Welcome to Frugal Friday!
My Frugal Week
This week I worked on wrapping and packaging Christmas presents. I figure if I do a few things here and there every few days it won't feel rushed when the time comes. On Saturday I packaged mini marshmallows into cups and papers and tied with pretty ribbons to include in the hot chocolate/mug packages I'm making.
Saturday also had me washing laundry. I tried on my winter coat from last winter and it is way too big for me now, so I washed it and gave it to Bailey to resell. I also sorted and washed the kitchen laundry afterwards. Not buying paper products for the kitchen saves us a lot of money each year.
I took the turkey breast out of the freezer on Monday to be thawing in order to cook it for Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. I made cornbread for the dressing on Wednesday.
I earned $12.34 from Amazon this week, which is for items my readers buy when using my link.
Hulu is being offered right now for 99 cents per month and it's the one streaming service where I can watch The Conners, so I signed up for that.
Thanksgiving was spent at home with just Bailey and me. We had a simple dinner of turkey breast, dressing, and green beans with onions, which was delicious and filling.
There is no need for us to spend a lot of money on food as we don’t eat that much to begin with and there is no need to spend extra money for special food. If there were more people here, I might consider that, but this works for us. We will be going to spend time with family on Saturday. I’ll be bringing a spoon bread corn casserole and chocolate cake.
In The News
Disclaimer: This is not meant to start a political discussion, but rather to let my readers know about a possible price increase in order that they can take steps to stock up before that happens.
Fox News is reporting that, "Trump says he will issue executive order to charge Canada, Mexico 25% tariff on goods upon taking office".
If you order your pet medications from Canada in order to save money like we do, you may want to buy them before Trump takes office in January.
And on that note, egg prices are going to surge once again as Avian flu has reared its ugly head again. Avian Flu has been found in Tennessee too in Gibson County in western Tennessee.

Happy Thanksgiving, Belinda. A quiet Thanksgiving is wonderful to destress before the hustle and bustle. I'm fine being political in blogs too, but facts are facts. As for eggs, my biggest strategy is to save eggs for eating and use other substitutes for baking like flax seed eggs or the aquafaber from chick pea cans. It'll save me a dozen eggs a month likely. $4 a dozen is the norm here so suspect they'll go higher.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you too, Sam. Using other substitutes for eggs in baking is a great money saver!
DeleteGlad you had a nice Thanksgiving. I did as well - with family. Today I have a little turkey breast now cooked and with make up a few other things to eat on over the weekend. I love T-day leftovers.
ReplyDeleteI’m so glad you had a good Thanksgiving too, Cheryl. We are having leftovers today too, delicious!
DeleteThanksgiving was nice here as well with one son and daughter in law and our almost three year old grandson. I think those tariff things are changing daily because there have been talks between the countries. A lot of what is on the news these day is is quite entertaining! Big deal of the week was Swaggerty's sausage for 8.98 today for Black Friday at Ingles and I used my mailer coupon for $3/2.
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you had a nice Thanksgiving too, Lana. Good deal on the Swaggerty’s. Sausage, it’s my favorite sausage. Time will certainly let us know what will become of the tariffs/price hikes. I hope it won’t be too bad.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving a bit late. I am glad you enjoyed your day.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you, Jackie.
DeleteHope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are starting to decorate now too. Wishing you and Bailey a blessed holiday season.
ReplyDeleteI think you are wise to buy your pet medicine now. I'm trying to think of things that I may need too. Unfortunately so many things that we need come from other countries, so I think prices will go up. I'm just trying to prepare as much as I can.
Thank you, Kathy. We did have a nice Thanksgiving. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving too.
DeleteYes, it’s better to prepare and not need to have planned ahead than not plan ahead and be having to pay higher prices later.
I wrapped a few presents tonight, bit by bit I’ll get there.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season too.
