Dinner tonight is a three pound Rump Roast, picked up last night for $11 as a mark down, along with roasted potatoes and carrots. I decided to pull out the GE Roaster rather than heat up the kitchen with the oven. I usually only pull this out for holiday dinners, but decided to use it today and was glad I did. I served this with fresh, sliced tomatoes from the garden. This dinner cost approximately $14 to make and served four people with leftovers. That works out to $3.50 per serving, which is a very good deal in my book.

Oh my! I'm hungry just looking at it. I love a roaster oven. I normally use mine mostly for holiday dinners too, but this is smart. I've got a huge turkey I need to cook and a roaster oven would be just the thing to use.
ReplyDeleteWe're eating leftovers here. Sort of a clean out the frig day. Grilled chicken, seasoned rice, corn on the cob, and whatever else is in there.
I did take the time to go through the frig and get a few things cleared out. I chopped all the bell pepper and froze them. I also had 8 Brussels sprouts languishing that I steamed lightly so I could toss them in the freezer. We're down to the only thing I have to worry about this week being the carrots and I'm sure they'll be fine.
Your dinner sounds good, Shara. I love grilled chicken and rice. Good job on cleaning your fridge and saving those things in the freezer. I have 10 pounds of carrots to deal with although after today I do have a little bit less, and like you figure they will be fine for a while. :)
DeleteBelinda, must smell wonderful there! Be sure to save all of the broth-it is a wonderful soup or gravy base! I also love my circa 1950's Westinghouse roaster. Good move to use that vs the oven.

DeleteI found a yahoo group that is specifically for the roasters and they have so many good recipes, so I'm definitely going to start using it more.
And I did save my broth along with the leftovers. Will make some soup or beef stew sometime soon. :)

Nothing like a nice roast for dinner! It looks so elaborate but they are so easy to cook.

Pamela, it takes up a lot of room and I normally only use it for holidays. I like it a lot. It cooks a turkey VERY nicely. It also saves me from heating up the kitchen and for that it is worth it. If someone has an oven though there is no NEED for one though, but it is nice to have for these occasions. :)
