Frugal Friday on Monday

It's been a busy weekend here and I didn't get to post this on Friday. So, our frugal week consisted of things like this...
- We are using up what we have on hand here. I had an apple with breakfast one day this week and rather than open the brand new jar of peanut butter I just bought, I used the powdered peanut butter I had on hand.
- We had a big storm come through here last week and the back porch needed to be cleaned up as a result. I even ended up throwing some things away they were damaged.

- I sold our freezer on the back porch this week for $40. The man who bought it was glad to have it. I had quit using it last year as I was tired of losing food in it due to the breaker tripping.

- Paid all July bills this week and after paying bills, I had a little bit left over that went right into savings.

- I've successfully tracked all of my expenses this month. I keep an Excel spreadsheet for this purpose.

- Did some mending on four items we bought for reselling, so we could list them for sale. Mostly sewing on buttons where one had fallen off.

- Took time out to fill out from Consumer Opinion Institute survey and earned $5 cash.

- I watched several episodes of "Can't Pay? We'll Take It Away" for free on YouTube. The show definitely motivates people to pay off debt.

- I'm pretty sure our main air conditioning window unit is on the way out. It has been freezing up and we've had to turn it off to thaw out. It was 92° in the house on Friday, but we are going to try and make do with it for now. We have the dehumidifier running, which helps reduce humidity.

- We had plenty of popsicles on hand this week to keep cool while the a/c is on the fritz.

-  I mended a bra strap for my dd this week. The strap was shredded, but the bra was still very usable. I cut away some shreds and replaced it with a bit of elastic. I stitched the elastic down in three parallel lines.  It worked and my daughter is happy to have a favorite bra back in service.

- We continue to resell and earn money by posting and cross posting on various selling apps like Mercari and Poshmark.

I shared this on Instagram on Thursday. If you went to Wendy's and said, "Winner, Winner, Chicken Tender," they would give you a free 2 piece chicken tenders. We both did it and had fun with the cashier.

I hope all of you are doing well.  :)

  1. YAY freezer gone!!!!! Oh no on the AC. Hopefully it will get you through this summer. 92* is hot for inside. Stay safe.

    1. LOL, on the mending bras, Cheryl. It's cheaper than buying a new one for sure. :) I hope you have a great week too.

  2. Mending one of my bras is on my list to do as well! It's the side part that has shredded; I think I'm going to kind of stitch a piece of similar colored t-shirt in that area (as the bra is made up of t-shirt like material). A good bra is SO hard to find, and I absolutely love this one, so I will mend that thing until it looks like a quilt, haha! :)

Best wishes on making do without the AC. I lived in Tennessee for five years and summers can be brutal! Hang in there!!!

    1. Thank you, Stephanie. Summers can be brutal here. I'm ready for winter. LOL

Your plan for your bra to insert t-shirt material sounds like a good one. I agree, a good bra can be hard to find and they can be expensive, so mending them is a good thing. I've had a few that looked rough at the end. haha

  3. This weekend I also did some mending. Like you it was mainly sewing buttons. I have a jar full of buttons collected from old clothes, so I didn't have to buy new ones. 😊

  4. You are a Winner-Winner, Belinda. Cheering you on. $40 for a freezer and out of your way is good deal. Mend bras here, too. Our Tennessee summers are always Hot. Using fans?

***After learning Donna Freedman and I graduated from same high school, I Googled the high school. Shocking to learn it is now a low-rated school. My 1959 Class does itself proud attempting to keep in touch. One from my homeroom died last week, and the word was passed around. For years, there were monthly dinners at a chosen restaurant and now 10-20 gather for weekly or monthly breakfast weekly. Discussion going around about 2019 for 60th reunion.

    1. Definitely using fans. It's down to 81 right now, which is much better than it was Friday.

Oh, I'm sorry one of your classmates passed away last week.

It's nice that they still get together. 60 years is a long time, definitely a milestone worthy of a celebration!

  6. I am so sorry your air conditioner is going out. I am next door to you in Missouri. My heart goes out to you. I know what you are going through.

Next month WalMart practically gives away air conditioners to make room for all the Winter items. You can score one for $20-$50 if that is in your budget range. I know our area doesn't get Fall, we get Indian Summer. I hate to think you are going to have to go through a heat wave till Novemeber. :( Keep peeking at their online site for when the prices drop. I got a space heater a couple of years ago that was $100 for $5.

  7. Thank you, Safyne. The heat is so unbearable in the south during summertime. I will definitely keep an eye on he Walmart a/cs. Ours is working now, but I don't know for how long.
