Frugal Friday 2-7-2020

This week was going to be a good one financially as I was scheduled to work every day. Then on Tuesday the announcement came that school would be closed for the rest of the week due to illness, unfortunately.

It then started raining on Tuesday and we received a months worth of rain in two days. Other school systems around us were closing because of all the flash flooding. I'm positive that school would have been called off anyway due to all the road closures.

On Thursday we ran a few errands. My daughter wanted to coupon this week, so we did.

We went to Publix where we bought multiple packages of Kotex for 50¢  per package.

We picked up two bottles of Herbal Essence for 57¢ each.

We also picked up multiple packages of Equal sweetener for free. We won't use those, so we donated them to The Little Free Pantry.

You can see them here in the lower left hand of the photo.

We also stopped at Walmart and found a box of Crackers for 58¢, one container of I Can't Believe it's Not Butter for free, and three packages of Cup Noodles Stir Fry Cups for 78¢ each. Ibotta is offering a rebate on those, so they were free.

We watched the movie Harriett for our movie night this week. Based on the true story of Harriett Tubman, we both really enjoyed the film.

Gas is down to $1.88 per gallon here this week!

We went to the bread outlet this week and scored thirty hamburger buns for $1.99.

I got a new book this week:

The Berkeley Co-op food book: Eat better and spend less. I've not finished reading it yet, but I like what I see.

We received multiple freebies this week.

Yeast & some coupons:

How was your frugal week?

  1. I found a great deal on a discounted ski pass for my nephew next week. My parents are paying, but it will save them 40%, so they are thrilled. Other than that, I sold an item on eBay, made dinners at home, and tried to use up our leftovers as much as possible.

  2. I was hoping when I clicked on the book, a sample would appear. Enjoy the book for me, too.

Many deals for you this week. Lots. Here, seldom waste food. Gas for vehicle is 20-cents more than you are paying, but we only use $25 to $27 monthly.

Rain for you and a dusting of snow last night for me.

    1. There was a cold front behind all the rain, so we are having snow flurries today. This weather is crazy. LOL

  3. I have had you on my mind since yesterday - saw where there was a ton of rain in your state. So glad you are ok.
WOW - you got some good deals. Those kind of prices can maybe take the sting out of not working as much. Hopefully you get back to normal next week with work.
Let us know what you think about the Berkley Coop book. Sounds interesting.
    Have a good weekend.

  5. It’s too bad you missed the extra teaching hours, Belinda. But on the other hand it’s safer to be at home, away from illness and flooding.

After all the shopping around , and paying for a home inspection it looks like I’ll get a $25 saving if I switch insurance. I’m not happy about it, but I think I’ll make the switch to keep both auto and home insurance with the same company.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Yes t s much safer to be home away from the illness and flooding.

I'm sorry you couldn't get a bigger discount with your home owners insurance. It is nice to be with the same company for both though that way you'll quality for a multiple policy discount. Every little bit helps.

I hope you have a great weekend too.

  6. I love couponing and you found some great deals Belinda! I'm sorry that everyone is sick in your school district. I have heard of some bad flu outbreaks in different states. Stay well.

  7. That stinks that you didn't get to work all week but I am glad you didn't get sick from everyone. I love the little free pantry idea. I am going to bring it up to the library. See if we can get one started.

    1. They are so terrific, Theresa. There are two of them here in our community and I know that one of them sees around 7 people per day come and visit it.
