Saving Money in My Frugal Kitchen ~ Week #1 October 2025

Preparing Yellow Squash For Freezer

This is a video from The Living Farm YouTube channel on how to prepare yellow squash for your freezer to enjoy in the winter.

If you follow the links, you can watch free videos where Lynn Gillespie demonstrates how she consistently creates  in one  season over $2500 worth of organic food in only 128 sq ft, that is about the size of 3 king size beds, with only a 15 minute a day commitment.

  1. Hi Belinda, your meals sound delicious. I don't really do any menu planning, as I live alone. I do meals according to whatever is on special each week and what I feel in the mood for. I don't have a big appetite but I do my best to eat healthy food.
Thank you for sharing the videos, I will check it out tomorrow, as I am getting ready for sleep.
I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.

    1. Thank you so much, Linda. If I lived alone I would do much less cooking than I do now. Thank you for your comment. I hope you have a wonderful week too.

  2. I took advantage of my weekend at home, and made a few things to get ahead for the week. It feels really nice to have some easy prepped stuff in the fridge. I wish we had gotten anything from or garden, but the squirrels are a complete menace, unfortunately. - Hawaii Planner

    1. Squirrels are wreaking havoc in several different areas of the country I’ve read on more than one blog this week. Making a few things ahead this weekend will be a great time saver later in the week.

    1. Same here, Kim. Her instructions are pretty straightforward though.

  4. Yum! Your meals sound so good!
Nothing too exciting here last week since I can't remember what all I cooked. I remember beef bowl, chili and chicken tortellini soup.
Thanks for the link. She must have a green thumb. Wow, on growing $2500 worth of veggies in a small space.
Hope you have a good week.

    1. Thank you, Kathy. I was floored when I read about she grew in, what I think, is actually a small garden. Your meals sound good too, especially the soup. Yum. I hope you have a great week too.

  5. Your menus sound delicious, I am amazed at all the effort you put in to your meals, preparing, shopping and cooking. Oftentimes I just crave a simple bowl of soup, or a sandwich.
    Thank you for sharing.

    1. Thank you, Jo. I do what I do for my daughter so we can eat dinner together each evening and reconnect. It’s our time to share our day with each other. If it were just me, it would be different. I’d probably eat a yogurt for dinner. 😂

  6. Mmmm, it all sounds absolutely delicious Belinda. This week I hope to do some batch cooking before Kurt and Kris get here for our Canadian Thanksgiving.

    God bless.

  7. Your meals sound very good! I am hoping we will have more luck with the vegetables we plant next spring. Except for an overabundance of tomatoes, ours did very little this year.

    1. Thank you, Anne. I hope you have better luck next spring too. I felt the same way this year as my small garden was non productive this year .

  8. Made broccoli soup yesterday so we had that for supper last night and will probably have the same tonight. We seem to be eating less complicated meals and just eating simply.
