Finding Lower Prices

Today, as always, I continue to look for lower prices on products we use in our household.

I’ve been reading for quite some time now about people using bubble bath in their liquid soap dispensers because it was cheaper than using hand soap. I’ve looked for inexpensive bubble bath since that time, but have not had any success.

Today I stumbled across this in the detergent aisle:

The first is a bottle of Value Time dish washing detergent and if you look closely, you will see it also says hand soap.

These were priced at 99¢ each for 25 ounces. These will be less expensive for me than buying the large bottles of Equate (56 ounces) hand soap for $3.75 and refilling our pump dispensers. And definitely cheaper than the 7.5 ounce bottles of hand soap, which sell for around $1.50.

So, if you have been unable to find bubble bath for your soap dispensers, look in the dish washing detergent aisle and see what you can find.

Next up, I was able to find these 8 ounce bottles of T-gel shampoo for $1.00 each.

These are much cheaper than Wal-Mart’s Equate brand of T-Gel shampoo, which sells for $3.44 for the 8 ounce bottle, and Neutrogena's T-Gel shampoo, which sells for over $7.00 a bottle. I was really tickled to find this as I had no idea I could find T-Gel shampoo this inexpensively.

Our efforts to continue to reduce our household expenses has paid off today and will continue as we constantly strive to reduce our expenses and live the frugal life.

Bonus Buy Shampoo

Another way that I save money when I'm shopping is by looking for items marked with the BONUS sign. These shampoo bottles have a small yellow oval on the top of the bottle that states, BONUS 33% More, which means you will get 30 ounces of shampoo for the regular price of $1.46 instead of the regular size bottle which has 22.5 ounces.

Now this is an increase in price from when I bought it a year ago and blogged about it here. The 22.5 ounce bottle cost $1.38 in July of 2011. The other day when I was shopping I took my usual route through the store and went by the shampoo aisle to see if there were any bonus bottles. To my surprise there were several bottles, and I picked up eight of them.

The BONUS bottles give me more shampoo for the same amount of money, which is a great bargain. Let's do the math:

8 bottles x 30 ounces = 240 ounces

8 bottles x 22.5 ounces  = 180 ounces

A difference of 60 ounces, which is like getting almost three bottles for free, which is a savings of over $4.00!

This is just another example of how we save money at the Frugal Workshop. Next time you are in the store check and see if they have any BONUS bottles of shampoo.  :)

Suave Shampoo

One of the ways that I save money when I shop is by looking for items marked with the BONUS sign. For example, the other day I noticed we were running low on shampoo, and since there have not been any good sales here lately, I decided to buy my old standby: the 22.5 ounce bottle of Suave at Walmart for $1.38. When I went to buy the shampoo I noticed right away that some of the bottles were 33% more BONUS bottles, which meant I was getting 30 ounces of shampoo for the regular price of $1.38. This was only on a selected variety of the shampoo, which doesn't matter to me, so I bought 10 bottles, which is enough to last us for a long while, and still left some of the shelf for the next person.  The BONUS bottles give me more shampoo for the same amount of money, which is a great bargain and in my case it's like getting three bottles for free.

Free Shampoo

Here is a canister of Suave Professional dry shampoo, which I received free with a free coupon I received in the mail from Suave's Facebook page. The shampoo was $2.74, and my daughter had been asking for some dry shampoo to use during the week when she didn't want to wash her hair. Perfect timing!
