Great Deal on Onions
Sweet deal at Aldi this week on onions. They have the 3 pound bags of onions on sale for 99¢.
I bought four bags or 12 pounds of onions, which cost me $3.96. There were 28 onions in the 12 pounds of onions, which makes them 14¢ each or 33¢ per pound.
I put them in an old pair of pantyhose and tied off each one. Here is the finished product.
And here they are hanging in the pantry.
They should last me a good, long time and I'm hoping at least a couple of months.
I love getting a good bargain and feeding my family with food bought at the lowest price possible while still maintaining a healthy diet.

That is a great price! Onions add so much to the flavor of food.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shara. I was tickled when I saw the price. And onions do add to the flavor of food. My daughter loves it when I'm cooking onions because the house smells so good. And they are a great addition to a pot of beans too. :)
DeleteThe smell of onions frying brings my hubby to the kitchen faster than anything I know...lol
DeleteI loved them chopped and raw with beans and rice dishes.
I've been eating them raw this summer, Shara, but am not crazy about them raw. They are so good for you though, so I muster through, lol. Cooked ones are the best though. Love them!
DeleteOnions are at the top of my list for inexpensive vegetables. When I need a quick and easy side dish, I make sauteed onions. The caramelization makes them so yummy and sweet. Delicious on sandwiches, too.
ReplyDeleteCaramelized onions sounds so good, Lili.
DeleteDoes putting them in those panty hose knots really extend the life of the onion? I'm so tired of my onions going bad so quickly.
ReplyDeleteMama P, this is the first time I have tried this, so I will have to let you know. I saw the idea on Pinterest and decided to give it a try. I think it will help to keep the onions longer because they are not touching each other. you know how one bad potato can spoil all the potatoes next to it? I think it's the same for onions. I will let you know how it turns out.
