Third Frugal Friday of July 2026
Welcome to Frugal Friday
Each Friday here at Frugal Workshop, I love sharing the frugal wins, quiet savings, and simple strategies that helped us stretch our budget over the past seven days. It’s a gentle look back at the small things that make a big difference.

My Frugal Week
Last Friday we went to Kroger in Dalton, Georgia and then to Woodstock, Georgia in order to shop some of the thrift stores there. I didn't buy very much at all as I think the thrift store prices on clothes are higher than I want to pay. I did pick up a copy of Southern Living's Heritage Cookbook for 99 cents though.
On Tuesday we met with our real estate lawyer and afterwards we went to Chattanooga to McKay Used Books to trade. We received over $66 in trade credit and the books I wanted came to around $20 and Bailey used the rest of the credit on the items she selected.
The children's books were placed in the treasure box I keep for the students I tutor. The summer camp journal was already chosen from the treasure box yesterday.
While thrifting over the weekend I found two new math games. The game pictured above is Roll 'n Multiply and was awarded the Dr. Stevanne Auerbach award of excellence for its educational value. The game sells for $24.99. but I picked it up for $1.00 and it was brand new still in the shrink wrap.
The students I tutor really liked this one and I can see how it's going to benefit them in learning their multiplication facts. One of them even asked me if I could get another one to put in the treasure box.
On Wednesday I posted new no trespassing signs around the property. We’ve been having random strangers driving up here setting off the driveway alarm and then turning around in the yard and leaving without saying a word once they see us looking at them from the upstairs window.
I received a payout from Google Search for $2.29.
Yard Sale Saturday
Last Saturday they had been calling for 70% chance of rain, so there were not many yard sales. We went to two sales and one of those was a church sale.
Freebies
Two of the yard sales we attended last week were giving away free books, so we picked up several of those for the students I tutor. And one of the thrift stores had free math books for the grade I am tutoring, so that was a win-win to me.
Saving on Electric
Our electric bill came this week and I figured it cost us around $4 per day for the electricity in our all electric home, which was during a heatwave, so worth it in my book.
How was your week?

Dear Belinda, you really scored beautifully on that game, brand new for $1.00.
ReplyDeleteVery impressive, dear friend ๐งก
You are such a kind ๐ and thoughtful person to pick up some free books for the students you tutor.
Thank you so much for sharing, and I hope you, Bailey and Ginger have a lovely weekend.
Thank you, Linda. The girls really enjoyed it and I had so much fun watching them try to recall their multiplication facts. It's good for them to retain their math skills during their summer break.
DeleteYou're so sweet. Thank you for always being a ray of sunshine in your comments on my blog. I appreciate you very much and hope you have a wonderful weekend.

What a good week!
ReplyDeleteWhat great finds on the books and games to help the kids that you are tutoring. Sounds like you are making learning fun for them.
Glad that you have the driveway alarm; I guess people are curious about the sale, but it is a little scary with strangers on your property. Stay safe!
Have a good weekend. It is hot and humid here so I doubt if I get much done outside.
Thank you, Kathy. I’m with you on the working outside. I didn’t last very long with the weed eater today. I wasn’t sorry when the battery died. lol

That bookstore sounds wonderful! We don't have a good bookstore to sell/trade in my area. The one I sell to doesn't give much. I guess anything I get for my books is better than nothing.
ReplyDeleteIt must be a fun game if there is a request for one to be in the treasure box. I love when learning is fun!
Thank you, Wendi. We love McKays! It’s much better than other businesses that buy back books. I like learning when it’s fun too and the girls seem to really enjoy it too.
