Mail Order Prescriptons

My daughter's Insurance company decided in January 2016 that maintenance medications would have to be filled by mail order rather than through a retail store pharmacy.

The problem with this was we were not informed about these changes. Therefore our limited number of uses for a retail pharmacy have been used up already.

My daughter also has a secondary insurance that will pick up the balance. There has been a lot of red tape involved in figuring out not only how to get her medicine in a timely manner, but also how to go about getting the medicine paid for by her second insurance.

The primary insurance company wants me to pay for the balance of her prescriptions out of pocket. My cost would be $474.69. This would be a huge blow to my budget, which is why I need the secondary insurance to pick up the balance.

As it stands right now I have asked the primary insurance company to let us use a retail pharmacy since they are refusing to coordinate benefits with our secondary insurance.

As of right now we are awaiting a response from them.

  3. Ugh . .says the lady currently battling her own ins. company who declined/denied preauthorizing a new (but very expensive) medication. Sorry for your troubles. It is the squeeky wheel who tends to get resolution, however, remain steadfast!

  6. Memphis has an outstanding Church Health Center that helps needy in unimaginable ways. Its physicians volunteer, and I know my PCP gives every extra pill supply to Church Health Center.

  7. My dh is taking a very expensive medication for an autoimmune disease. With insurance it would cost me $250.00 per month co-pay and using Costco it is $300.00 every three months. He right now is taking 6 of those pills a day. When he was only taking 4 the cost was $168.00 per three months. If there is a Costco near you call and ask the cost. You do not need to be a member and our insurance is like yours. We need to go through mail order after a couple of months of retail and trying the meds out. Cheryl

  11. What a pain...my mama's insurance requires her to mail order a lot of things, too. Sometimes they don't arrive when they should and then she has to pay for a doctor's visit for a "small" prescription amount from the pharmacist. Hope this all works out quickly for you.

Also, my son's college required insurance and offered it at a decent price through the school. We declined it because we already had him insured, but it is definitely something worth looking into.
