Saturday Free Yard Sale

On Saturday we went to one yard sale, which was hosted by Crossroads Community Church. They host this yard sale every summer and everything is free.

In the picture above you can see several of the hard goods I picked up such as a tea cup & saucer, a pillowcase kit, brand new Pioneer Women place mats, a paper towel holder, a Matilda Jane water bottle, a metal food processor, a pink rug, several spurtles, storage jar, and Swiffer dry wipes.

These were just a few of the things I picked up and I did get more things that didn’t make it into the picture. Things like a crossbody bag, more Keen shoes, fabric, basket, several pieces of jewelry and plenty of clothes. I just about filled my Hulken bag with clothing.

They had big ticket items too, but I didn’t look at those items as I was too busy looking at the fun stuff. They had a lot of furniture, bed clothes, pillows, and Christmas stuff, which I didn’t look at either as I was busy looking at things I enjoy.

The crowd was a big one as you can imagine when everything is free, but was not overwhelming. Items did get picked up quickly and by the time we left was very much picked over. I thanked several of the volunteers on my way out for hosting such a terrific event in our community where people could get things they needed and not have to pay anything.

It was a lot of fun, held indoors in the air conditioning, which was a plus. It was raining outside, so there weren't many yard sales otherwise. Bailey picked up several things for herself as well and had just as much fun as I did.

Yard Sale Friday & Saturday

Early Friday morning I woke up around four a.m. and couldn’t fall back to sleep, so I checked online for yard sales. To my surprise there was a church one not far from home starting at six a.m. I’m an early bird so I jumped out of bed and got my day started early, so I could be there when they opened.

Here are some treasures I found…

Like new Silpat mat (paid $1.00, sells for $19.67), like new Blender Bottle (paid $1 sells for $13.99), Pampered Chef ladle (I paid $1.00, sells for $16), an apple peeler (paid $1 sells for $22.99), and the Thirty One box for $1.00. Also included is the set of measuring spoons with a whole in the bottom to use as a funnel when filling spice jars for $1.00.

I also found one pair of Keen hiking shoes. I’ve been thinking for a while now that I would like a pair of boots now that I’m walking so much better and walking over the hilly terrain here. I saw a pair of boots in the yard sale ad, which is why I went, but those boots were too small.

And then I spotted these:

Now, I don’t normally buy shoes at yard sales because in my mind none of them will fit me. I’ve mentioned it before, but when I weighed more it seemed like all the clothes and shoes were too small for me, so I never really looked. Now that I’m smaller, I need to be looking!

Saturday morning I looked down at these shoes and thought they look big enough to fit me. So, I took one shoe off (unheard of for me at a yard sale 😂) and tried it on and it fit like a glove. Woo Hoo!

And check this out, they retail for $135.00. Score! An unbelievable deal. I bought them on Friday and wore them to Saturday yard sales and they are really good and supportive shoes

Recently I wrote that Bailey had won a Hulken Bag. Imagine my surprise when I pulled up to a yard sale on Saturday and saw this one. The lady wanted $40 for it, but I asked if she would take $30, and we settled on $35. This bag retails for $125.

Since Bailey has gotten her bag, we've used it to shop multiple consignment sales and it always comes in handy, so now we will both have one to use as we usually separate when we are at these types of sales.

I also picked up this shelf for $5.00 and hung it where there used to be a vintage telephone that belonged to my parents. We had it in our home in Illinois during the years we were growing up and my sister wanted it, so her husband came to get it last fall.

I knew this shelf would work in that spot. It is mounted above our beverage station and Bailey is going to put her drink mixes and other items in here.

That's it for yard sales this week. Were you able to go to any or did yours get rained out? If you did and found anything, we would love to hear about it in the comment section.

Yard Sale Saturday

Yard Sale Saturday

We had the best time at yard sales last weekend. Even if we don’t buy anything at one yard sale I’m getting in so many steps often hitting more than 10,000 steps by the end of the day, so it’s great exercise even when I don’t buy anything.

See this purse that retails for $139.00? Look what I picked up at a yard sale on Friday for $5.00. This is a Poppy & Peonies commuter backpack.

Can you believe that?! I only bought it because I liked it. I didn’t realize how valuable it was until I got home and Googled it. 😂

I also picked up an office chair ($5.00), Reebok aerobic step ($1.00), one dozen wide mouth canning jars ($5.00), and a lamp with pull chain ($10.00).

I bought the aerobic step to mimic a couple of exercises at home that they had me do in physical therapy. The price of a new one can be steep if bought new, but they are a dime a dozen on the second hand market and I knew if I waited I would find one inexpensively.

I pulled up to this yard sale and this step was on the curb away from the actual sale, which indicated to me it was on the way out. So, I asked the seller how much for the step and she asked me what I would offer. Thinking it was on its way out I offered $1.00 and she accepted. Score!

Here is a photo of the lamp with pull chain that I bought. I adore lamps with pull chains as they are easy to turn on in the middle of the night to light the room when I need to get up for any reason. I always look for pull chains on lamps whenever I see them while shopping. Most lamps don’t have a pull chain, so they are harder to find.

