We received our free copy of the December Holiday edition of Southern Living magazine this week. I also received a copy of Real Simple magazine too.
Consumer Reports is relaunching their free 1940s newsletter, Bread & Butter, which was first published in 1941 to help cash-strapped Americans make smart decisions with limited resources. I even found a vintage issue from 1941 that you can read for free online here.
Another place to get free ebooks is Free Booksy.

We (or husband and grandson) cleaned the gutters last week too just in time for this snow we are having. The seasons changed so fast...boom it was winter! And yes the years go by way too fast. Sorry to hear about the cousin.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful weekend.
Thank you so much, Vickie.
DeleteIt sounds like a good frugal week. I'm so glad to hear there was no swelling with the eye injections. I won't be buying anything today either. I'm off to read the articles you linked to - thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha.
DeleteAll the Light We Cannot See is a great book! I read it a few years back.
ReplyDeleteGood to know, thanks Sluggy.
DeleteNice work this week! I think we are hiking today, so also no plans to shop. - Hawaii Planner
ReplyDeleteThank you! Enjoy your hike today.
DeleteI use to belong to a group called the Compact. They were all about bartering, etc and not spending money. I went a year and only bought 1 thing that I couldn't get free or barter for. I wonder if they are still around?
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great group to belong to, Sluggy.
DeleteDear Belinda, I just want to get this out of the way first...not good news, the Montreal transit maintenance workers are planning yet another strike, this time for 5 weeks, beginning the second week in December. https://www.ctvnews.ca/montreal/article/stm-maintenance-workers-launching-month-long-overtime-strike-in-december/
ReplyDeleteThe worst possible time. Now that I got this out of the way and shared the link with you, which I hope you don't mind, and I so appreciate your prayers, dear friend.
I am so glad you had no swelling from your eye injections!
The Southern Living Magazine looks great, Belinda! I used to subscribe to and get Country Woman and Reminisce, but sadly they are no longer published! I went to the pharmacy the other day to get my prescriptions, which I do once a month, and while I was there I was looking at the magazines...wow, the prices have skyrocketed, haven't they? And the ones that are made in the U.S....for example, the price will say something like $7 U.S., $9 Canada. Insane, really.
Thank you so much for sharing the link to Bread and Butter! I love anything from the 1940's era, from music to learning about how they rationed during the war, etc. I really appreciate you sharing this!
Your posts are always packed with great ideas, tips and advice about how to save money...and the environment. And I can't thank you enough for all you do for your family and for others, Belinda.
God bless you, and I really appreciate everything you are doing.
I’m so sorry that the transit maintenance workers are planning another strike, how awful for you all! Yes, this is the worst possible time. I do not mind you sharing the link here at all. I love southern slicing magazine too and Country Women too. I also loved Victoria magazine. They sure have gone up in price! I am really looking forward to the Bread and Butter newsletter. Like you, I enjoy reading things from the 1940s. Thank you again for all of your kind words. They sure do lift up my spirits. I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Belinda
DeleteLoved "All The Light We Can Not See". Such a great read.
ReplyDeleteYou had a wonderfully frugal week.
God bless.
That is good to know. Thank you, Jackie.
DeleteSounds like a great week with great savings!
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you will be able to go longer between eye injections.
No shopping here for Black Friday, but I still need to buy a few more presents' I just have no ideas right now.
Thanks for the links; I look forward to reading the newsletter. I checked Clara's kitchen out of the library, and she wrote about growing up in the depression and some recipes, and her grandson made some YouTube videos of her cooking. I enjoyed the movie "All the Light we can not see"
Hope you have a great weekend. It is cold, brrr.
Thank you, Kathy. It was a good week. I still need to buy a few Christmas presents too. I didn’t realize Clara wrote a book. I’ll have to check that out. I’m happy to hear you enjoyed the All the light you cannot see film. That makes me look forward to it. It’s definitely cold here too. Brrrr us right. I hope you have a great weekend too.
