Freedom comes from owing nothing.
I found a beautiful Proverbs 31 mug with a lid at a yard sale this summer. It’s the perfect hostess gift for a family member.
I once read before about a family with a modest income that spent hundreds of dollars on Christmas gifts. Not long after they struggled financially because they did not expect car repair bills or an extra high heating bill. They got into trouble because they lived above their standard of living.
Setting limits on gifts will help keep funds available for our needs and those unplanned expenses that come up in life.

I'm glad all went well with your hernia surgery. I hope you are feeling good. That video was great! In my family we always pick something frugal to do at Christmas - one year the requirement was second hand gifts only and it was great. We all had so much fun with it, and everyone got things they loved. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. I’m feeling good and didn’t even need any Tylenol. I love your second hand gifts only Christmas. That is a great idea! I’m glad you liked the video. I thought it was interesting. Belinda
DeleteSo glad you didn't have any complications from the hernia surgery. Hope that you are healing well.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the video since I could see my Mom doing many of those things in 1961. I remember the green stamps in the late 1960s, and Mom would buy some Christmas presents with the green stamps. We didn't have a lot of money, but she could make the money stretch, and we sure had good times and good memories.
Hope you have a great weekend.
Thank you, Kathy. I’m doing very well on the healing process. I remember the green stamps too as we had a kitchen drawer with them in there. My parents had to stretch to make it work back then too, so I understand. I hope you also have a great weekend! Belinda
DeleteDear Belinda, thank God you had no complications from the surgery 🙏
ReplyDeleteI love ❤️ old videos of recipes and budget, thank you so much for sharing. I have watched videos about rationing from WWII and I find this fascinating.
I pray 🙏 that you continue to heal and do well, dear friend.
Thank you, Linda. I’ve been concentrating on getting protein in this week to aid in the healing process. I too enjoy the videos on rationing from WWII. We are kindred spirits. Thank you again for your good wishes on my recovery.

I am very glad that your surgery went well. Rest and recuperate as best as you can. I had read about using a quilt on your headboard when on an outside wall a very long time ago. That really worked when we lived in the trailer/mobile home many years ago.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you, Jackie. I’m happy to hear the quilt tip worked well for you all.

I'm glad that your surgery went well.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for second hand gifts! I actually gave my mother-in-law a second hand idea for my daughter. She sent me a text this week saying her sister found the item for a great price.
Thank you, Wendi. That is wonderful that your MIL’s sister found the second hame item for your daughter. I love that!
DeleteMy sister gave me a Christmas gift, and as I opened it she said, "I hope you don't mind this is used. It was a very heavy silver bowl with a rolled edge, piercing all along the sides, and a ding. I told her I am sure out great grandmother must have put the ding in the bowl. I figured I might as well give it a good history. I use it for rolls wrapped in a nice napkin. Books are nice second-hand.
ReplyDeleteThrow the blanket over the headboard. The extra bulk between the headboard and mattress will help keep cold air from rising on your head. You can even stuff another blanket to keep air out like at the bottom of windows and doors, a draft dodger for your bed.
My bedroom was originally a parlor. It had three outside walls. One of those had three windows. The fourth wall had a drafty fireplace that was never used. Plus, nothing was insulated in 1902 when the house was built.
Tht sounds like a lovely bowl your sister gave you, and you've found a good use for it I'm all about second hand books as some prices on new books are out of reach to some people.
DeleteThose are some great tips on keeping the cold out of the bedroom. Sounds like the voice of experience having/living in a house built in 1902. I'm sure there is a gret deal you can teach us. :)
Belinda I'm glad you are resting and the surgery went well.
ReplyDeleteI got curious and went online to look at our electric/gas bill it's going to $80 more because of the cold weather. It's to be expected though. I can't wait to watch your recommended channels they sound very interesting.
I'm also going to put a blanket over my headboard. Our bedroom has three windows so this was a great suggestion. Thankyou to the previous commentor. comments are priceless.
Have a great weekend
Thank you, Vickie. I loved that idea about the quilt on the headboard and I’m tickled you’re going to do it too. My sister is up in Michigan too and says it’s colder up there now, so I see why your electric bill is higher. I like to go online and check our electric usage about once a week. Keeps me on my toes. 😂
DeleteI hope you have a great weekend too.
