Frugal Friday

Welcome to Friday!

Quote of the Week

Sometimes we can spend years searching for something that we had all along just because it didn't come in the package we expected.         Thelma Harper

My Frugal Week

We had a lot of rain from Tropical Storm Fred on Tuesday.

We picked mint from our mint plant and have it drying on the counter.

We’ve been grocery shopping this week...

Kroger $41.67
Kroger $138.69
Ingles $48.69
Total: $229.05

On Saturday we went grocery shopping at Ingles and Kroger's. We went to get stocked back up on meat. We didn’t find any beef on markdown, but did find pork, chicken, and Italian Sausage all on mark down. We were able to get over thirty packages of meat, some of them marked down to under $2.00 each.

The reason we have two Kroger orders is because we couldn’t get the sale on cheese online. So, we went into the store and bought that along with some other items.

We bought a gallon of marked down milk for 97 cents, which we wouldn’t have found if we hadn’t gone inside the store for the cheese.

Bailey picked these tomatoes hoping for them to ripen in the house. Some animal has been eating the tomatoes and we are not getting any of the beefsteak ones she planted. Hoping this will help.

Earning Money

Rakuten sent me $5.23 in cash back this week. I also made one sale on eBay and one sale on Etsy (thank you, Kathy) this week.

Ford Marsh sent me an email survey for a $10 gift card, the survey was short and sweet. My $10 Amazon card came on Wednesday.

Saving Money in my Frugal Kitchen

I needed taco sauce this week for a new recipe, but also knew I had enough Taco Bell sauces to make up a jar of my own without having to buy a jar. So, I cut open two packages at a time and placed them in this 12 ounce jar, which filled the jar and was more than enough for the recipe and I still had taco sauce packets left.

Saving on Entertainment

This week I we watched Uncle Frank on Amazon Prime.  It was an excellent film.
From Rotten Tomatoes:  In 1973, teenaged Beth Bledsoe (Sophia Lillis) leaves her rural Southern hometown to study at New York University where her beloved Uncle Frank (Paul Bettany) is a revered literature professor. She soon discovers that Frank is gay, and living with his longtime partner Walid “Wally” Nadeem (Peter Macdissi) -- an arrangement that he has kept secret for years. After the sudden death of Frank's father -- Beth’s grandfather -- Frank is forced to reluctantly return home for the funeral with Beth in tow, and to finally face a long-buried trauma that he has spent his entire adult life running away from.

  1. Those are great deals on the meat & milk Belinda! I'm a little jealous ...lol

Good idea on the taco sauce. I love Taco Bell sauce & always save mine too. I've never thought to use it in a recipe. Thanks for the idea.

I've been doing the same with tomatoes. Ours have been ripening fast indoors. I keep mine on the windowsill where there's sun almost half the day. Hope you & Bailey have a wonderful weekend.

  2. We've been ripening the majority of our tomatoes inside, thanks to the squirrels & the crows.

Nice work on your frugal wins. It was a really quiet sales week on eBay, but I haven't been listing much. It's my busy/busy season at work right now. Trying just to crunch through everything!

Thanks for the movie review. I watched/listened to it as I did some work in the kitchen today! Technology, streaming and a computer are wonderful tools!

  4. Sounds like a great week!
I bought some of the weekly digital deals at Kroger too. Glad you were able to get the cheese. I thought that was a good deal, and I love cheese. Great deals on the meat and milk!
Hope you didn't have any flooding with Fred. We had so much rain last night, there was a river thru my yard. Fortunately it ran away from the house.
Thanks for the chicken recipe. Sounds tasty!
Hope you have a great weekend.

    1. Thank you, Kathy. We did not have any flooding from Fred. I’m glad it ran the other way from your house. It really poured down here. Glad you were able to get in on those Kroger deals too. I wish Kroger was closer than it is, but I will take what I can get. :)

  5. What deals you got on meat. That is a lot pf packs - good freezer stock up. Milk - wow.
    Sounds like a good week.
I pick tomatoes not quite ripe as well - as something wants a taste! They ripen perfectly.
    Have a good weekend

    1. That is what Bailey was worried about - the tomatoes not getting ripe, but I assured her they would.

Hope you have a good weekend too.

  6. You had a great frugal week. I think we might watch that movie for our at home date night. Popcorn and a movie sounds great today as it is finally raining... Should bake but I really don't feel like it right now.

    God bless.

  7. It is rare to see anyone mention Ingles so now I know you don't live too far from me.

  8. Can you cover tomato plants with a net, Belinda? That’s what I do with my pineapples. Otherwise critters always eat them as soon as the fruit turns yellow.

  10. I make the chicken casserole recipe with cream of chicken soup. I have been cooking the chicken in the crockpot and then throwing it together after work and it’s so quick that way. It’s a favorite her.

    1. Thanks, Sam. When Bailey goes thrifting, sometimes she will stop at Taco Bell and order something off the dollar menu. If she orders one thing, it seems like they give her 20 sauce packets. LOL way overkill.
