Second Frugal Friday of November 2023

 Welcome to Frugal Friday!

My Frugal Week

Bailey gave me a  pair of pants that were too big for her, so I tried them on and they fit me, so a new to me pair of pants this week.

No air conditioning or heat used this week. I love this time of year and will see the savings on our electric bill. We've already seen a huge drop on our electric bill this month.

I went to the retina specialist on Monday and got injections in both eyes again. He gave me some good news and said there was less leakage and swelling this time, so the new injections are working. I return in four weeks for more, but if this continues, I may be able to go longer than four weeks between visits. That is such uplifting news. 💕

I was able to stay home on Tuesday and moved all the furniture in my room and vacuumed the carpet. I've had an invasion of Asian lady beetles, so they are gone now and I've sealed the hole around the ac where I think they were getting into my room. An article on the Southern Living website says the best way to get rid of them is to vacuum them.

Freebies

We picked up some orange flavored Craisins and potatoes from Trade Day on Sunday.

What I've been Reading This Week

Younger Next Year (affiliate link) by Chris Crowley and Henry S. Lodge, M.D.

That’s all the news to report from here this week.

How were things in your home this week?

Thank you for dropping by my frugal blog, you are always welcome here.

  1. Great news about your eyes! I love the title of the book you are reading. So next year I will not creak and crack when I walk up the steps. LOL.

  3. My friend just started the eye injections. I think she goes back in 6 weeks for the second one and then anywhere from 7-9 times more. They will adjust then. Nice to know they are working for you.

    God bless.

  4. Belinda I'm glad the new injections are helping! I hope you continue to see improvement.

Hand me up jeans - fantastic. I've been holding out buying a new pair of jeans and lucked into a nearly new pair at the thrift shop. They were missing the button. I sewed on a metal button I had.

I've never heard of orange craisins but they sound good. How will you use them? Maybe in muffins?

Purchasing gift cards has helped my frugal week. The farm store has a sale on gift cards $60 cards for $50. This will help with my animal feed purchases. The grocery store is also running a gift card special. Buy a $75 gift card to a specific store and get a $25 grocery gift card. These are stores I shop at so using them won't be a problem.

It gripes me kitty litter has gotten so expensive, I'd much rather use that money for cat food. I've started using cedar pellets. I love it, no more grey mud to clean out of the box. It turns to sawdust when it gets wet and just seems cleaner lol. In the past I've tried cedar shavings and it was a disaster. It ended up all over the house and stuck to the cats fur. 40 pounds of the pellets runs $6 - $7 here. It seems to last longer than the clay litter.

Belinda I read an older post of yours where you used cherry pits to make heating pads. What a great idea! I'll be saving my cherry pits from now on.
I hope you have a great week. Take care. Sky

    1. Thank you so much, Sky.

That was great to sew a button on the thrift store jeans to make them work for you. It saves so much money as clothes are expensive unless you're buying second hand.

I think the orange raisins will work in a salad too, and muffins would also be good or since they are in individual packs you can eat them right out of the pack. I do have to be in the mood for the though.

You did great saving with the gift cards. That is amazing that you got a $25 gift card for purchasing one for $75. What a deal!

I've read up on the pellets and wonder if they work very well, so thank you for your review. They are certainly cheaper than other cat litter.

Oh, I love the cherry pit bed warmer idea! I always save my cherry pits for that reason.,

I hope you have a great weekend, Sky.

  5. Oh that is such good news about your eyes! I hope the next checkup will be even better.
Those ladybugs and stink bugs seem to get in the house every fall. It looks like it will be cooler here this weekend, and I'm thankful for the rain. We have had some wildfires which is a little unusual for our area.
Hope you have a great weekend.

    1. Thank you, Kathy. It was the best news from the retina specialist.

I worry about you being in a wildfire areas Please be safe out there, I'll be praying for rain for you. (We've had some the last two days and it's gotten a little cooler here too as a result).

I hope you have a great weekend too.

  6. Less injections would be a wonderful thing. I remember my Mom getting them. Not fun!

We are at our vacation house and I woke up in the night with a palmetto bug on my arm. NO, NO, NO!!! I was ready to head for home at 2:30 am. Thankfully Hubby found it and killed it. So, I hope your bug problems are resolved.

  7. (Little Penpen)I’m so happy your eyes are doing better. That must be a difficult thing to deal with and I can imagine the anxiety it might cause. When we lived in western NC we had those “lady” bugs. I kept my vacuum hot after them. I remember they had a very peculiar smell!

    1. Thank you so much, Penny. The anxiety and dread 2as really bad when I first started, but it is better now. Thank the Lord.

Yes, the smell is so weird. We keep the vacuum cleaner plugged in for them here too.