And look what I found when I got home…turns out this is a stained glass Tiffany lamp that sells for
$166.66.  Can you believe that? I had no idea it was an Atlanta Falcons lamp I just liked the pull chain. Now I know why it was $10.00. 😂

On Saturday we headed out again. This time we went back to a yard sale I went to on Friday. I had seen a similar bag to the one pictured above and wanted to see if it was still there and it was, so I gave them $5.00 for it. Turns out this one was a diaper bag from Petunia Pickle Bottom worth $199.00.

I thought it was another backpack, but was a diaper bag instead, so I’m letting Bailey sell it in her business.

The first yard sale we went to on Saturday had all their clothes for $1.00 each, so we picked up three Carhartt jackets for that price, which was a steal! Carhartt is very popular here and Bailey will be selling these in her shops.

For myself I found a handheld cordless drill for $5.00, and a new pair of Cato pants in animal print for $1.00. Now I probably won’t wear these out of the house, but will wear them around the house.

How about you? Have you been to any yard sales recently? We would love to read about any treasures you've found lately.

Thank you for dropping by my frugal blog, you are always welcome here.

Yard Sale Saturday

We had another great day going to yard sales today. The weather was nice and cool at 67 degrees and it was a little overcast, so perfect weather.  I walked almost one mile going to the sales. I got out at each and every one too. In years past I would stay in the car usually and let Bailey go shop. Today I brought my cane just in case I needed it, and felt no pain in my knees.

On a side note, we went to a church yard sale and I saw one of the teachers I used to sub for and she gave me a big hug. It was so great to see her.

Here is what I bought today...

This is a Lymphatic Drainage Massage Roller Stick, which sells for $19.75 on Amazon, but I bought for $1.00 today. I have been wanting one of these to help with scar tissue from my knees and my lymphedema, so I was tickled to find one.

This is a URBNFit Exercise Ball, brand new in the box, which sells for $29.99 on Amazon. I paid $5.00 for it today. I've been wanting one of these to strengthen my core and help me with my balance. I am also looking for a two pound ankle weight to simulate an exercise she had me do this week. I know I will find one eventually as I see them regularly.

Here is a group photo of other items I picked up today.

The books were 50 cents and went right into the McKay Used Books box to be traded as they will give us more money for them and we in turn will trade them for books that we want to read, a win-win trade.

A clock for the kitchen since mine fell down this winter and broke, only $2.00.

Twelve pint canning jars marked at $6.00, but I asked her if she would take $5.00 and she did. So, 42 cents per jar.

Four drinking glasses for when we have company as we don't have any nice glasses for guests. All of our cups are specialty cups for us to use. I got four of them for 50 cents each.

Five pairs of pants in my new to me size, which I'll wash and try on and give to Bailey to sell if I don't like the way they fit. They were all $2.00 a pair.

A drain hair catcher for the bathtub was 50 cents. We desperately needed this as I have to unscrew the drain every month and clean it out, so I hope this helps with that issue.

Two crossbody bag purses, which I am loving these days because they help keep my hands free to use either my walker or cane. One was $2.00 and the other one was $3.00.

The lady who I bought the drinking glasses from gave me this LOVE stamp bag for free to carry my glasses in, which I thought was very nice of her.

So, these are all the things I bought today. Some were needed and some I wanted, but provided me and Bailey with a couple of hours of entertainment and fun on this beautiful Saturday.

I don't list the items Bailey buys as she is buying for herself and her business.

How about you? Did you get to any yard sales today? Did you find any treasures? If so, I would love to hear all about it.

Yard Sales in 2020

Bailey originally shared this on her Instagram account and I thought it was really good and wanted to share it here. If you would like to follow her Instagram account, you can do so by clicking here

Written by Bailey

My yard sale bag waited in my office all year to go on adventures again, but quarantine happened. 😒⁣

I’m doing some office rearranging and I still thought I would share what I keep in my yard sale bag. Hopefully by next summer all of this will be long behind us. 🤞🏻⁣

𝘐𝘒𝘌𝘈 𝘉𝘢𝘨𝘴: These are great to have on hand for large rummage sales where it’s not as easy to make a pile for yourself. Also, I keep two in the trunk to throw everything in as I go. ⁣

𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬: I write down how much I spend as I go. This makes bookkeeping super easy when I get home.⁣

𝘍𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘺 𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘬: I know, I know, but it’s super convenient! I can count out cash with one hand and hold a bunch of stuff in the other. It also has a pocket for pepper spray and hand sanitizer. 👍🏻⁣

Hat & Sunscreen: ☀️ ⁣

I also keep water, wipes, snack, etc. when yard sale season is active. ⁣

I’m really sad this isn’t happening this year, but I know it’s for the best. Stay home if you can. This won’t last forever. ❤️

Frugal Friday ~ September 27, 2019

If you know how to spend less than you get, you have the key to success.
Benjamin Franklin

We made it to Friday! This week I subbed two days and brought lunch and drinks both days.

One day last week we went to a yard sale where the lady was just trying to get rid of everything and was offering up free office supplies. Bailey got several things and picked up this free bag of pencils for me.

Thus week I sold one item on eBay.

And I also won a Tetley Tea mason jar glass cup in a giveaway.

The week went by quickly and we will be pet sitting this weekend. I hope you all have a great one!
