Looking Back

Looking back over the last year there were a lot of changes for us in 2024

We lost my Dad in January, so this was the year where both of my parents were no longer with us. To me it’s like an anchor I once had is no longer and realized more than ever that life is short and our time to leave this earth will eventually come too.

I lost sixty-five pounds in 2024 and got a brand new knee. I wish my parents were here to see the new me as they wanted this for me for many years.

I continued to get monthly eye injections in 2024 in the effort to save my eyesight, which is working. My diabetes is under control with the weight loss and my last A1C was 4.5, which is considered non-diabetic. If you know someone with diabetes please urge them to get control of their blood sugar as I learned a hard lesson about the damage diabetes can do to your eyes.

Bailey continued to work from home in 2024 and launched a new embroidery business and one of her creations went viral on TokTok causing some panic during that time, but she mastered it all so well. She’s a hard worker and it shows in her endeavors and all she conquers.

We lost several of our outside cats this year, three of them in one weekend, so now we have no more cats outside and there won’t be anymore. We moved the two remaining cats indoors where they live happy and content lives.

Looking forward to 2025, I want to lose the last of the weight I have to lose. I want to get my left knee replaced, and maybe tackle some other issues like my lymphedema.

I thought we had my Dad’s land sold, but I’ve not heard from the buyer. Hopefully it will sell in 2025.

Financially we held our heads above water and continued to avoid debt like the plague. We were saddened by the hike in grocery prices and pulled out all the stops to save money where we could using the tips and tactics I write about here.

I hope and pray that 2024 was good for you and 2025 will be even better. Let’s continue to build community with each other and make it one of our best years yet.

Thank you for dropping by my frugal blog, you are always welcome here.

We would love to hear all about your week in the comment section.

    1. Thank you so much, Penny. I am getting around OK on my new knee, while still trying to baby my other bad knee. I go back to the Ortho Dr on the 10th and am hoping to find out when my next surgery will be. Then I will be off on a race somewhere! Bahaha!

  6. It is so hard to be an orphan as we call it here. I can still go back home in my memories but oh how they are missed.

    Happy New Year!

  7. When I lost my Dad, I turned to my husband and said we were both orphans now. Belinda, you and your daughter have done a marvelous job saving money, and looking after yourselves. I wish you another year of moving forward.

    God bless.

  8. Congrats on the weight loss! I was also on the weight loss journey this year. I lost 60 pounds and am looking to drop 20 more. It's a process that is freeing! My mom had knee replacement and is having the other knee done in February. She can hardly wait as the non bionic, as we call it, is killing her. It's certainly been a challenge to keep within the grocery budget. Best wishes to you in the New Year!

    1. Thank you, Wendi. 60 pounds lost is terrific! I would love to lose another 20 pounds too or even more, but I would be tickled with 20 more. I know how your Mom feels with her non bionic knee. 😂 I like that name.

I hope 2025 is your year and is very good to you!

  10. Just wanted to wish you and your daughter a Happy New Year. Congratulations on the weight loss as it’s so hard to lose but SO easy to gain. I also lost my dad in January and then became a grandmother in June. As I told a cousin of mine the circle of life the older people are passing NOW we’re the old people.

    1. Thank you so much, Rosa. I’m so sorry about your Dad’s passing in January. Congratulations on becoming a Grammie in June! NOW we are the old people is exactly what has been going through my mind the last year. Our family are all younger than us now. It’s just a real awakening. I hope 2025 is very good to you and your family.

  12. What a year you had...lots of changes.
Sending hugs, it is hard to lose our parents, and you are right, life is short. It seems to be passing quicker now than when I was younger.
Great job on the weight loss. Hope that PT is going well on your knee, and that you feel better each day. Hope that your eyes will continue to improve.
Congratulations to Bailey on her business. How exciting about the viral TokTok; she is so creative.
I'm so sorry about the loss of your kitties.
Hope that 2025 will be full of blessings for you.

    1. Yes, the older I get the faster time seems to fly by.

I have not started PT yet if you can believe it or not. The red tape has been unreal. I blame it on the rural area where we live. It's hard to get someone from home health to come here. But, we have figured it out and they will be here on Monday.

Thank you so much, Kathy. I hope 2025 will be full of blessings for you too. :)
