Welcome to Friday!
My Frugal Week
Last Saturday I spent the day cleaning Mom’s room for her. She will be coming home today, so I worked in there cleaning and moving furniture, so home health and caregivers will have space to work with her.
Mom’s vacuum died a long time ago, so she asked me to buy her a new one from Walmart, so I ordered a Bissell for $59 and some Febreeze vacuum bags with Gain. I vacuumed her room before her arrival.
Joy of the Week
Before Mom’s return, Bailey and I made a trip to Knoxville to go thrifting for inventory. We left on Tuesday morning and came home Thursday. We went to multiple thrift stores, stayed in a hotel for two nights, went swimming and ate some of our favorite foods. It was just the break we needed from the stressful activities of the last few weeks.
One of the stores we went into was a thrift store where the proceeds support the local animal shelter. They had cats in the store and multiple cat houses, cat condos and scratching posts for their pleasure. Here is a photo of their yellow cat. He loved my loving on him and scratching his head.
We both found some great stuff like one store had bags where you could fill them with books for $3.00, which is right up my alley. I found another magazine rack for my kitchen storage project. I found a lot of clothes in my size, storage bins, and several other items. We had so much fun and would love to do it again one day.

Belinda
She is coming home! Yeah! I'm glad you found some great stuff!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vickie.
DeleteI'm so glad your Mom is coming home! I'm sure she will feel better and heal quicker once she is home too.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun trip! I love the Smokies and the Knoxville area. Yummy food and so much to do. Great finds thrifting, and I think it does us good to get away for a few days. What a cute kitty at the thrift store. There is a cat store in Pigeon Forge that sells everything related to cats, and they have 3 cats who live there.
Hope you have a great weekend, and I hope your Mom does well at home.
Thank you, Kathy. The cat store in Pigeon Forge sounds right up my alley. I love stores like that. There is one in Chattanooga where you can pay $8.00 an hour to go and love on their kitties.
DeleteI'm happy for you that you had that little get away, treated yourself to a night in a hotel and meal out! Just the thing you needed I'm sure before your mom comes home. That was so kind of you to make sure her and her care team have a good place to come back to-will make all the difference for her ongoing recovery.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sam. Mom is so concerned about how she will do at home, so we are trying to make it as easy as possible for her. Thank you for your kind words.
DeleteSo happy for your mom!! There’s no place like home! I’m jealous of yours and Baileys thrifting trip. Sounds like a dream!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Penny. We had so much fun! I can’t wait to do it again. :)
DeleteGlad your mom is coming home. Just tell her to take it easy! Sounds like a great little vacation for you guys. Sounds fun.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend.
Thank you, Cheryl.
DeleteHi Belinda, I'm visiting from Cheryl's blog. You are a wonderful daughter...getting your home ready for your Mom and her caregivers.
ReplyDeleteHow neat that thrift store has kitties there to love on.
Stay well,
Mary
Thank you so much, Mary. I’m glad you came to visit from Cheryl’s blog. It’s always fun to have another visitor. I hope you have a great weekend.
DeleteGood for you, I am so glad you got out for a nice time. Wish you lived closer as I have two perfectly good vacuums in my garage and I would have given you one. I think you are such a good daughter to care for your mom this way.
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet, Kim. That is so nice of you to offer up one of your vacuums. I believe that we are called to honor our parents. As long as I’m able I want to do what I can for her.
DeleteGlad your Mom is coming home. I live in Knoxville and wish we could have met somewhere. Can you tell me what thrift stores you went to. KARM has gotten so high. So happy you got a small vacation too.
ReplyDeleteThat is so neat! We will have to meet up next time. We didn’t go to Karms as Bailey’s had read online that they were high too. We did go to Amvets, which was good. We went to Goodwill, but their prices tend to be high also. Ladies of Charity had little inventory and high prices. Honey Rock thrift store was great, lots of inventory and low prices. Community Chest was good. Frugality Thrift Boutique was terrible. The name of the thrift store with the cats is 2 Chics and a Cat and we also liked it. I hope that helps some. :)
DeleteThanks so much for the information. Now I have other places to check out.
DeleteYou’re very welcome, D. I hope you find lots of bargains!
DeleteIt sounds as if your trip was a great success.
ReplyDeleteGlad that your Mom is coming home. Less stress for you.
God bless.
Thank you, Jackie.
DeleteBelinda, about 7 years ago I invested in a Dyson vacuum cleaner. It was SO expensive, but worth every penny. For pet hair it's invaluable and it's lasting a lifetime. A good vacuum is a great buy! Your week of meals sounds yummy! I tried some new casseroles this week, I'll post them on tomorrow's art date post. I'm trying to make more frugal meals using things up in the fridge! ☺
