Washer Update

The service repair man came today to install the new control panel inside our washing machine.

We bought the machine at Lowe's on 8-29-17 for $284.06.

The control panel he put it today cost $294 plus $100 labor plus tax for installation.

He said most people never repair these washers because they can buy a new one for cheaper.

Ours was under warranty, so we paid $0 for this repair. I have to say that I'm glad it did this before 8-29-18. Like Sluggy said on my post last week. LOL

I was glad to get it fixed as quickly as we did as laundry was not getting done. We've washed, dried, folded, and put away three loads so far today with the last load in the washer now.

I'm so glad to be back in business with our washer.

  1. $0 for the repair is a great price. So glad for you that this all happened under warranty. A similar thing happened to my computer earlier this year; an update killed the hard drive, but fortunately, it was under warranty and they replaced basically all of the insides. Phew! :)

    1. Oh, that's great that they replaced the insides of your computer, Stephanie. I'm glad yours was under warranty too.

  2. Glad you caught that under warranty.
The reason most people would replace instead of fix is BECAUSE THE COMPANY makes it cost too much to repair.
This is such a throw away society.

    1. It certainly is, Cheryl. It's so sad. It's that way with computers, appliances, almost anything we use these days.

  3. I typed a comment and it suddenly disappeared. 😐
My first laptop had to be repaired just a couple of days before it's warranty expired. I think things shouldn't break when they are not even a year old, but I'm glad you got it done under warranty.

    1. Thank you, Nil. I think their "planned obsolescence" didn't work this time. They'll have to go back to the drawing board. LOL

  4. Count your blessings, Belinda.

One year after we closed for our newly constructed house, our contractor's warranty was fulfilled. The following day, 9 leaks from rain appeared in the family room ceiling. DH contacted the contractor to report the problem. The contractor's roof repair lasted 7 years. We then installed a new roof that is to last 30 years. Oops, had the roof checked 3 years ago when 2 separate contractors estimated the roof would last 3 to 4 years. We have saved more than enough for a roof replacement, knowing the future.

Then 11 years ago, we bought a $1700 plus tax fridge/freezer. Its repair would have been $665 if it had not gone kaput within warranty time. A washer and 2 dishwashers have done the same but were not in warranty.

    Anyone with a solution?

    1. It's so frustrating, Anna. It's good to keep track of all your warranties, owner's manuals, and receipts to have them fix these it it's on their watch still. My Mom couldn't find a dryer receipt when it was time to fix hers a few years ago an she ended up buying a new one.

    1. It certainly does. Our first washer in this house lasted almost 30 years. They don't build them like that anymore though.
