My Frugal Week

This past week I was able to work two days and packed lunches and drinks both days. Both days I took my laptop with me to crosspost while I was working. This week I'm scheduled to work three days.

Another task I accomplished while working was to sort out coupons and stapled like ones together. Doing this while I'm working saves time for me to do other tasks when I'm home.

We went to Walmart on Thursday afternoon. We stopped and looked at the 50% off Halloween candy, but didn't buy any candy. We did pick up some bread and garlic chicken lunch meat on markdown.

We went to several yard sales on Saturday even though it was a cold 34° when we left home.

In my bedroom I have a lamp with a pull string chain and love the ease of of the pull chain. I've been wanting one for the table next to my chair in our living room.

I've looked at the lamps at Lowe's and found one for $54, but decided to wait and see if I could find one second hand. Yesterday was the day! We found one for $1.00. I've already been using it and love it so much better than the lamp with the rotating switch.

Waiting to buy the things we need or even want second hand helps us save money in our home.

We also found a set of over the ear headphones for $1.00. I like these better than the in ear headphones and they are much more comfortable.

November is here and I know I've been thinking about our Thanksgiving menu. I've been writing down what we plan on having and will be looking for sales on those items. I already picked up some dressing mix on closeout.

How was your week? Frugal or no?

  1. What a great deal on the lamp. It does pay to wait until you can score what you need at rock bottom price. I'm a very patient girl. Sometimes I wait a year or 2 to buy what I had my eye on. I wait, because my dad taught me that everything has to go on sale. He also taught me how stores keep marking things down until rock bottom price, because they need to make space/room for new inventory. That's why I wait for the 80-90% off sales at retail stores.

You always seem to find great items at yard sales. Our sales are usually overpriced and then the products aren't even always all that great.

    1. THank you. Sometimes we have overpriced yard sales here too, Ms Goose. We came across one yard sale yesterday where things like a small shelf was pried at $23, which was overpriced for a yard sale. She probably ended up taking those items back in her house.

  2. Good for you on the lamp. Not a yard sale, but my daughter just moved into an apartment with a nice big dining room, but she did not have a table and chairs. She had a smallish one she got for store credit when she hosted a jewelery making party as part of a bachelorette weekend and bench she bought herself after saving for the one she wanted. My sister upgraded and offered her a table and four chairs-exactly what she wanted. Now, she has a bench for a window area, the old table will be a quirky desk, and she ha a furnished dining room-all for no added money. And, it helped my sister declutter something that most likely would not have sold even had she tried to sell.

    1. Thank you, Sam. That's great that your daughter got the table she wanted by waiting and saving for it. That's the best way to get what we need and save money in the process. And helping your sister declutter is an added bonus. Can't beat that. :)

  3. I have a antique milk glass lamp of my grandmothers that needs a new cord. I need to work on getting that fixed. I love yard sales, but need nothing. I did make homemade pizza yesterday. So yummy.

    1. That's great, Kim. Homemade pizza is so good. My Mother used to make it back when I was growing up. She didn't make it very often, but when she did she made multiple varieties. It was so good.

  4. Good things come to those who wait! Great deal on the lamp.
My T-day menu never changes much from one year to the next. We enjoy certain things, so that is what I fix.
    Have a lovely week.

    1. Thank you, Cheryl. Mine doesn't change too much except I may leave some things out. Due to dwindling family and some things I'm the only one who will eat them. LOL...no sense in making them just for me. I hope you have a good week too.

  5. Your patience paid off Belinda. $1 is a great price for a lamp like that.
I also don't mind for waiting if I can find something for a great price.

You went out in the morning when it was 34°F? I would have stayed in bed under a pile of blankets! LOL

    1. Bahaha, Nil. It was really cold, but didn't stop people from having Yard Sales. They will die down soon enough, I'm sure of that. I'm surprised there were so many on Saturday .

  6. What a great deal on the lamp!!! I have a few things I'm waiting for to turn up at yard sales. Nothing super necessary, but I always have a list. :)

I picked up several Christmas gifts for my kids at a church yard sale, so that was pretty awesome, including a kid's apron/chef hat that my daughter will LOVE- she's been asking for a chef hat for ages, and her favorite toy is her kitchen, so this will be something that'll get a lot of use. I'm excited to see her open it on Christmas morning. :)
