First Frugal Friday of September 2022

Welcome to Friday!

Quote of the Week

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain

My Frugal Week

This past weekend/week was the drop off for the consignment sale in Chattanooga, which starts today.  We made a final push to get as much stuff out of the house as possible to sell. It is unreal how much stuff people can accumulate in a lifetime, and this was just Mom’s stuff.

I earned $10 in PayPal money this week from MobileXpressions.

September 1st my new health insurance kicked in and includes a free membership to the YMCA. I’m very excited about that.

We used a flea comb on some of the cats outside as the flea treatment we give them doesn’t keep them flea free for the entire month. It’s hard to keep them flea free since they live outdoors. When we find a flea while combing them we dunk the comb in a bowl of Dawn soapy water and it kills the flea instantly. This is an inexpensive way to get rid of the fleas.

The quote came in for the driveway this week. $1,000 if we want to fix some of the problem areas or $2500 to install a tile at the top of the driveway and fix the problem areas with a more permanent gravel solution. We chose the later and work will begin next week.

Joy of the Week

I’ve been looking forward to the consignment sale all week.

Avoiding Spending

We definitely stayed home this week and didn’t spend any money, so that is a good thing.

Saving Money In My Frugal Kitchen

We are still in use it up mode here, using up all our leftovers and not wasting food. It is time to get some groceries though, so I’ll be working on that this weekend and will report back next week.

Meals This Week

Friday:  Blackened Chicken, Steamed Green Beans, Steamed Carrots.

Saturday:  Tacos with Grilled Chicken, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions and Cheese.

  2. Oh man, it's unreal how many little things that you have that add up to a pile of stuff. I just cleaned out our dining room and bedroom drawers. It was a lot. 5 or 6 bags went to the thrift store. Your menu always sounds delicious. Blackened chicken yum!

  3. Hope you do well with your consignment sale items. It is amazing how much stuff accumulates in our homes. I need to go through each room and get rid of several items, but I am just no inspired at the moment. I have to do better than I am doing.
    Enjoy the Y membership.

    1. Thank you, Anne. It was two full car loads we took to the consignment sale and even then I have found more items to sell. It never ends, I tell ya. 😂

  4. Hi it’s little Penpen. I’m having trouble signing into a few blogs these days. I’m glad you are getting the driveway work done. That’ll be money well spent. We had ours redone a couple months ago and I smile every time I drive on it. 😁

    1. Signing into the blogs can be so frustrating at times. I hope you can get it worked out. Yes, I’m very happy about the driveway getting fixed. The post office has refused to come up to the house because of it, so hopefully that will fix that problem as well.

    2. I am on my laptop and commenting with no problem. Must be my antiquated phone that hasn't been updated in forever. lol

    4. I have the same problem. I cannot comment when using my iPad. There I appear as an anonymous poster. But I can, on the laptop. Strange!

  6. Hopefully, you will sell lots at the consignment sale. I would end up with fleas on me if I combed a cat with fleas.

  7. Good luck with the sale! Hope you make a good profit!
Hope they are able to fix the driveway. Everything is so expensive these days.
That's great about the Y membership. They usually have lots of fun activities and classes. I'm old enough to remember the Village people song too.
Hope you have a great Labor day weekend.
