Saving Money on Gas...Revisited
I've written blog posts before on how to save money on gas here and here. But I've recently found even more savings available to me in a couple of new ways that I wanted to share with my readers.
The first one involves using a Plenti card when purchasing gas. When using a Plenti card I am able to earn 1 point for every gallon of gas I purchase.
My car has a gas tank that will hold 18 gallons, so every time I fill up the tank I am able to earn 15 or more points depending on how much gas is required to fill the tank.
What's nice about the Plenti card is that I can redeem my points for free gas. I currently have 264 Plenti points and when I filled up yesterday the gas pump asked me if I wanted to use $2.00 worth of my points on that purchase.
So, by using the Plenti card when I fill up my gas tank, which is something I have to do anyway, I am actually using this reward card to save money.
Another way that I am saving on gas lately is by using a program called Zipline, which I am able to use at EZ Stop gas stations where I live.
This program saves me 10¢ per gallon over the regular price at the gas pump. My daughter is the one who signed up for the program first and then convinced me to sign up as well.
If I fill up my car and it costs me $28 to fill the tank, then I've saved $2.80 on gas for that purchase. I am sort of kicking myself for not signing up sooner than I did, but better late than never as the saying goes.
Now the EZ Stop stations are only available in east Tennessee, but the Zipline program is available all over the country, so it may be worth your time to see if any of the gas stations you use have a money saving reward program that will help you save money.
Here is a link to the ZipLine website for you to check:

I hope these two programs are able to help my readers save some money on gas. Are there any other programs you know about that helps you save money on gas? I would love to read about it in the comment section.

Hi Belinda,
ReplyDeleteI do some of my grocery shopping at a Kroger affiliate store (Fred Meyer) and earn fuel reward points. I watch for the bonus fuel reward offers with ecoupons. They're usually for gift card purchases, and often quadruple the rewards. I'll buy whatever gift cards I think I might need in the following few months, when I find a 4X fuel reward offer. I completely fill the tank once per month and redeem that months' rewards. I think I average about 20-30 cents/gallon savings, over the course of the year. Fred Meyer sells garden/clothing/household items, too, so the savings can build. I'll look into those rewards programs that you mentioned. Do either of them work with store rewards programs?
My son's tip for saving on gas would be to buy a hybrid. He bought a used Prius in 2013 and gets amazing milage.
Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful Sunday!
I don't think this one works with store rewards program, but it doesn't hurt to look and see. I know our Food City is building a gas station into the parking lot, so I am looking forward to seeing what kinds of rewards we can get on gas perks for their rewards program. And I love Kroger, but it is a bit of a drive for us to go, so we only go every few months or so, but they do have a good fuel rewards program too. My MIL has a Prius and the gas mileage is amazing on it. Good for your son, that's great.
DeleteI hope you have a wonderful Sunday too, Lili. :)
I believe Stop and Shop in my area does a reward program for gas. I don't go to Stop and Shop very often since they are quite expensive and out of my way. But it is a good program for people that shop there regularly.
ReplyDeleteThank you for that good information, Mary Lou. Every bit helps. I hope you have a good week! :)
