Third Frugal Friday of July 2025

Welcome to Frugal Friday!

Quote of the Week

My Frugal Week

On Sunday evening we trapped the raccoon that had been tormenting us. I’m so glad to have him rehomed somewhere else.

On Monday & Thursday I worked on getting the laundry washed including my bed linens. On Wednesday I worked on my other usual household tasks, which keeps our home running smoothly. We also weed eated in the yard some.

Back on July 5th an anonymous person left me this comment about a can opener…

This is the NUFR Heavy Duty Crank Can Opener I’ve seen on Amazon, so I ordered it last week. I don’t have a number ten can in the house to open right now, but when I do I’ll be ready. I've had so much trouble with other can openers lasting for any length of time when it comes to the number ten cans.

Deal of the Week

UGO had Jimmy Dean turkey sausage patties on sale this week for $1.00 per box of eight patties.

This is a big savings over the retail price at Kroger, which sells this same box for $6.49.

We bought four boxes of them, which each held eight packages, which is a total of 32 boxes. The retail value of 32 boxes at Kroger would have been $207.68, but we only paid $32 for ours, which makes this the best deal of the week.

Health News

I received a good report from my recent mammogram last week.

On Tuesday I was able to get an opening and went back to the hospital and had the kidney stent removed. The urologist blasted the stone and put in a temporary stent to remove any fragments left from the stone.

Here is an updated picture of me that I took on Tuesday.

Avoiding Spending

We did not avoid spending this week as we needed supplies for several different things such as groceries and such. And Bailey plans on going to yard sales this weekend, so that will be money spent too.

Saving Money on Entertainment

This week I broke down and joined Netflix for $7.99 per month with ads. I just decided that with being sick lately, I wanted to be able to just veg out, lay in bed, and watch stuff. I don’t know if we will keep it or not, but it’s cheaper than going out to the movies.

    the kidney stone issues.
They are awful and the stents are too.

  3. Wow, not that's a bargain in sausage. I sure hope you've reached the turning point in your health. You look fantastic and hope you're back to getting out and about pain free soon. Two things to recommend on Netflix, The Residence, and while very gritty and hard to watch at times, Depart Q. With the heat, I just let myself watch more TV the past two weeks before going to bed.

  4. That was me who posted about the can opener. I didn't realize that I posted anonymously until afterwards; I must not have been signed in or something. I have really gotten good service out of mine, and use it for all sizes of cans. I hope you find it useful. You look incredible! I have been struggling with my weight for so long, but keep losing and gaining the same few pounds over and over; just can't seem to make any real progress. Glad to hear you're over the hard part of the kidney stone issue and hope it's smooth sailing from here on out.

Thank you, I worked really hard to lose the weight and regain my health and continue to work on it every day. I am amazed at how good I feel these days and the new knees are really helping me to be so much more active.

      Thank you again.

  7. Belinda, you look so happy and healthy. Thank you for the tip on the can opener. I found an EZ duz IT. I bought it 15 years ago and it is still going strong. I don't open as many #10 cans though.

    1. Thank you so much, Amy. I feel so much better.

I have and LOVE my EZ duz It can opener. It's a great can opener for everyday use. It doesn't work very well on the number ten cans though for some reason. I don't know if its due to the way the cans are made or what.

The EZ duz It is a great can opener though and has lasted me a good long time too. That's great that yours has been going strong for 15 years! That says a lot about it.

  9. What a great buy on the sausage. There is a UGO in Fort Payne, an hour and a half north of here. Now that I have a fridge for the car (bought for a cross country road trip that didn't happen) I think I will make a trip there one day soon just to explore and see what I can find. TheHub wants to go to Mentone which is in the same area anyway and we might as well kill two birds with one stone.
    You look amazing!

See if that particular UGO has a Facebook page. Then follow it as this is how I realized they had the sausage on sale. The store close to us lists deals just about everyday, so I be sure to check them. If you do ever get up that way, I would love to hear about it.

  11. Belinda, I just can't stop looking at your picture!! I wanted to ask you to post a new picture of yourself but thought maybe that would be rude to ask. You look amazing and I am so proud of you! I wish I could sit down and talk to you about how you did it. Was there a certain plan that you followed? What a great deal you got on your sausage! That is quite a savings. I also like to watch Sara on Frozen Pennies. She is good. I'm so glad you are feeling better. I've had kidney stones before, so I know how painful they are. Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you, Bobbi. A lot of hard work, change of diet, eating right and eating less, eliminating all sugar, pasta, bread, lots of exercise with one hour every day on my bike pedals and then when I got my new knees, lots of walking. So, various tools and a lot of help from other people and I give all the glory to God for giving me my life back. I wouldn’t trade it for anything or go back to the way I was before. A lot changed for me after my Mom passed away and that had a lot to do with it too. I wish both my parents could see me today and I know they would be happy for me. Thank you again. I love my new life from a physical perspective as I get around so much easier now.

    2. Maybe I’ll publish a before and after picture. What would you all think of that? I have one from before which shows how bad my lymphedema was, which was the final catalyst for change for me. I simply was not going to live with that. Let me know if you’d be interested in seeing that.
