Second Frugal Friday of January 2022

Welcome to Friday!

Quote of the Week

At any given moment you have the power to say: this is not how my story will end." -Christine Mason Miller

My Frugal Week

This week I worked on finishing up what inventory we had on hand for Bailey’s shops. I steamed and processed them and she will do the listings. It’s a good feeling to be caught up on inventory for the moment. She is pet sitting in Chattanooga this week and there was a delivery of inventory while she was gone, so it was only for a moment that we were caught up. πŸ˜‚

I bought a new pair of pants from Torrid this week and used a 50% off coupon, which saved me $16.49. Several of their clothing items are 50% off right now.

I won a $15 Swagbucks  Collector Bill this week. I thought it was funny being hibiscus when I mentioned the tea in my blog post last week.

I had a follow up doctors appointment this week. My doctor is really thorough in making sure I am up to date on everything. As a result, she gave me a tetanus shot since it has been over ten years since my last one. We are going to discuss the shingles vaccine when I see her next month.

Joy of the Week

I’m still riding the good feeling of money from last week.

Question of the Week

Are you expecting any extreme weather in your area over the weekend? We may get some snow on Sunday, time will tell.

Avoiding Spending

I didn't avoid spending money this week, and do not want to have a freezer full of meat and then lose power from an ice storm, so I will wait until next week for groceries.

Saving Money In My Frugal Kitchen

Smuckers is having a buy one get one free sale on their website for Jif peanut butter this month until January 17th. The shipping fee is $7.00, which I took into consideration. Walmart sells the four pound can for $9.86 while the cost is $8.89 on the Smuckers website.

When I figure in the cost of shipping and the free jar, my price comes down to $6.61 per four pound jar, which is a savings of $3.25 per jar. I bought four of the jars, which saved me $13.00. If you’re interested, the code for this sale is JANUARYBOGO.

Meals This Week

Recipe of the Week

The recipe this week was requested by several people. The last time we made this we used a croissant crust rather than a pizza crust, and it was even better than before.

Bailey’s Big Mac Pizza

1 pound ground beef
1/4 cup mayonnaise
3/4 cup Thousand Island dressing
1/3 cup dill pickles, chopped
1/2 cup onion, diced
1/2 teaspoon each salt and pepper
1 Pillsbury pizza crust
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup lettuce, chopped

Preheat oven to 400F.
Brown ground beef in a skillet.
Crumble ground beef well while it's cooking.
Drain the ground beef.
In a separate bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Thousand Island dressing, diced pickles, diced onions, and salt and pepper.
Unroll the pizza crust and press it out onto a greased 10 x 15 inch baking sheet.
Bake the pizza crust for 8 minutes and then remove it from the oven.
Spoon the ground beef mixture onto the prebaked crust and spread it out evenly,
Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top of the ground beef.
Return the pizza to the oven and bake until cheese is completely melted and the crust is nicely browned for 6-8 minutes.
Sprinkle the shredded lettuce on top of the pizza.
Drizzle Big Mac Sauce over pizza.

Saving on Entertainment

I’ve been watching Them on Amazon Prime this week. The story, which is actually a series, begins with the story of The Great Migration, which is the relocation of six million African Americans from the rural south of the United States to the north, Midwest, east and west.

The first story involves a black family from North Carolina moving to a white neighborhood  in Compton, California in the 1950s. While I normally like this type of setting, the white neighbors are just awful to the newly arrived black family.

The storyline involves a little bit of supernatural, which I normally don’t enjoy, although there isn’t enough of that to turn me off of watching it so far. I haven’t decided if I like the series or not as some of the language to me is cringeworthy.

Have any of you watched the series and if so what do you think of it?

  1. Oh that Big Mac pizza sounds good! Thank you! Can't wait to make it.
We are expecting 9-16 inches of snow with a glaze of ice, whee. I'm going to try to get everything washed and cleaned since we have lost power during ice storms. Hope you and your family stay safe and warm.

    1. Thank you, Kathy. I hope you all stay safe and warm too. I went and bought some stuff to make sandwiches just in case the power goes out. I hope it doesn’t. :)

  2. Sounds like a great week, Belinda! I cleaned out my eBay closet, and it looks so much better. I donated a bunch of stuff that hasn't sold, organized the packing material, and it's a lot easier to find things.

    1. Thank you. The organization in your eBay closet sounds great! I love it when it’s all neat and tidy and you can find what you need.

  3. For the first time EVER I got all of the collector bills! I bought my second $25 Amazon card for the month yesterday. This is rare for me but I have been working at it since it is so cold and we are home. We are expecting winter weather and we are right on a dividing line so we cannot say what we might get but it looks more toward ice. We do have a generator that we can run fridges and freezer off of for a time. We run on Propane so it is easy to stay stocked on fuel. We shopped yesterday and are making bread as I type. Here's hoping the power stays on!

    1. Yes! Here is hoping the power stays on! You all sound supplied and ready for the weather. I hope if you get any it comes with no problems.

Congratulations on getting ALL the collectors bills, that is awesome! I am going to try and get another one.

I hope you have a great weekend.

  4. I'm going to make that Big Mac Pizza..with a low carb crust. Sounds sooo good.
Thanks for the heads up on the Peanut butter...we go through a lot.

    1. You’re welcome, Vickie. I’m glad someone else can use the BOGO free peanut butter deal too. And, I hope you enjoy the Big Mac pizza. :)

  5. It's snowy today but haven't looked beyond. As I'm home bound the snow will be exciting to walk in- living the Covid dream. That's a good pb real. I get it at Aldi, love their crunchy, but if I was partial to Jiff, it'd be a good buy.

I’m so sorry that you’ve tested positive for COVID, Sam. I know you’re vaccinated and boosted, so I hope you get over this quickly and with nothing miserable.

I usually get the Great Value peanut butter, so this Jif will be a nice treat for a change.

  6. You are doing great, saving money and helping your daughter earn money. What a good mom.

  7. Yum that recipe sounds wonderful. You did very well on the savings for the peanut butter.

    God bless.

  8. Sounds like another good frugal week there. Your delaying grocery shopping in the winter there is just like hurricane season for us here in Florida. Sure hope you don't lose power. Stay bundled up and warm either way!

    1. Thank you, Martha. I hope we don’t lose power too. It’s so good to “see” you!

  9. I hope you don't get ice. Crossing fingers for you. My area is the deciding factor if you are all going to get ice in the South or the promised snow fall. Right now we are getting snow so that looks hopeful for you all. :) We got some rain for a couple of hours & then it turned to snow. It's covering the grassy surfaces but not the streets.

It was a normal frugal week here. That was weird because I haven't had a normal week in over two years. I enjoyed it very much.

I have been watching CheapandEasyCooking on YT. She is just the best. She has a small channel and it is truly a gem.

I have also been watching RCG Kreations on YT. Another small channel but also a gem. Her food prep series is amazing. It is so different & unique from other prep videos that are out there.

  10. Thank you, Safyne. Thank you for the suggestion on CheapAndEasy and RCG Creations cooking on YouTube. I saved both channels to watch later. I see Great Value brands in one of the CheapAndEasy hauls, so I already like her.

I would like to have snow as long as we don’t lose power, but right now it looks like it will go around us, but we will know for sure tomorrow.

I hope you have a great weekend.
