Frugal Friday

Welcome to Friday! We've had cold temperatures here this week, but nothing like what they are experiencing in Texas. My heart goes out to all of them.

My Frugal Week

On Wednesday we had a grocery pickup order from Walmart delivered. We've been in the midden of wintery weather and transportation has been delayed, so some groceries didn't make it to the stores. For example, they were out of eggs, so I will have to baby the nine or so I have left.

I had created a menu for the next two weeks, but was unable to get everything on my list, so some meals I won't be able to make. No worries though as my pantry will be utilized for this.

Earning Money

I sold one item on eBay this week, which I was able to get at no cost.

The IRS accepted my tax return on Friday, February 12th, 2021.

$10 Microsoft Reward credit was redeemed today for an Amazon gift card.

Food Shortages

I'm not sure if any of my readers have noticed a shortage in brussel sprouts, but there is a shortage. Brussels sprouts production in North America is undergoing the transition northward, which is fueling a shortage of brussel sprouts in the market. I enjoy eating baby brussel sprouts and they have been harder to locate here.

Bailey was teasing me over this issue and said only I would notice a brussel sprout shortage while most other people are looking for toilet paper. LOL

  1. Your menu sounds great! I also love brussel sprouts, but haven't noticed a shortage. Maybe I should pick some up. ;)

    1. Hopefully the shortage will be short lived. They said in a month or so they would be bac to normal. I hope so, they are one of my favorite vegetables.

    1. My grandmother loved lima beans, I will eat them if necessary, but they are not a favorite bean of mine. I hope you can find some soon.

  3. No eggs and a Brussels Sprouts shortage?! I must have both! Speaking of eggs, my husband went to the store this week to stock us up on the heavy stuff - cases of water, boxes of pet food and kitty litter. I told him to grab 2 packs of eggs while he was there. The bag with the eggs slid off the top of the water cases and then my husband proceeded to run them over with the cart. Why he would have put them up there to begin with is beyond me. My week has definitely been a crazy one and still going, but I can't complain after seeing everything going on in Texas.

    1. Oh my gosh, the eggs and your dh. He probably felt so bad. Yes, my heart goes out to the people in Texan. They have had a nightmare of a week.

    1. I will gladly take your brussel sprouts, Sam. I love them. The fail was a peanut sauce we bought at Target, my homemade version is not spicy and therefore better. Sorry for the confusion.

  6. The last brussels sprouts I bought frozen were awful, tough, hard and not tasty at all. I'm glad that was not my first time eating them.

  7. What a storm we had..I hope you are able to find eggs and some good Brussel sprouts soon.
Here and there I'm surprised at what is missing. Some of the most normal type things that you think should be there and then they are not in stock.

    1. Glad you all made it thru the storm, Vickie. We were able to find some egg at Aldi and are grateful for that. Only 89 cents per dozen.

  9. We had an ice storm last week too, and we lost power for 30 hours. Thankfully we have a propane fireplace and a small generator, so were able to keep warm and the freezer cold. It ran the well too, so we were able to flush the potty. I am so sorry for all those folks who are struggling, so sad. Unfortunately I think we are all going to have to learn to deal with extreme weather conditions as they seem to be happening more and more frequently.
Sounds like you had a good week. I had a kroger pickup today, and I was able to get eggs and frozen brussel sprouts. I haven't been able to get canned cat food at either walmart or kroger for a couple of weeks. Have you heard of canned cat food shortages? I'll have to start opening cans of tuna for them in a week or so. ;)

    1. Kathy, I have not heard of a cat food shortage, but I will keep my ears open to that.

I'm so glad you've had your power restored. Thirty hours is a long time to go without it. I'm glad you were able to flush your toilets and keep warm. Those are so important.

I'm afraid we are going to have more extrema weather like this too. I think we will all have to do more prepping for such occasions. unfortunately.

I'm so glad you are all safe and sound now.
