Yard Sale Saturday

This weekend we not only went to several yard sales, but also to the Sweet WeePeets semi-annual consignment sale. 
Yesterday most items were 75% off because it was the last day of the sale. 
We went when they opened the doors and found some really great stuff. 
Here are the items I picked up yesterday.

Frugal Friday 12-21-2018

We made it to Friday! I was able to work both days they had school this week and now students are off for Christmas break until next year. 
The eagle landed this week with payday and all the bills have been paid for the month, which is a good feeling. I know we are fortunate and so we count our blessings daily.

The Samaritan Center in Ooltewah had their annual sale on Monday this week. They open the doors at 9 a.m. and close them at 3 p.m. They let you fill a bag with clothes for $5 while everything else is 50% off. 
Towards the end of the day everything is free, furniture included. They then spend the next week restocking the store and have a grand reopening sale on December 27th. It is a lot of fun if you enjoy these kinds of things My daughter went and was able to pick up 37 pieces for $20.00, so 54¢ each.

On Wednesday we went to pick up a few last minutes things for Christmas. We went to Food City and I found three cans of fruit in the Crash & Burn section for 79¢ each. We also found two three pound packages of ground beef for $4.99.

I finished wrapping all of my Christmas presents on Thursday. We did not have to buy any supplies this year for wrapping since we bought supplies on clearance after Christmas last year. 
I was worried that we were going to run out of tape since the tape I was using was bought a few years ago. We didn't run out though, maybe we can make it through next Christmas too. LOL
****************************** This year I joined the My Frugal Home Secret Santa gift exchange 2018. Erin used Elfster.com to create the group and she drew names on December 9th. 
The object was to spend $10 on the gift. Erin said us frugal types could do a lot of with $10 and you know that Bailey & I coupon, so this was easy for us to do. 
The package I sent contained four brand new Christmas cloth napkins, a cookbook from our local radio station, several little notebooks, a new razor and shave cream, tea bags, and two bars of lavender soap. 
The package I sent has already been received and appreciated. Today a package came for me!  

Mine came from Canada and came with two homemade dishcloths, a homemade pair of socks, two infinity scarves, a keepsake Christmas book, and a lovely card. I loved everything in my package. :)
This was so much fun that I plan on doing it again next year!

My Frugal Weekend

I made $11.95 on an item I sold on Ebay this weekend. This was for an item I paid $10 for to use myself, but it ended up not working, so I was able to recoup my money for the item, which is good. 

We went thrift shopping on Saturday. I found a bag full of gift bags for 99¢. There were 10 gift bags in the lot, so they ended up being 10¢ each. 
Even with thrift stores you really have to watch the prices. I found these gift bags at the Salvation Army thrift store. The ones at the Provident thrift store were priced starting at 99¢ each, so it really pays to check prices even with thrift stores. 

I also found a Charles Panter Griscer Deluxe food grinder for $9.95. I love that this is non-electric. I have fond memories of a lady that I knew years ago who would make carrot salad with one of these. 

I also found a Roseville Robinson Ransbottom crock for $1.99. These are so beautiful to me and I find them very useful to store things. I have one on my desk that holds pens and scissors. 
One of the items I was looking for was flannel, but I didn't find any in the price range I was willing to pay, so I will keep looking for that item. 
My Mom requested flannel pajama bottoms for Christmas, so I am looking for a deal on them. In the meantime I found a pattern for them for 10¢ at the thrift store, so I picked that up. If I find flannel at a good price before Christmas, I will make her some. Otherwise, I am still looking for a good deal on them. 
We are staying home today as my daughter has school work and I have several things I want to do at home. I hope you are having a great weekend.  :)

Second Frugal Week November 2017

There was a Veteran's Day program at the school where I worked on Monday. After the program was over, teachers were able to go in and have any lunch items that were left. 
I had some delicious chicken noodle soup, scalloped potatoes, green beans, half of a pimento cheese sandwich, sausage balls, and a brownie. It was so good too. It is always nice to eat someone else's cooking for a change. 
I brought my lunch back home and will eat it tomorrow. After school I came home and made spaghetti with garlic bread and steamed broccoli for dinner. 

Kroger is having their Buy 10 Save $5.00 sale, so on Tuesday I went to Kroger and bought the following sale items. 

Betty Crocker Cake Mix 49¢ (I bought two)

Ronzoni Pasta 49¢ (I bought 40 boxes)

Del Monte tomatoes 49¢ (I bought 50 cans)

Milk 99¢ (I bought 4 - 2 skim & 2 chocolate)

Kroger Cheese 3.79 (16 ounces)

Bob’s Red Mill Sale 20% off 

One thing I bought at Kroger was a bag of Bob's Red Mill brown rice flour. Kroger had Bob Mill on sale for 20% off and I had a coupon for $1.00 off from a free magazine, so I paid $1.22 for the bag. 

We also went thrift store shopping on Tuesday before we bought groceries. I found two ink-jet cartridges for our printer, they were marked at $1.99, but the cashier only charged us 10¢ for them. These normally cost $18.99, so a great savings there. I also found a new book of scrapbook papers for 25¢. A brand new deck of playing cards for 49¢ and a flower pot for 49¢.

On Tuesday I needed to have a new battery installed in my car, which cost $110. My brother in law installed it for me, so no cost there.  

I received a $50 Walmart card from my insurance company for having a mammogram in October. I will either use this for gas in the car or Christmas presents. 

I worked four days this week and have all of next week off for Thanksgiving. Today we are going thrift store shopping again. What are your plans for the weekend?

My Frugal Week

I used Gas Buddy.com to find the lowest gas in my area and then filled up my car. I saved $1.30 by doing this, which would save me  $67.60 over the course of one year.  _________________________
As usual this week, my daughter and I hauled off the garbage ourselves instead of paying someone to do it for us. 
I had to drive a little farther this week since the local trash collection does not accept things like microwaves, so I drove to town and deposited both of them at the main trash center. 
I tried to recycle them but the local recycling center does not accept microwave ovens. They did however take a metal fan that was no longer working. 
I also disposed of a metal stool that was broken. It's such a great feeling to get rid of things that are no longer useful.  _________________________
We packed water and snacks anytime we left the house this week as we are still continuing our no eating out rule, which includes drinks. 
I made sweet iced tea, lemonade, orange iced tea and koolaid to have for drinks, ready to go, in the refrigerator. I also kept several pitchers of cold water in the fridge. Anything to lessen the temptation of wanting to get drinks while we are out and about because they can easily wreck your budget.
We received several tomatoes from a friend that were on the verge of spoiling. Canning them right now is out of the question since my two largest burners do not work on my stove. So we decided to dehydrate them and turn them into dried tomato powder. I placed them into the jars I saved from some kalamata olives.  _________________________
My daughter has been invited to a friend's wedding on Saturday. We had been brainstorming on what she could bring as a gift when she stumbled upon a glass wedding picture frame while she was perusing the Dollar General penny sales. Perfect gift and only cost her one penny.

When my Dad left here almost two years ago now, he left multiple things here that needed to be removed. One of them was a walker, which I listed for sale on a local Facebook group weeks ago and it finally sold this week for $25.00.  I am so glad to be rid of it as it was taking up precious space.  _________________________
We are continuing to declutter the house in order to have things to sell at the flea market. We did not go today however, since my daughter had the wedding to attend. 
We will make up for this by attending a Wednesday show this coming week. I am loving how clean and uncluttered the house is becoming during this major decluttering project.  _________________________
