$0 for the repair is a great price. So glad for you that this all happened under warranty. A similar thing happened to my computer earlier this year; an update killed the hard drive, but fortunately, it was under warranty and they replaced basically all of the insides. Phew! :)

ReplyDeleteThe reason most people would replace instead of fix is BECAUSE THE COMPANY makes it cost too much to repair.
This is such a throw away society.
It certainly is, Cheryl. It's so sad. It's that way with computers, appliances, almost anything we use these days.

ReplyDeleteMy first laptop had to be repaired just a couple of days before it's warranty expired. I think things shouldn't break when they are not even a year old, but I'm glad you got it done under warranty.

ReplyDeleteOne year after we closed for our newly constructed house, our contractor's warranty was fulfilled. The following day, 9 leaks from rain appeared in the family room ceiling. DH contacted the contractor to report the problem. The contractor's roof repair lasted 7 years. We then installed a new roof that is to last 30 years. Oops, had the roof checked 3 years ago when 2 separate contractors estimated the roof would last 3 to 4 years. We have saved more than enough for a roof replacement, knowing the future.
Then 11 years ago, we bought a $1700 plus tax fridge/freezer. Its repair would have been $665 if it had not gone kaput within warranty time. A washer and 2 dishwashers have done the same but were not in warranty.
Anyone with a solution?
It's so frustrating, Anna. It's good to keep track of all your warranties, owner's manuals, and receipts to have them fix these it it's on their watch still. My Mom couldn't find a dryer receipt when it was time to fix hers a few years ago an she ended up buying a new one.

DeleteI had my first washer with 5 of us last 17 years the next one lasted 7 and the next one 5 it seems like they are making them cheaper and cheaper.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly does. Our first washer in this house lasted almost 30 years. They don't build them like that anymore though.
