Third Frugal Friday of October 2022

Welcome to Friday!

Price of Gas this Week

$3.05

My Frugal Week

Our electric bill came this month and it was $218.54 for our all electric house. The September bill was $352.24, so that is a difference of $133.60, which is why I love the cooler weather.

On Sunday I made a birthday cake for Bailey who had a birthday on Monday. She likes having experiences rather than a present, so we went to Chattanooga on Monday and went to several places including Dave and Buster’s. We had never been there before, but it’s like an indoor arcade for adults and children. We had a really good time.

Joy of the Week

Bailey loves to read and therefore we usually find ourselves in a bookstore somewhere. We ended up at both Barnes & Noble and Books a Million this week. One of my favorite things to do is browse a bookstore. Any books that I find I want to read I snap a picture of it and then try and find it inexpensively online.

Avoiding Spending

I took Bailey out to her favorite Mexican restaurant for her birthday, but other than that I did have six no spend days this week.

Saving Money In My Frugal Kitchen

The price of a dozen eggs being compared to one pound of meat makes me feel better about the price of eggs lately.

Meals This Week

Breakfast for Dinner
Baked Potatoes, Green Beans & Onions, Marinated Cucumbers
Ham, Hot Potato Salad, Green Beans & Onions
Chicken Teriyaki, Rice, Broccoli
Grilled Chicken Salads
Empanadas
Italian Subs

A short blog post for this week as we’ve been out of the house several days this week. I hope you’ve had a good week. Thank you for dropping by my frugal blog, you are always welcome here.

  1. Great on the electric bill! Your gas is much cheaper than ours -cheapest here is still 3.79 and that is a little drive. Most is 3.85 or so.
Happy belated birthday to Bailey! Sounds like a nice day out.
    Your meals sound tasty.
    Have a great weekend.

  2. I understand your point on eggs. A dozen eggs gets us 6 good servings, compared to even making hamburgers from inexpensive ground beef, where we'll get four. Happy Birthday to Bailey.

  3. Good going on the electric bill!! Happy Birthday to Bailey! I love browsing book stores too Belinda. When I lived in the city, I would spend hours at the big 4 story book stores!

  4. Happy Birthday to Bailey! I know what you mean about the eggs and the prices of meat. I can think of several egg meals to replace meat if we have to do so. I bought a very small cart full of groceries today and spent $93. It's just shocking! NC has higher gas prices than you do. I try not to worry about it too much, as I do very little driving. It's all so crazy these days. Praying for a big change soon! I, too, love to find cheap books. Smart of you to snap a pic to remember for later.

    1. Thank you, Penny. The grocery store is shocking these days. We picked up just a few items the other day and it was $55, just nuts! I hope it does go back down sometime soon.

  5. Hi Belinda! I love to read too and I do the same thing when I go into a bookstore. I always take a picture of any books that I would like to read, then I check to see if the library has it, if not then I buy it used online. Books are crazy expensive in the stores. You can get them for half price or less online. Even the Goodwill has gotten expensive on their books. There is a wonderful used bookstore that gives you credit when you trade in your used books and buy their used books but it is about 20 miles from me so I don't go there often. I wish it was closer to me because I would be there all the time! Happy belated birthday to Bailey!

    1. Yes, you can get much better deals online for books than in a book store. We have a used book store I. Chattanooga that we go to from time to time. Those are the best! Thank you for the birthday wishes for Bailey. 😊

  7. I smiled when I read your comment about cooler weather. Over here, the fuel bills go up as it gets colder and the central heating clicks in. No air con, you see. xx

  8. Happiest of birthday wishes to Bailey! Sounds like a great day!
I have never been to Dave and Busters, but it sounds like such fun! My son wanted to go to the pinball museum for his birthday this year, and I think we played over 70 games. I agree with Bailey, I think the experiences and memories are the best!
Hope you have a fun weekend too.

  9. Happy Birthday Bailey! I remember when she was so little when we were all on the AOL board. Now, she is a beautiful young woman. I won't believe you when you tell us she is thirty, lol.

I am envious of everyone who can eat eggs. I am allergic to them. No flu shot for me either. :(

I like the tip about the books. I write down the whole title and author on my phone. Taking pictures would be easier, lol.

Quiet frugal week here. Just trying to get back into routine and normalcy since we don't have to move now.

    1. Thank you, Safyne. Times goes by so quickly when we get older that it won’t be long before she turns 30. I’m sorry you are allergic to eggs. Bailey has her share of allergies, so we know how you feel. She has that fruit pollen allergy and it stinks. I take pictures of the ISBN number too so as to be sure to get the right copy of the books I want to read. Nice quiet frugal weeks are very good indeed. 😊

  10. The price of a dozen eggs is outrageous!! It's a pain in the foot these crazy food prices. We'll just have to keep being frugal with our cash too get through this stuff.
