Frugal Friday ~ July 12, 2019

This week I was able to buy a new pair of Chacos for $15.00. The retail price on these is anywhere from $70 and up with some costing over $100. The lady running the yard sale had worn them one time and didn't like them, so I was able to buy them for a great price.

Chacos are very popular around here due to white water rafting and these being shoes that are great to wear in the river. They will replace a pair of flip flops that I've had for about ten years and are simply worn out.

On Saturday we ran multiple errands.

First stop was at Lowe's where we picked up a roll of plastic sheeting to cover a window along with some tacks, and foam insulation to fill in an area where air is leaking in and out of the house.

This work has already reduced the temperature in the house by about 6 to 8 degrees, so a win-win situation.

Next stop was the Flowers Bakery Outlet where we picked up two loaves of bread @ 79¢ each.

Then onto CVS where we picked up an RX along with two free bottles of water.

Next was the Dollar Tree where my daughter picked up several items. She also picked up some of the LA's Awesome Stuff because she had read so many great reviews on it.

Next stop was Food City. All I needed to complete my menus this week was a pie crust, so we stopped in here for that. We also found three bags of sugar in the marked down section.

Dollar General - They sell Campbell's cream of Potato soup in the 13 ounce can for $1.50. The grocery store sells the 10 ounce can for an even higher price, so if I'm using this I like to buy it at the Dollar General.

Sonic & MCD's - picked up two free drinks and received two more receipts to get two more free drinks.

On Thursday my daughter stopped in at Kroger and found the mother lode of meat markdowns.

This week I used the last package of chicken and the last package of ground beef I had in our freezer, so this meat mark down find came at the right time and I consider it a blessing. We are definitely stocked up on meat for a long time to come.

She also found marked down yogurt, milk, almond milk, sugar, and hamburger buns. She hit the store at the right time and was able to cash in on all these deals.

How was your week? We'd love to read all about it in the comment section.

Frugal Friday 4-12-2019

This week I earned another $5.00 from Microsoft Rewards bringing my Amazon gift card balance to $15.

This week I had four days where I did not spend any money. #nospenddays

This week I was scheduled to work two days, but ended up working four days. I'm grateful as there are only around 30 or so days of school left before summer vacation starts.

I sold a book on eBay this week for $2.50 that I bought at a yard sale for 15 cents. Of course, I read it first and wrote down any recipes I wanted to try. :)

On Tuesday I filled up my car and used my Exxon rewards card to earn points. Currently I have $6 worth of points on there and I'm saving those up to use one day when I want a free tank of gas.

Today is laundry day and I already have the first of two loads washing. One way I save on laundry is having enough clothes to wear for two weeks. That way I only have to wash clothes every two weeks instead of every week and ensures I'm washing only full loads. Not using the washer every week definitely saves on the electric bill.

Hardees will be offering one free sausage biscuit to any customer who says while ordering, "Made from Scratch", April 15, 2019 from 7 to 10 a.m. I'm not scheduled to work that day, but if I am I'll be sure to stop in to get a free biscuit.

Speaking of breakfast food, one of the students gave me a free orange juice the other day at school. We also picked up two free water bottles at CVS this morning while we were picking up a prescription.

We've been out and about this morning going to yard sales until the rain started. No worries, we will be heading back out tomorrow and then I'll write up a post about it soon.

How was your week?

Frugal Friday ~ July 6, 2018

My daughter and I downloaded the Dairy Queen app on our phones and earned a free blizzard reward. We used it during the hottest part of the day on Yard Sale Saturday.

The receipt they gave us even had a free Dilly bar for filling out the survey.

We picked up two free bottles of water while picking up an RX for my daughter.

I picked up packages of oranges, apples, and bananas for 99¢ on the reduced produce rack at Food City last week while I was in there picking up an RX for me. I always check the reduced racks when I go there.

I received a free sample of Garnier Whole Blends shampoo and conditioner in a free magazine this week.

On Monday of this week I received my first call to sub in August! I'll be glad to start earning money from school once again, although this year will be different for me.

This summer I was diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis, so I will be declining some jobs that require me to walk more than I feel capable of doing.

This week we stayed home Sunday through Wednesday and spent no money. Thursday we went thrift shopping for their 99¢ sale.

Other frugal activities this week include:

- Sold three items on Ebay for a total of $33.00/$25.54 after fees.
- Took Navy showers all week.
- We scheduled pickups with the post office this week rather than drive to the post office, which saved us gas money.
Made sure to check out the contents of my refrigerator each morning to ensure nothing goes to waste. We either eat the items for breakfast or lunch or I include them in our dinner plans.
- Washed a one gallon Ziplock bag to reuse.
- I did not buy any groceries this week and used what we had on hand instead.
- Cooked all meals at home this week.
- Used my crockpot to cook some to keep the heat out of the house and the a/c from working so hard during the heatwave.
- I perused the grocery store ads online this week and noted Food City is having a $5 sale on Friday. They have 32 ounce bags of cheese for $5, and 10 Powerades for $5 or 50¢ each.
- We signed up for the new Verizon reward program about a month or so ago. Today we earned a free $5 Starbucks reward card. I let my daughter have it as she likes Starbucks.

That's all the news for Frugal Friday around here. How was your week?

Bi-Lo ~ Free Minute Maide Coolers from My Coke Rewards

My trip to Bi-Lo yesterday also included picking up a box of Minute Maid Coolers. This was a coupon for a free box that I "purchased" from My Coke Rewards for 40 points. A nice freebie for us as we rarely ever buy juice boxes.

Also, they had the Southern Home Cheddar Cheese on sale. 24 ounces for $4.99, which works out to $1.66 for an 8 ounce block, which is definitely our new stock up price. I bought three blocks, which should last me a while. :)

Check Your Sonic Receipts

Sonic Drive-In is once again offering Free Route 44 drinks on the bottom of their receipts. Some days, especially if I've run out of water or not had time to bring any with me, I go by Sonic and can get a Route 44 filled with ice water for 26 cents, which I think is a great deal when I am out and about and away from home and can't make my own ice water, which in my line of work can happen from time to time. The offer will be printed on the bottom of your receipt. All you have to do is go to the Sonic website, enter your ID# off the receipt and fill out the survey. When you are done you will be given a verification code to write on your receipt, which you can then return to Sonic for a free drink. Sonic even has a Facebook page for fans on their Route 44 drinks.
