First Frugal Friday of July 2026 on Saturday

Welcome to Frugal Friday

Each Friday here at Frugal Workshop, I love sharing the frugal wins, quiet savings, and simple strategies that helped us stretch our budget over the past seven days. It’s a gentle look back at the small things that make a big difference.

Quote of the Week

“A nation of people who can grow their own food, build their own shelter, and stand on their own ground is a nation that's expensive and difficult to oppress. […] The more of your own sustenance you can pull out of your own ground, the less of your life belongs to someone else's permission.” ~ School of Traditional Skills

On July 4, 1776 the United States of America declared independence from Great Britain. Many people here will pause to celebrate this 250th anniversary of our nation. Bailey and I have plans to attend a huge celebration tonight with friends. Happy Birthday America!

My Frugal Week

The beginning of the week here was quiet and we mostly stayed indoors out of the summer heat wave until Thursday when we traveled to Knoxville for inventory at several thrift stores for Bailey’s shops.

On Friday we dropped our cat Ginger off at the veterinarian’s office to be groomed, which was money well spent. After dropping him off we ran various errands stopping at Sam’s Club for gas ($3.05 per gallon), the post office and several thrift stores to pass the time until Ginger could be picked up and then we all went home.

My Reading Nook ~ What I've been Reading This Week

While thrifting this week while I picked up several books to add to my summer reading collection.

I've been reading Food Junkies by Dr. Vera Tarman this week. I'm hoping to get it finished soon, so I can start another one for the summer reading program. Right now I'm about 75% through the book. Dr. Tarman also has several interviews on YouTube if you’re interested in those.

How was your week? The last two days have been a whirlwind of activity here, which is why this blog post is later than usual. There is a lot going on with the house right now, which I won’t get into today. I hope you’re doing well and if you have plans to celebrate today that you’ll be safe and enjoy the freedoms we hold so dear.

Thank you for dropping by my frugal blog, you are always welcome here.

We would love to hear all about your week in the comment section.

  1. Happy 4th of July, Belinda and Bailey! I love the quote of the week! It's been dangerously hot here for the past few days. It's supposed to be 102 degrees today, but we might get some storms this afternoon. We need the rain. I'm glad to know that you are okay, I was a little concerned when the blog post wasn't up. Have a safe 4th!

    1. Awww…you are so sweet, Bobbie. Thank you. Getting Ginger to the vet took up my morning and most of the day yesterday. I’ll be posting before and after pictures of him next week. I think he feels so much better and definitely looks better. I hope you have a happy, fun, and safe 4th and try to stay cool. This heat wave is just awful.

  2. Dear Belinda, how wonderful that you got Ginger groomed! I am sure he really appreciates it! And yes, it is definitely money well spent. Great to do this, particularly in the heat we have been experiencing! Ticks, unfortunately, are rampant, as well as fleas, but thankfully lessened or not even present if the cat is a strictly indoor pet and if the cat is not in contact with other animals that may have them. Thank goodness!
Happy 4th to you and Bailey, dear friend! I hope you are having a lovely weekend, you both definitely deserve it! :)
Here in Montreal the weather is a BIT more comfortable today...just a bit. Thankfully it is partly cloudy with a light breeze, so we are getting a bit of a relief from the intense heat and humidity from the strong sun. However, we still need the air conditioner, but I feel a little less tired with a bit more energy, so I am very grateful for this.
I am very happy to see your post, Belinda. It didn't appear in my news reader yesterday, but I can see that it is because you hadn't yet published, so it's all good! I would have come to check, though, even if I had not seen it now in my news reader.
Take good care of yourself, and thank you so much for being there, and for all you share!

    1. You are always so sweet, Linda. Thank you. Ginger is a very content boy today! I’m glad the weather is more comfortable, I know these hot days can be so miserable. We had a lot going on yesterday and I didn’t find the time to post until today, but we’re all good here and hope you are too and stay cool in this hot weather.

  3. Love the quote! Hope you had a wonderful Independence day celebration! I bet Ginger feels so much better; the heat is hard on long haired kitties. Hope everything works out ok with your house. I'm sure it is stressful. Sending hugs.

  4. I have been doing a great deal of research for government help re my brother. I think I have pretty much finished that and emailed/messaged all to the other brother. I now hope to get back to regular living, saving and moving towards simplicity.

    God bless.

  5. Oh my, the heat has been terrible! Thankfully we've had a cool down and even though it's still warm, we are no longer under heat advisories. I hope you're getting some relief also.
