We have a friend who recently moved, but wasn't too keen on her kitchen countertops as she thought they were outdated.
She couldn't afford to replace them right now, so she covered them with contact paper with a slick finish, so they would be easy to clean.
She felt like the contact paper made a huge difference and I agree. I wanted to share this with my readers because it's such a great way to update countertops without spending much money.

Interesting and easy fix and redo. I just wonder about if the paper wears and she has to remove it....what kind of residue will it leave and how easy/hard to remove that.....or she can just put more contact paper on it I suppose. lolz
ReplyDeleteLOL, Sluggy. I suppose she could. Someone in the comment section said her mother used to do this when she was growing up and changed hers out regularly. If all else fails, there is always goo gone. LOL
DeleteWOW this looks awesome! Nice tip! RE: glue residue: when I worked at a dept store, the housewares dept used plain veggie oil to remove stickers. Goo gone also came to mind. I wouldn't bother if recovering, however
DeleteI thought you would like it, Carol. I thought it looked great too. Great tip on the veggie oil. And I'm like you, if I were recovering it, I wouldn't bother removing the sticky residue.
DeleteThis is a fabulous idea for rentals. Many years ago a friend of mine was renting an apartment with a very dated kitchen (especially the fridge). Her sister did this very same thing to the fridge exterior. I remember it looking pretty good.
ReplyDeleteThe "marble" contact paper that your friend chose is very nice. I haven't looked at the patterns lately. Thanks for sharing the idea, Belinda!
You're welcome, Lili. She said she picked this out at Amazon, but I know our Walmart has a nice variety available as do others I'm sure. That is a great idea for an outdated refrigerator too, thank you for that tip. :)
DeleteI've seen and bought some nice printed contact brand paper at Dollar Tree! I lined a few of my kitchen cabinets with it
ReplyDeleteOh, that's a great tip, Carol. Thank you.
DeleteThis is awesome! I just recently discovered your blog and I love it!!!! I, too, have all of Amy Dacyczyn's books and newsletters and still read them often. I've been reading through your old posts and am really enjoying them. I'm trying read through all of them, so it will take some time! You have lots of great tips and ideas!! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThank you, nkeeling, I'm so glad you are enjoying my blog. I loved Amy D and still do and I still read them often as well. I'm so glad you came to visit and hope you continue to enjoy my blog.
DeleteIt looks great. I like how it makes the kitchen looks airy and light.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Nil. I love how light it made everything look.
DeleteDid I miss how the contact paper is sealed to prevent bacteria from seeking under edges?
ReplyDeleteI looked at the contact paper on Amazon, Anna. It looks very durable, but I'm not sure about the answer to your question. Sorry.
DeleteThanks, Belinda. I will investigate, too. Result is so pretty.
DeleteYou're welcome, Anna. Hope you are doing well. :)
DeleteGoogled and found a lot of information about bacteria and contact paper. A slice or small hole in contact paper with foods grow bacteria.
DeleteIt looks fabulous - I sure hope it is durable.
ReplyDeleteGood job.
I hope so too, Cheryl. :)
DeleteThat looks awesome! Would have never thought of that.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sarah.
DeleteYou did an awesome job on your counter.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sasha.
DeleteIt looks fantastic! I am curious to the durability of it on the counter.
