I cancelled my membership in the Dr. Fuhrman's Member Support Center today. It cost me $3.95 per month to be a member, but I wasn't using it, so I couldn't justify the expense for that reason. I don't like paying for things that I am not using. It's easy enough to call and cancel something like this and not make any unnecessary payments.
My daughter and I cleaned out one of our spare rooms yesterday. We went through a lot of papers and tossed items we no longer needed. It feels good to get rid of these things and have more order in the house. I even identified a couple of items I can sell on Ebay.
Speaking of Ebay, I sold another item on there today for $9.44. I stopped in at the post office today after school to mail it.
Today I listed five books on PaperBackSwap.com (PBS.com). These are books that we were unable to trade at McKays for whatever reason. When you list 10 books on PBS.com they automatically give you two credits. When someone wants to buy one of your books, you pay the postage to send it to them, and you receive one credit. When you want to buy a book from someone, they pay the postage to send it to you, and you spend one of your credits. This is the first time I've used PBS.com, so I will let you know how it goes.
I worked half a day today and got to eat lunch with my daughter too, so a win-win situation. I made both of us wraps with ham and cheese, broccoli with ranch dressing for dipping, and corn chips with water to drink. I also had some peanut butter and crackers in there just in case it was not filling. She tends to get low blood sugar from time to time, so I like to keep snacks on hand for her just in case.

Tuesday ~ 9-2-2014
Today was a hot day in southern Tennessee!
When I got in my car after school the thermometer read 121 degrees.
Whew!
I'm ready for some cooler weather.
I worked in 6th grade today, all day, with the best group of students. They were so good for me that I would love to do it all over again tomorrow.
Ebay Sales & Post Office
After school I had to go by the post office and mail two packages. My first two sales on Ebay. I earned a total of $25.19, but spent $12.30 on postage, so my total in the end was $12.89. The $12.30 was the only thing I spent money on today.
Chickens
For a variety of reason, we have made the decision to get rid of our chickens. One of the reasons is because the cost of feed had gone up and I was spending $25.00 every other month or so on feed. Another reason is that they stopped laying eggs over a year ago and have never started again. I can buy a lot of eggs for the $25.00 I was spending on feed every other month.
For those of you that might be worried about them, we gave our chickens to a good family that is enjoying them so much. I loved our chickens and would love to have more again one day, but a different breed for sure. The breed we had prior to these chickens were very good layers and that is what I would like to go with again someday. But like I said this was for a variety of reasons, not all that I've mentioned here. Someday the time will be right to have them again.
Food Today
Breakfast consisted of grilled cheese sandwiches with grapes fixed at home this morning. My daughter could get free breakfast at school, but she chooses not to do that.
They also give free lunch to students which today consisted of nacho chicken fajitas with side salad, watermelon, and grapes. My lunch was peanut butter and crackers. I think she got the better end of the deal. ;)
I was hungry after school and still had an hour to kill before I picked up my daughter at her school. I was tempted to order a sandwich and drink from Sonic, but I didn't. I told myself that I was going to be home before too long and could make something then. So no money spent there today.

Mom made dinner for us tonight...Grilled Hamburgers and Potato Chips. It was good and I'm grateful I didn't have to cook dinner tonight.

Labor Day ~ Monday ~ 9-1-2014
Labor Day, which is celebrated the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievement of American workers.
I didn't make it out to the pharmacy yesterday, but ended up going today instead. Good thing since my Mom decided to go with me and pick up a few things she needed. I ran errands to the post office, bank, pharmacy, and grocery store. Combining errands is one way we save money on gas here.
Afterwards I came home and folded all the laundry I've washed the last two days and put that away and got started making dinner.
Today is the first day of a brand new month, which is a good time to start keeping track of your spending. I spent $1.50 today to pick up my prescription at the pharmacy. The pharmacy I use will give you a bottle of ice cold water for free when picking up prescriptions. I always take advantage of this generous offer.
My daughter received her first check from Inbox Dollars for $27.00, which isn't too shabby for a teenager. Anyone can join the site and earn money by clicking on their emails and each person receives a $5.00 bonus for signing up.
Dinner tonight will be Veggie Burgers with Mixed Vegetables on the side.

