Second Frugal Friday of November 2022

Welcome to Frugal Friday!

My Frugal Week

On Monday we found a new in the box cat condo on Facebook Marketplace for $25.00. These easily sell for three to four times this much, so this was a great deal.

Savings of the Week

This week’s award goes to Bailey who found brand new crates on the Walmart website for $1.00 each. She uses these for her business to store inventory. She has been slowly adding more to her business over the years via yard sales and thrift stores, but found a great price on the Walmart website and was able to stock up on them

Question of the Week

Have you gotten your flu shot yet? I received mine on Thursday and thanks to Insurance did not have to pay for it.

Avoiding Spending

It’s harder to avoid spending during this time of year since I’ve been Christmas shopping this week.

Saving Money In My Frugal Kitchen

Used up all leftovers to avoid food waste. Stopped in at the bread outlet for bread nd hamburger buns.

Food City had a good sale last week on canned vegetables and ground beef. If you bought $25 worth of store brand products they would sell you ten pounds of ground chuck for $1.99 a pound.

They had petite diced tomatoes, corn, and green beans on sale for 59 cents per can with a limit of 12, so I bought twelve each of all three of those.

I also bought the five for $19.99 meat special. Each item works out to $4.00 with this deal. I bought sausage in the 21 ounce package for that price while $4.00 is the going rate for one pound of sausage these days, this will give us five extra ounces for the same price.

I picked up a marked down package of apples and one of potatoes while I was in Food City too.

One way Frugal Queen is saving money in her kitchen is buying food for all three meals each day for the month before she buys anything else and then if there is any money left she might snacks with that money. We do two meals per day here, which include brunch and then dinner.

Meals This Week

Hamburgers
Tacos
Leftovers plus cucumber tomato salad, grapes and broccoli
Pork, Carrots, Potatoes, Corn on the Cob
Pigs in a Blanket
Baked Beans, Roasted Potatoes, Broccoli
Chicken, Roasted Potatoes, Corn

Recipe of the Week

This is a recipe for a small shell to fill with either sweet or savory contents. I’ve used it for tuna pate and for blueberry cheesecakes. It’s a good recipe to use with the holidays coming up and much cheaper than any you can buy in the store.

Cream Cheese Shells

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 three ounce package cream cheese
1 cup all purpose flour (do not use self rising)

Directions:

Combine butter and cream cheese, mixing well until smooth.
Add flour and mix well.
Chill for one hour.
Shape dough into one inch balls.
Place each in a well greased miniature muffin tin.
Shape each one up the sides of the muffin tin.
Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
Allow to cool before filling.

  1. I will use that shell recipe. What a good recipe to upscale some fun recipes. Bailey's shop seems to be doing well. She did have a good find.

    1. The shell recipe is good for all types of fillings, Sam. Fun stuff included. 😊 Thank you on Bailey’s crates.

  2. Woohoo on the ground beef price - that is fantastic!
We haven't had any place to do those meat packages since Marsh grocery left. They used to do that - but no one else around here does. That would be nice.
    Have a great weekend.

    1. Thank you, Cheryl. I was tickled over the price of the ground beef. I wish you all did have that deal in your area. It can be a good money saver.

  3. (Little Penpen) looks like another good week, especially for Bailey and her totes! Good score on the cat condo, too! I ordered a Christmas gift from Etsy last night. It’s my first one so far.

    1. Thank you! She thinks it was a glitch now as the price has went back up now, but she is happy that she was able to get some at that price.

  5. We save all year for Christmas so I don't feel bad about spending that money. Amazon has had really great deals on toys for the grandchildren this year. We bought twelve pounds of butter for $2 a pound so that our big wil for the week!

    1. That is a great way to look at it, Lana. Saving all year long for Christmas is a great way to not let it eat into your budget at the end of the year. What a fantastic deal on bitter too!

  6. I am going to try that shell recipes I bet my kids will love that, so will the grandkids. We have corn, peas and green beans for .50 a can here. I just bought 6 cans of each for now, as we have some in stock here.

    1. I think you’ll find that people like the shell recipe. Good deal on stocking up on canned vegetables. They weren’t as cheap here as yours, but we both got in on a good deal. Kudos to us!

