Wednesday: Grocery Store Sale Ads

Today is Wednesday, the day our local grocery stores put out their sale ads. I check the ads online, so I don't have to spend $1.00 on the local newspaper as they do not send them to us through the mail here.

I've noticed since the pandemic started that the sale ads are shorter than they used to be. The reason, I suspect, is that people are not going shopping as often as they normally did.

Since the pandemic started, we have not physically shopped in any store, so I'm only including the stores where I would pick up items through their curbside pickup.

If you're more interested in what grocery stores we are able to shop at here, please refer to this grocery stores located in SE Tennessee blog post.

The stores also have many more items on sale and if you're interested in looking at the ads, simply click on the title of the store and it will take you straight to the weekly ad.

So, items I would pick up this week come from Food City.

Food City
Red Seedless Grapes 99¢ pound
Food Club 18 count eggs 2/$3.00
5 pounds Idaho Potatoes 5/$10.00 ($2.00 each)
5 pounds Mini Peppers 5/$10.00 ($2.00 each)
Split Chicken Breast 99¢ pound

That is a great price for chicken, considering how much ground beef costs right now. I will definitely be picking up some of that this week.

Any good deals in your area this week?

  1. I haven't even looked a tthe ads since the pandemic officially was declared in the US, and just try and be sensible, but quick when I'm in stores. I was shopping for myMIL who had very specifc sale itesm, but she has not asked or sent me a list now for two weeks and I'mnotpushing it since she nor the othes in the family seem to be worried aobut her exposure.

    1. I've not been looking at any of the ads that don't do curbside pickup. I don't want to know what I am missing out on right now. I wouldn't push it with your MIL either.

  2. We will have a food city open next week, and I look forward to seeing their deals. But what a bad time to open a new store. I think they delayed the opening for several months as it is. I used to shop by the sales, but I'm not cherry picking or going to different stores these days, and the loss leaders are non-existent.

    1. I agree Kathy, there are no loss leaders and we are not cherry picking right now either. I'm happy to hear you will have a Food City soon. Hopefully they will have curbside service too.

  3. Those are some good deals. Kroger has whole chickens advertised for .99 lb. this week. I probably won't buy - as I really only like the breast meat.
I don't go out often - but I have been in the stores a few times. You are doing really well with staying home.

    1. Thank you, Cheryl. I'm with you on the whole chickens, I prefer breast meat too. But that is a good price for them at Kroger.

    2. Kroger is our grocery store and easy for DH to shop for us. Script insurance switched us to Kroger, also, which makes it easier to have an outside script pickup. Saves time. Having limited lists of grocery items for both of us, his shopping and maintaining our pantry is done mostly at Kroger and Sam's.

    3. Two of my favorite stores, Anna. If Kroger were closer to us we would shop there the most. I prefer them over most others.

  5. You found some good deals, Belinda.

I saw that BJ’s now has online coupons. They have stopped Printing paper coupons because of the pandemic.

  6. Hi Belinda

I've been going to the store as infrequently as I can - about every 2 weeks, sometimes longer. I used to shop all the sales and really make it my focus. Then the virus came and all that went out the window lol
I just was happy to get what we needed.

This past Monday was the first time in a long while that I really paid attention to prices and decided not to buy a couple treats because they were too expensive!

We are well stocked typically so it really has helped me manage this difficult time.

    Take care,
    Debra

    1. Oh,that's great that you've been able to manage this difficult time within your system, Debra. Our usual plans went out the window too. We are still waiting for our new normal.

  7. We are a three person family. I think I understand that you're a two person family. I never thought that I would recoup the annual fee for a Sam's Club membership in savings. Is Food Club something you have to pay for?

    1. No, Food City is the grocery store and Food Club is one of their store brands. They also have Value Time. Yes, we are feeding two people here. I'm glad you are recouping your Sam's Club fee, that is awesome and one of the things I like about the savings there. The savings on their medicine will pay for the membership too.

  8. Split breasts are my favorite! I know boneless-skinless is the rage right now, but I love the flavor from the skin.

    1. That's great, Meg. A lot of people like the thighs right now too, but they are not my cup of tea. :)