Sunday ~ 8-31-2014
Good Sunday morning everyone. It's a rainy day here in southern Tennessee. I woke up early and headed to the walk in clinic. The doctor says it is the ragweed/allergies causing me to be sick right now. She ran a strep test but it came back negative, but she prescribed antibiotics anyway. So, I'll be going to town later to pick those up today.
The family who wanted our trampoline came Saturday evening to pick it up. They have 5 grandchildren who will use and love it just like my daughter did for so long when she was younger. It really made me feel good to know someone will enjoy it once again. :)
When it comes to our finances we need to get the most out of our money. We do this when we buy second hand items, go to yard sales, thrift stores, accept hand me downs, Freecycle/Craigslist, barter and swap. We don't go into debt to buy things to keep up with people (and with a teenager in high school, I can attest to the fact that they really feel the pressure to keep up). We simply do without those things that are beyond our financial reach. I would rather do without those things than have the added stress of paying for them later.
I am fortunate to have learned/taught myself more skills over the last few years, so that we've been able to stretch our resources as far as possible even as we continue to hone our budgeting skills further. We should never stop learning or trying how to do things better and more inexpensively.
We make our own fabric softener, make do and mend clothing, grow some of our vegetables, preserve food, cook from scratch to sufficiently meet our needs. Whatever money I can save by making or doing it myself is money I can spend on necessities like food, insurance, car repairs, etc.
We need to teach others these things as well and make sure no one is left behind. We especially need to teach these things to our children, so they don't make the same mistakes we made. My daughter experiences some of the same sticker shock that Amy D. wrote about her children experiencing. She helps me in so many ways with couponing, looking for bargains at yard sales, and she isn't even afraid to ask if the seller will take less for an item either. I just love that about her. :)
Dinner tonight will be Baked Potatoes with Sour Cream and cheese if desired. I'll serve steamed Broccoli as a side dish or topping for anyone who wants that.
This is one of our favorite meals here at the Frugal Workshop and one we serve regularly. It cost me less than $5.00 for this meal and fits well in our budget.

Saturday
Another hot and humid day here in southeastern Tennessee. We had some rain this evening as a result.
My daughter and I went to McKay's this afternoon to do a little bit of trading. We went through our books and movies and sorted out the ones we are finished with for the time being. We came back with two movies, Frozen and Divergent, two books, and $53.00 in cash. Definitely a good trade.
Before we left I woke up early this morning and started laundry right away. I cleaned the bathroom, emptied the last of the cat food into the canister and cleaned up that area of the hallway, then washed what few dishes were in the kitchen sink. I can go to bed with an empty sink, but incredibly there are always a couple of dishes in there when I wake up. ;)
In the kitchen today, I washed all the breakfast dishes and made up two single size servings of stir fry (from leftovers not eaten this week) and placed them into the freezer. These will be great to include in a lunch one day soon.
Meals today included...
Breakfast
For me:
Biscuit (leftover from Thursday dinner)
Red Grapes
Water to drink
For my daughter:
Fried Eggs
Biscuit with Butter (last one)
Sweet Tea
Lunch was Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches and dinner was Homemade Pizza. I did not feel like cooking at all tonight. I have been getting sick all week and will probably go to the walk in clinic in the morning.
The couple who wanted the trampoline came by today and picked it up. They have 5 grandchildren who will enjoy it now, so that makes me feel good knowing that someone will love it again like my daughter did.
We stopped in at one yard sale today where the lady was selling hard back books for $1.00 and paperbacks for 50¢. The lady hosting the sale brought my daughter a bag and said she could fill it up for $5.00 and my daughter told her she only had $4.00 and the lady told her that would be just fine. She was thrilled!
It is so wonderful looking forward to a three day weekend, which is a real treat. I am hoping to get a lot of things done around the house. My home is my castle and it makes me feel good to tend to things around here, cleaning and creating order. It also helps the work week to run smoother, which also helps to keep stress to a minimum.
I hope you are having a good weekend. :)
