Update from the Frugal Workshop
Hello to all my frugal readers. :)
For the past month I've been working a long term substitute job, which explains my absence here on the blog. The assignment, which started out being two weeks, has increased each week and right now I am on schedule to sub for at least five weeks. As you can imagine, I am thrilled for a variety of reasons.
Even though I am working everyday, I still take the time to cook dinners from scratch and take my lunch to work everyday. We have not eaten out dinner even one time since I started this job. We have goals that we want to reach (buying our own home) and eating out moves us farther away from that goal.
There are several projects on my to do list this weekend including repairing a couple of clothing items. I also have a three ring binder that needs some repairs with duct tape along with the usual weekend chores of hauling off garbage, laundry, cleaning, and cooking.
It's chilly here tonight and they are calling for snow flurries here this weekend, so I made chili for dinner tonight, which is the perfect thing for cold weather.
Frugal Things I've Done This Month...
1. Attempted to use a $10.00 reward certificate that was about to expire, but the item was put on back order and my account was credited with $10.00 instead, which works for me since it was about to expire.
2. I repaired two work shirts for my niece. Her boss gave her second hand shirts when she started working there and she had washed them so many times that the material in the armpit area needed to be repaired rather than just stitched along the seam. Her Dad does so many nice things for us that I was so happy to be able to do something so simple for her. She was thrilled that I did this for her.
3. As we were driving by Fresh & Low the other day while running errands I noticed a sign that said they had greens for 39¢. We make a quick stop inside to pick up this great deal.
4. We made one trip this month to Kroger to get in on some great yellow sticker items. I plan to do this at least once a month to get in on those good deals.
Until next time...
Belinda

Hi Belinda,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know that your absence from posting has been for a good reason! That's awesome that you've had this longterm sub position.
Good job on not getting takeout, even though you are probably quite tired at the end of each day! You know your priorities. One of the thoughts that has been keeping me from getting takeout is I don't want to catch the bug that seems to be going around. Right now, I can't afford to get sick. So that's further good motivation to cook at home, every day.
Enjoy your weekend!
Thank you, Lili.
DeleteI know what you mean abut catching the bug that is going around. I am bringing a can of Lysol to school with me Monday just to be on the safe side. :)
Hope you have a great weekend. :)
How awesome that you have these weeks of work!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend and I hope you avoid whatever is going around. The school district my husband works in had over 100 kids out with flu.
Thank you, Busy Bee. :)
DeleteOh no! 100 students out is a lot! I hope your husband and you do not end up with that either.
Hoping you have a terrific weekend.
That is great Belinda! I am so glad you have had steady work. We use a Neti pot and that has helped.I even saw them at Dollar Tree Good job on the cooking at home. I love things from the crock pot this time of year.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Patti
Thank you, Patti. I did not know the Dollar Tree had neti pots - that is great! I will have to look for one. :)
DeleteHi Belinda, thanks for checking in, I had noticed that you have been off line for a bit, it's all good as my son would say! Looks like you are continuing on your frugal path, avoiding take out, which would be so tempting at the end of the day! Great that your absence has been due to a full work schedule. Stay well!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carol. I hope you are doing well too. :)
DeleteHi Belinda,
ReplyDeleteI have missed your posts, but I am happy that it's been for a great reason.
It is WONDERFUL that you have a long term sub. position. Seeing you at school can help the other teachers think of you when they need time off, and get you other jobs subbing. :)
Here in the Memphis area, the stomach crud has been going around too. I'm doidng my best to stay well by avoiding touching my eyes, nose and mouth in addition to washing my hands when I get home from being out and about.
I hope both you and your daughter stay healthy during this cold and flu season.
Best wishes,
Ellie
Thank you, Ellie. :)
DeleteI hope you and yours stay healthy during this season too. I try hard not to touch my face and use hand sanitizer. And eat healthy too!
You take care. :)
Thanks for touching base!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ms Sandie, I hope you are doing well. :)
DeleteHow wonderful that you have sub work and also that you are sticking to your plans for saving.
ReplyDeleteGlad you checked in and I hope February continues on a good path for you and your family.
Thank you so much, Mary Lou. I hope you are doing well too. :)
DeleteBelinda, I hope you both stay well. It amazes me that you're cooking dinner every single day while working. My goal is to go an entire week (not *month*, just a week!) without a restaurant meal or takeout. I love to cook, but I also love restaurants!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jean. We love restaurants too, so some days it is easy while other days not so much. LOL