  7. What a fantastic price on the crates and well done on working that grocery deal! I had to read that 65 things to not pay for & I very respectfully disagree with many items on the list. I had to chuckle at the diamonds one, because De Beers is a South African company and we produced most of the world's gold & diamonds years ago. Diamonds & gold can both be very valuable long term (especially gold).

I ordered my Ray Ban prescription glasses from GlassesUSA. After all the discounts, I ended up getting 2 pairs for the price of one. One pair is progressive, which costs way more than readers. So there is a way to get designer items without paying designer prices. Shopping for anything is all about timing and how you work the deals. Hope you & Bailey have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Thank you, Ms, Goose. I agree with you on the gold and think it’s better to have on hand than currency. Great deal on your glasses. I love reading about your deals on your blog. You know how to do them right. I hope you also have a great weekend.

  8. That shell recipe sounds wonderful. Once my oven is off of its second vacation in a little over three weeks I am going to give it a try.

Good for Bailey on finding such a great deal.

    God bless.

  9. What great deals!
I'm glad that Bailey found such a good price on the crates.
Great prices at Food City too! They have some good sales although I didn't see too much for this week. I bought the .39/pound turkey at Kroger. Aldi had some items at 2019 prices, although not as many as I was hoping. I did buy butter for $2.49.
Oh thanks for the recipe for the shells! My Mom would make pecan tassies for the holidays using those cream cheese shells, and they were the best! Thanks for the memory. I'm going to have to make them this year.
Have a great weekend. We are off to a baby shower back in my hometown, the first baby of that generation in my family. :)

    1. Thank you, Kathy. What a great deal you found on butter. It was $2.99 here this week. The pecan tastiest sound so good. I wonder if they are the same recipe I have? A baby shower sounds wonderful. How neat that it. Was the first baby in that generation.

  10. That is an amazing deal for a cat condo. I hope your kitties find hours of enjoyment and orneriness on their new "jungle gym". :)

Good score for Bailey. I bet she was so happy.

No flu shot for me. I am allergic to it. I wish I could have one more than anything. I am grateful I can have the Covid shots. Maybe next year when Pfizer combines the flu & Covid shots together it will change the formula and I can have a flu shot.

If you get insurance through the Healthcare Market Place all vaccines are free, no matter what type. I don't think a lot of people realize this is part of their insurance with them.

Signed up for Marketplace this week. Got a better plan and the price went down. I was so surprised and grateful. My husband is actually making a lot more so I thought this year we would have a higher rate.

All Christmas shopping finished! :) I am decorating this week. The month of December and the rest of t his month I will have no holiday expenses.

Friday- I had just let my dog outside. She was out there for ten minutes at the most. I heard her start barking like something was wrong. I ran outside & I couldn't find her in our yard. It is a fenced yard. I am panicking and crying her name. This man comes out from behind my big tree in my yard, holding my dog. I am screaming bloody murder. She wiggled out of his arms. She's a whippet so she is really strong. She comes running to me. He is threatening me & I am just losing it in my yard. Not thinking straight. Luckily, I live on a corner lot so he took off in case somebody came by.

I called my husband in hysterics. My husband is completely freaking out about this. This guy was trying to steal our dog! My husband comes home from work. This guy was trying to break into our shed, he was trying to steal our dog. He trashed our yard.

We bought a heavy lock for our gate, no trespassing sign and we will be investing in a better fence that if somebody tries to get into our yard they will get hurt. That is going to be a huge expense. Thieves throw your frugality right out the window.

The police said there was only so much they could do. So upsetting and frustrating.

    1. Oh my gosh, how upsetting! That is just terrible. I’m so sad for for you. I’m glad your dh came home straight from work. Yes, having to secure the place will definitely make frugality go out the window, unfortunately. But better to be safe than sorry.

What breed of dog do you have?

That is great about the price going down with your insurance. I noticed that too about the marketplace insurance, the more I made the cheaper the insurance. I did not know that about the shots being free. They should advertise that more so people will know. Thank you for telling us. 😊
