Menu Plan Monday ~ Saving Money in My Frugal Kitchen

My Frugal Week

On Sunday we did some cleaning out and rearranging of stuff in several areas in our home. I moved some canned goods to make room for other things and Bailey was getting rid of a shopping cart we bought years ago at a yard sale.

I decided to snag the shopping cart and use it to store my tomato products. Now I can drive this cart into my pantry and pull it out as needed.

My inventory includes:

- 14 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
- 6 (28 ounce) cans of tomatoes
- 4 cans tomato paste
- 10 (14.5 ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 14 (14.5 ounce) cans spaghetti/pasta sauce

Hopefully this will be enough to last through the winter months.

Kraft designs their tarter sauce bottles so that it's hard to get all the contents out of the bottle. I simply cut them in half and use a spatula to get all the sauce out of each bottle. There is at least half of a cup inside each one when I do this, which is enough for two or three more meals.

  1. I cut shampoo/conditioner bottles the same way. Other condiments also.

  2. I bought MW in a bottle like that because it was so cheap. I got home and realized it would not all come out. So, I will have to cut it like that. That shopping cart would come in handy around here!

    1. Oh yes, the shopping cart is very useful, Linda. Yes, cutting the bottle seems like the only way to get all of the product out of some of these bottles.

  3. I love that shopping cart filled with tomato products. Sounds like you are well stocked for winter.
I'm hoping FoodCity has a can can sale so I can stock up soon too.
Your meals sound good. I can't think of anything I want to cook lately.
Hope you have a tasty week.

    1. Thank you, Kathy. I would love it if Food City had a can sale soon. I'm making chicken fajitas for dinner tonight. I feel like we get into a rut at times.

I hope you have a great week.

  4. I cut toothpaste, and lotion tubes in half. There is always so much left in those and I don't want to waste what I paid for.

    God bless.

  5. Hi Belinda I love your idea of using the shopping cart for canned goods. I have a smaller shopping cart and you've got me thinking. My house is too small to use it inside. I just have stuff piled in it in the shop but now I'd like to think of how I could put it to better use. Hope you and Bailey have a great week! Sky

  6. It is a shame containers make it hard to get all the product out. I have carefully perched upside down bottles in my refrigerator all the time to get the remains.

    1. Yes, perching containers helps with getting the whole product out of some containers too.
