My Frugal Week
We did not eat out at any restaurant, get take out, or eat any fast food in January. I would love to do the same for February as it really helps save money by eating at home.
On Saturday I was running errands close to Kroger, so I stopped in to pick up some sale items and to check their markdowns.
I found these two tubs of power greens on mark down for $1.57.
For sale items, I picked up five bags of their two pound bags of cheese for $5.99. They were out of the three pound bags of onions for $1.99 though.
I did find four packages of meat on markdowns though, which are now in my freezer along with the cheese.
Food Added to the Pantry this Week:
3 cans pears
3 cans green peas
4 cans corn
1 can mixed vegetables
Yukon Gold Potatoes
Oranges
15 Grapefruit
1 Sweet Potato
5 pounds russet potatoes
2 bags frozen peas
5 - 2 pound bags cheese
1 pound pinto beans
What’s for Dinner
Monday ~ Turkey BBQ, Baked Sweet Potatoes, and Sugar Snap Pea Stir Fry. I took the last of the turkey breast and chopped it up in my food processor and added BBQ sauce, pepper, and onion powder. It was a big hit and that made me happy.
Movie Night Tuesday ~ Leftovers, Chicken & vegetables for me and BBQ Turkey & vegetables for Bailey.
Wednesday ~ Chicken Sausages, Baked Potatoes, Brussel Sprouts.
Thursday ~ Tacos, Flour or Corn Tortillas, Red Onions, Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Tomatoes & Lettuce, and Corn.
Friday ~ We were on the road to Atlanta, so no dinner at home. We had taco leftovers before we left and brought cheese sticks and granola bars with us in case we got hungry.
Saturday ~ Grilled Beef/Cheese Hotdogs sans buns, Sautéed Cabbage & Onions, Choice of Baked Sweet or Yukon Gold Potato.
Sunday ~ Chicken Fajitas on choice of Corn or Flour Tortillas, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Red Onions, Cheddar Cheese, Bok Choy & Garlic, and Corn.
What’s been on the menu in your home this past week?

Your menu sounds great! I made lemon chicken last night (out of order, I know) & even the picky teen made it. It turned out really well, which is always a win. The lemons from our tree were super flavorful & full of juice, so that probably helped. (Hawaii Planner)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Lemon chicken sounds wonderful! That is so neat to have a lemon tree. I would love that!
DeleteGreat Kroger finds!!!!!! Color me jealous ;-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Elle. I do love those Kroger markdowns.
DeleteSounds like a tasty week! You found some great deals.
ReplyDeleteHope you had fun in Atlanta too.
I roasted a chicken last week and turned the leftovers into sandwiches and chicken/rice casserole. I'm wanting mexican this week, so I bought an avocado to make some guacamole, and that was the smallest most expensive avocado I have ever bought. I think it was mostly pit.
Hope you have a great week.
Thank you, Kathy.
DeleteWe had so much fun when we went to Atlanta. I have it written up in my Frugal Friday post for this week coming up.
That is so disappointing about the avocado! I went today and bought one onion, which was $1.24. Totally underheard of me buying one onion. We have to laugh or we would cry. LOL
Those are some great mark downs my friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim. It's being in the right place at the right time, which is a real blessing766666666666666666666666666.
DeleteWe had roast chicken on Sunday and now I have added 2 bags of leftover chicken meat to the fridge freezer. Of course the carcass was added as well. Your menu sounds excellent and what great markdowns.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you, Jackie. You sure can get a lot of meat out of a chicken.
DeleteI love Kroger markdowns! Meals all sound yummy. No eating out here in January as well. Meals from home.
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo! You rock, Cheryl. I love Kroger mark downs too.
ReplyDeleteWe had turkey tonight too. You did really well with the marked down meat -- and 93% lean no less! Good job on the markdowns :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mrs. Murphy. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time, which is a blessing. 💕
