I mentioned last week that I was reading more due to recuperating from surgery. Normally I feel guilty reading for pleasure because I think about all the other things I could be doing instead. But I know that isn’t a healthy way to look at reading.
Reading is such a good activity and slows down memory decline in older age. It also helps with personal growth, stress management, and building vocabulary. Also, when we read a book instead of watching tv or scrolling on social media, our sleep improves.

We do a lot of batch cooking. My goal is to not make a complete dinner from scratch ever on a weekday. We do pretty well with this, and typically have leftovers or occasionally do something very simple like heating up meatballs from the freezer & making pasta. I'm too tired after work to make a proper dinner, so this works for us. - Hawaii Planner
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good plan.
DeleteSounds like you are off to a great start with Miserly March! Yay for paying property taxes without having to use savings. I'm sure you will do great the rest of the month too. So glad you were able to have the surgery drains removed. I'm sure that is a relief, but don't overdo things. Glad you are enjoying reading and relaxing a little. I enjoyed the Netflix series, All the Light we cannot see, but I haven't read the book.
ReplyDeleteI love cooking once and being able to make other meals, and I like your ideas for chili. If there is any chili leftover here, I add it to nachos too. I bought some cheese on sale at Kroger this week too, love me some cheesy goodness. Food Lion has whole chickens on sale for .99/lb, so I think I will pick up a few. I can't quite make it stretch as far as a rubber chicken, but we can get 3 meals out of one. :D
Hope you have a great weekend.
I need to go to Food Lion and get some of those chickens as that is a great price.
DeleteSo glad you got the drains out.
ReplyDeleteI love to cook and use the meal in many ways. Chili is a great one to make a bunch of meals from - in different forms.
Got to love cheese - I always have a nice supply on hand.
We love cheese too!
DeleteDear Belinda, thank you so much for sharing your great ideas, I learn a lot from your posts, dear friend 🧡
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda.
DeleteHappy you are on the move again after surgery.
ReplyDeleteI try to do what you do with meals, just because it makes nightly cooking a little easier. I just call it carrying forward. At this stage of my life I am all about doing whatever makes my life easier.
I'm with you on the easier part, Anne.
DeleteAll The Light We Cannot See is one of my favorite reads. Glad you enjoyed it. You are always so frugal and I love the Miserly March title.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I liked Miserly March when I saw that too.
DeleteHi Belinda,
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you're feeling so much better and can start doing everyday things again. Wishing you a continued speedy recovery!
I also cook for several meals at once. It saves time and money. I get 12 portions of food from one chicken that way.
I had to convert your price at the gas station to euros per liter and was astonished. Your price is €0.61 per liter. 😮 Here, diesel costs the equivalent of $9.76 per gallon and the cheaper gasoline $8.97 per gallon.
Yes, Germany has to import oil...
Best regards, Sibylle
Thank you, Sibylle. Wow on the price of gas there! You must have a lot of tips on how to combine errands and save your gasoline as much as possible. 12 portions of food from one chicken is excellent. That is why I enjoy reading your blog. You have some of the best content on how to be creative.
