Don't Let the Critics Discourage You ~ George H.W. Bush

Presidential historian Michael Beschloss shared this letter from 1993. A classy gesture from outgoing president George H.W. Bush, who wrote this to Bill Clinton, the man who defeated him.

  1. Critcis can be a blessing and a curse. They sometimes remind us of things we chose to ignore about ourselves that are hard to hear so sometimes feedback opens our eyes.

This letter was such a graceful approach. And refreshing in this time.

    1. That is definitely true abut feedback being able to open our eyes sometimes, Heather. I agree about the letter, very gracious and refreshing.

I needed to be reminded that there are some good people left in this country. I pray that better days are ahead for all of us.

  3. We sure won't see anything like that in this election!

  5. A very classy thing for him to have done! Probably one of the reasons that they seem to still get along so well when they've attended the funerals of John McCain and John Lewis. They may differ politically but they are decent human beings.

    1. Yes, Margie, they are decent human beings. Remember when George Bush the second passed the candy to Michelle Obama? That was so neat. I love that they all get along like that.

  6. Probably little surprise I was not a Bush fan-policy wise, but I never doubted he an dhis family truly wanted to serve the country. Itink Clinton passed the torch to Bush 43 with dignity, as did he ot Obama, and I'd like to to hink Obama did what he could to prepare Trump, espite the way he was treated. Maybe love of country can still come through before January, and we will see another passing of the torch with some decorum.

  7. That is how you do a peaceful transition. I saw on Youtube that George and Barbara Bush had a PARTY the night he lost a try for a 2nd term. This was to thank all the campaign workers. And a young Dana Carvey was invited to do his funny impressions of Bush Sr. Nobody was laughing harder than the ex President. Class act

  8. I never heard about this letter from President Bush to President Clinton. Very classy. Hopefully, one day soon, this type of behavior will return to the White House.

  10. My prayer for our nation is a return to some civility. Well that, line item vetos and term limits.

  11. I do so hope that saner heads prevail and there is civility still for your country.

  12. I agree that I wish a peaceable United States Of America but I feel that no matter where your vote lies we should ALL be very, very concerned for vote integrity. If a country cannot believe in its voting integrity that is the end of that country as it was known. Look at the countries and their conditions with whom that logic applies. Very sad indeed. May it never be here in our great America!! And I feel strongly that if it causes a time of uncertainty than so be it. For the future good of ALL Americans here and those who follow. Remember the wise words such as those that were spoken by our forefathers in the revolutionary and civil wars about the hard times they endured to fight for freedom for themselves and future generations. May we also be willing to endure to ensure it for ours.
