Frugal Friday October 8, 2021

Welcome to Friday!

It’s been a rainy week here in the SE corner of Tennessee. We needed some rain, so I'm grateful for it.

Quote of the Week

My Frugal Week

On Saturday I gave myself a haircut and then vacuumed the area to clean it up and ended up vacuuming most of the house. I’ve been cleaning a lot since my surgery as I can see so much better (dirt I couldn’t see before).

Bailey was shopping at the thrift store and found me a bag full of reading glasses for only $2.00.

Earning Money

I’ve been cleaning out the pantry and decided  to sell a mandolin slicer we bought at a yard sale but hadn’t used. Bailey listed it in Facebook Marketplace and it sold for $40 on the same day.

I also made two sales on eBay this week. I sold an old Coca Cola bottle from Kentucky and a mini Betty Crocker pie plate.

I earned $7.51 on a Amazon card for a milk purchase settlement.

Avoiding Spending

We didn’t buy any groceries this week other than the pizza from Publix. We used what we had here at home to make meals

Saving Money In My Frugal Kitchen

I was running low on flour this week, and decided to add some to my Walmart grocery order. They had the two pound bag for $1.00 and the five pound bag for $1.18. Three extra pounds of flour for eighteen cents?! What a great deal, although I bought the ten pound bag for $2.24.

We have two freezers here and one day while going back and forth between my recipes on the blog and the Walmart grocery order, I realized I had frozen bananas in one freezer and frozen pumpkin in the other, and realized I could make my Pumpkin Banana Bread using both ingredients. So, I made a loaf on Tuesday to have this week.

I bought this hamburger bun pan a while ago off of eBay. Turns out it is a great way to make eggs for sandwiches too.

Meals This Week

Friday: Taco Meat Stuffed Potatoes and Salad. I used one half of a pound of ground beef, browned it and then added a small amount of cooked rice to s-t-r-e-t-c-h it out. I had mine over a baked potato, which was so good. Bailey had hers on flour tortillas.

Saturday: Dirty Rice, Mixed Vegetables, Carrot Raisin Salad

SundaySticky Pineapple Chicken, Rice, Steamed Broccoli

Monday: Tamale Pie, Corn on the Cob, Salad

Tuesday: Tuesday is movie night here, so we normally eat a late lunch and then have pizza while watching a movie that evening. I had some Tamale Pie left from Monday, so the choice for lunch was that or baked spaghetti I made using up bits of food from the freezer and fridge.

I took a container of cooked Italian sausage from the freezer, some pizza sauce from the fridge, some mozzarella cheese, and baked that into a pasta dish using elbow macaroni. I also made some homemade garlic butter and using hamburger buns, made them into garlic bread to serve with either lunch.

Wednesday: We stopped at Publix after a doctor appointment to pick up a prescription and they had Red Baron pizza on sale for buy one get one free. They ended up costing only $2.00 each, so that is what I made for dinner once we got home along with a salad.

Thursday:  Fajita Baked Chicken, Rice, Broccoli

Saving on Entertainment

This week I watched the film, The Secret: Dare to Dream and The Pursuit of Love, which stars the adorable Lilly James from Downton Abby. Both are free to watch on Amazon Prime.

That is all the news to report on our frugal week in Tennessee. Thank you for dropping by, you are always welcome here. We would love to hear about your week in the comment section.

    1. Thank you, Lisa. Bailey really liked the Red Baron pizza too. We usually get Jacks, but this may have been a game changer for her and the price was really good.

  5. Hi Belinda! Funny you made Egg McMuffin eggs...I made them too but I put them in the microwave for about a minute in a bowl to get the shape! We are very into English Muffins lately and I got a 12 pack at Costco for $3, the regular price for a pack of 4 at the grocery stores. I've been doing so much canning and freezing...I'm so happy, I have food for a few months now. Great idea to sell some things on FB Marketplace. Your menus sound so delicious!!!

    1. That is funny, Rain. I’ve microwaved eggs before. It’s so quick and easy too. That is a great price for English Muffins and you can do so much with them. That is great that you have food stocked for a few months now. I think it is more imply than ever before.
