Frugal Friday ~ May 29, 2020

Welcome to Friday and what, hopefully, is the beginning of a great weekend for everyone.

How are you doing during the pandemic? Many are predicting that the world we once knew is no longer and there will be a new normal when all the dust settles.

As for me and my house, we are continuing to stay home. Thankfully my daughter had the wherewithal to start her own business at home while she was still in college and that has helped to keep our household afloat during these trying times.

Last weekend we did a Walmart grocery pickup and had it delivered to our home via one of the locally owned dinner delivery services. This was the first time we had done that and tipped very well as we were so grateful for this service.

Checking our records, the last time we did a Walmart grocery pickup was April 27th, which was approximately one month ago.  So, this latest order should last another month as well.

In our kitchen this week we've been cooking and baking. My daughter has been baking cookies this week and has made both peanut butter cookies and a pumpkin cookie recipe she got from Ryland Adams.

The pumpkin cookies are so good and we will definitely want to make them again.
She has also been watching TikTok cooking videos and had me make her this egg and cheese sandwich.

She really liked it and wouldn't mind me making her another one anytime soon.

This week I decided to use up some melting chocolate I had and made some chocolate covered pretzels with pecans. It was a nice treat for this time of year.

Also this week I sold a bicycle rack on Facebook Marketplace. We practiced social distancing when the buyer came to pick it up as well.

We bought me a new Signature Sleep mattress this week from Amazon. It came via an Amazon Prime delivery truck and we had no problem bringing it into the house and setting it up.

The air conditioner we bought was finally installed last week after Lowe's contracted installer cancelled our appointment. In the end Lowe's had to refund our money as we went with another company, who charged less, to install it.

That's all the news from here this week. I hope you are staying healthy during this uncertain time.

  1. You will enjoy sleeping on a memory foam bed(if you didn't have one before this). I'd sell my child before I'd give mine up! lol

    1. Ha! Ha! The lady we pet sit for has one that I've slept on and I love it. It really helps my back feel better. I'm hoping this one will do the same. :)

  2. I am tempted to get a memory foam mattress. My hips kill me at night when I sleep. I admire all that you and your daughter do to save money.

  3. I may end up getting a foam pad for my mattress - it is just so hard. We had it custom made for hubs and I can't afford to replace it (it was very costly) - but may get something to make it softer.
    The pretzels sound good.

My life hasn't changed as far as daily activities in ages. This hasn't affected me in that way. I really HOPE a lot of things don't go back.
    Have a great weekend.

    1. I hope a lot of things don't go back to the way they were either, Cheryl. There are many things I'm enjoying now that we didn't see as much of before the pandemic hit. A foam pad for your bed sounds good, anything to be more comfortable at night! :)

  6. Oh I have been wondering if those mattresses are good. Please give us a review after you try it out for a while. I wondered if they feel hot in the summer. We have a pillow top mattress and it feels hotter to me.
Yummy cookies. I'm glad your daughter has her own business, and I hope she continues to do well.
Hope you have a good weekend.

  9. I’ll bet you are loving your new mattress! My brother and his wife love theirs. I never have been one to get out very much, so the quarantine hasn’t really been too bad for me. I’m doing mostly Walmart pickup too. However, I am driving six hours tomorrow , to meet my daughter halfway, to pick up my granddaughter for a couple weeks. We will stay in a motel for one night, and I’m bringing my own cleaning supplies!! We will probably skip the continental breakfast, too.

    1. Thank you, Penny. I am loving my new mattress. Oh, that is a good idea to skip the continental breakfast in the motel. You can easily bring some breakfast items with you and avoid the cost of a drive thru too. I hope you enjoy your time with your granddaughter. That sounds fun and exciting!
