Third Frugal Friday of Frugal February 2023

Welcome to Frugal Friday!

My Frugal Week

We made it to Friday again. We’ve had all kinds of weather here this week…hot, cold, windy, rainy, you name it and we’ve had it. Today is very cold outside, so we are snug as a bug in a rug in the house.

I had a half gallon of almond milk go bad this week even though it was dated April 23, so I called Almond Breeze and they sent me a replacement coupon and some money saving coupons to use later.

I went to see my doctor this week. There has been a shortage of one of my medicines and I’ve been unable to get it filled, so we discussed it and she replaced the drug with another one. Has anyone else had trouble getting their prescription drugs?

Freebies

My doctor gave me three free Time Health magazines while I was in her office to see her this week.

One way to stretch eggs since the cost is higher than we are used to is to add rice to them as a filling for breakfast burritos. You can add whatever you want to them such as cheese, ham, black olives, etc. it helps to stretch one or two eggs to feed one or two people.

I’ve read in the news this week though that the price of eggs will be coming down soon. 😊

Meals This Week

All meals are served with either salad or vegetables and may not always be listed here.

* If you see a dinner in bold print that means we had it more than once this week.

Chicken Fajitas, Rice, Corn on the Cob
White Chicken Enchiladas
Homemade Pizza
Ham, Rice and Cheese, Broccoli
Chicken Wraps, Coleslaw

Thank you for dropping by my frugal blog, you are always welcome here. It’s been a melancholy kind of week here. I hope you’ve had a good week though and would love to hear all about your week in the comment section.

    1. That is a great way of looking at it, Cheryl.

  2. Eggs are down to 3.25 at Ingles here. Aldi was 3.91 and Lidl was a whopping 5.80 which is weird since all three of those usually try to match each others prices. The weather has been frightful here, too. Rain pounded on the roof all last night and it has been dark and dreary all week. Here's hoping for sunshine and drier weather next week!

    1. Yes, sunshine and warm weather would be very welcome right now. It is a chilly 26 degrees here this morning. Brrrrr 🥶

  3. Hi Belinda. Another company that gives nice coupons is Bob's Red Mill. I bought a bag of their bread flour and it was awesome. Beautiful pizza dough! So I sent them a compliment and they sent me 6 coupons for any of their products. They are pricey in my area but we have some discount stores that sometimes get them in. So it pays to complain and it pays to compliment. Have a great weekend. Barb

    1. That is good to know about Bobs R3d Mill, Barb. They have an egg replacement right now that I’ve been looking at recently.

  4. The white chicken enchiladas look fantastic! I've been super busy - two birthdays in our family, Nick's last school game, and tennis season has begun! We're also heading out on a ski trip this weekend, so lots of prep work for that.

Hope you have a wonderful week ahead.

  5. Belinda,
Prices have come down, but I read more birds are being slaughtered and the prediction of prices will go back up. I hope not. I don't know about drug shortages, but they have to get every prescription in from another store as though they have none on the shelves. I worry about drugs from China.

    1. Well that doesn’t surprise me at all. Sluggy said we might as well get used to these prices as if they were probably the new norm, unfortunately.

  6. The weather has been crazy here too, such huge swings in temps. I think it is 15 here this morning with the wind chill.
Hope your dr appt went well, and I'm sorry that you have had trouble getting a prescription. I'm so glad that your dr was helpful, and I hope the new prescription works well.
Eggs have come down to $3.89/dozen here this week, and they were $4.99 last week so I bought a couple dozen. We usually have eggs for breakfast one day on the weekend. Yum on the enchiladas; thanks for the recipe.
Hope you have a great weekend.

    1. Brrrr…it’s really cold where you live, Kathy. 🥶 I’m happy to hear that your egg prices are coming down. It’s just the best news! Like you, we like to have eggs for breakfast on the weekends too, at least one day. 😊

  7. (Little Penpen) I’m curious to know which med you are having a hard time getting. My friend has had to run around to find one of her diabetic meds. Amazon hasn’t been able to fill my monthly ibuprofen order several times, but I did find it at Walmart. It concerns me that most of our medications are made in China.

    1. Trulicity was the drug I could not get right now. It’s on back order until March I was to.d. She switched me to a similar drug though. I hadn’t even thought of the China connection.

    2. (Little Penpen) interesting. My friends med was an injectable med too.

  8. Jackie has left a new comment on your post "Third Frugal Friday of Frugal February 2023":

We had lovely sunny and warm weather at the beginning of the week. Now snow, wind and cold.

No problems so far in getting our prescriptions, but I will need to renew mine soon and I have no doctor once again. Could be a problem.

    God bless
