My daughter had an errand to run yesterday and one of the ways we save money here is to combine errands, which we did yesterday.
One of the places we went to was one of our favorite thrift stores. I'm so glad we went because they were giving away produce inside and outside the store.
There was a limit per family of two items inside the store, but you could take all you wanted of what was outside the store.
Inside the store they had boxes and boxes of these Power Greens, so we took two boxes of those.
Most of what was on the outside of the store was already picked over, but I did manage to get a few things like these cucumbers, tomatoes, and a few strawberries.
Needless to say, I was very grateful for the free produce.
Hi Belinda, The produce is such a blessing, I am sure. We were gifted almost an entire large jar of Adam's peanut butter and about the same amount of strawberry jam, plus some grapes and baby carrots on Saturday. Those little extra things seem to perk up the meals I already had planned, plus the peanut butter will get us through until April, when I buy more with the Senior Discount.
Enjoy your produce! What do you think you'll do with the cucumbers? Will you eat them as is in salads, or do you have any plans for a mini batch of refrigerator pickles? I have a couple of cucumbers in the fridge that I need to use soon.
Wow, Lili, those are great gifts to receive! They certainly do perk up meals.
I'll probably slice te cucumbers as a side dish to dinners this week and take some in my lunch. I have a recipe for tomato cucumber salad, but I don't have any extra tomatoes right now. I already turned these into pico de gallo. LOL
Thank you, Cheryl. One of the churches around here gives bread out, but we are not members. But it certainly is a great resource for those who are. Blessings to you too. :)
I was thinking the same thing about the leftovers, Cathy. Chickens would love them! They even had a whole honeydew melon that was cracked all the way through. OUr chickens loved melons. :)

I hope you have a great week too, Lili. :)
YAY! Got to love free.
ReplyDeleteMy thrift store used to do the same thing. And they always had bread (of all sorts) to give. So sad they closed.
Wonderful that you have that resource available.
Blessings

DeleteWow-what a blessing! Those greens . .yum!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol. We were tickled to get them.
ReplyDeleteOrganic greens are expensive, so you found a great deal. Thrift store near me don't carry fresh produce, I wish they did. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, Nil, they are expensive. I wish we could afford them more often.
DeleteThe basket of produce is a lovely picture. Yay! Fresh greens are always welcome on my table.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anna. Always welcome here too.
DeleteWow, that is awesome!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shara. :)
