy one get one free and had a coupon for $1.00 off in their sales flyer. So, we were able to buy them for $1.11 each, which is a great deal for 100 name brand tea bags.

Kroger had Kool-Aid & Country Time lemonade on sale this week for $1.00 each and we had six coupons for 55¢ off one, so we paid 45¢ for each of these. I figured they were a good deal since the sugar was already included.

Some things I've done in my frugal kitchen today include...

I made cole slaw dressing this week to use with the cole slaw I bought on mark down at Kroger on Saturday.

I used up three bananas that were on the verge of spoiling to make Banana Pancakes so as not to waste them.

I made a chocolate cake with homemade peanut butter frosting.

And finally we are staying home today, so no money spent outside our home.

How have you been saving money this week?

  1. Hello, I have read your entire blog the past couple of weeks! I love it and admire you and your daughter! This week, I went to visit a second cousin who had surgery and was gifted a tub of bacon grease that I will use a spoon full at a time to season the big cans (thanks to you) of green beans and pork n beans I have been purchasing at Sam's Club. I have been making quite a good bit of small sales (all under $20) on Facebook. Got some freebie cat food in the mail that I will mix in with dog food (no cat).

    1. Thank you so much. I'm so glad you are here. Sounds like you are doing a great job saving money. And green beans with bacon grease taste so good. I grew up eating all kinds of beans seasoned that way. My parents both grew up in the south, so even though I grew up in the north a lot of my cooking is southern style.

And Sam's Club is the best. We were there this week to and bought cheese. They have such a good price on it.

I hope you have a great weekend. :)

  2. You are doing so great this summer, Belinda! Do you go back to work in just a couple of weeks?

Your deals were fabulous. I know Dollar Tree carries tea for a really cheap price, but the bags have half the amount of tea in them as name brands. I'm sure you will enjoy having the Lipton.

My week was pretty good. I had the once a month Senior shopping discount this week, so I picked up the items that were cheapest to buy there, with that discount. I'll hit WinCo and Dollar Tree this next week, and get some of the other items on my list. I used my fuel rewards to lower the price on a full tank of gas. I'm cleaning my own carpets this week, in small amounts per day, to spare my back. Went to art galleries for free, yesterday, for a fun day out. I'm cleaning today. If I have energy, one daughter and I will go to the cheap theater ($4 per person, and it is a movie I want to see) tonight, while everyone else is doing their own thing.

    Have a great weekend, Belinda!

    1. Thank you, Lili. Yes, school starts back on Monday, so I will probably be working next week. I already have 7 days lined up so far this year. They've already been calling me before school has even started. :)

I like the Senior discounts. I will have to see if I can get in on any of those. Fuel rewards are the best! We've been trying to get them for Kroger, but did not spend enough in July. I guess that is pretty frugal when you think about it, lol. :)

My daughter does the vacuuming in sections like you do your carpet shampooing. We have a huge area to vacuum, so it is easier to do it in sections. Anything to make it easier for sure.

We have a free Redbox rental we are getting today, maybe. What movie are you going to see?

    1. Thanks, Carol. I don't see it here in TN often, but the Kroger is Georgia is really good about it.

  4. The chocolate cake sounds delicious. Yum! :-) Keep up the great work. My parents were visiting to take care of the kids this week, so it wasn't terribly frugal. But, it was less than a summer camp or nanny. We also didn't eat out at all, but did have one emergency pizza delivery when there was a mix up with dinner. :-)

  5. Awesome finds on beverages! Lipton tea bags or Luzianne are our go to choices, but I find that the Walmart brand works pretty well, too. Do you ever price the gallon sized bags at Sam's Club? When I cannot find good prices or sales on the smaller bags I often buy those. However, we have cut down our tea consumption a lot and drink far more water. The last box I bought has lasted me a long time now.

    1. Thank you, Busy Bee. I love Luzianne tea, it is so good. I have not priced the gallon sized tea bags from Sam's, but I will check those the next time I go Thanks for the tip. :)
