Medium Grocery Haul - GDA Peanut Butter

Today we went grocery shopping at Walmart and Cookes. I had sticker shock walking through Walmart, so we didn't buy as much as we normally would at this time of the month.

Here is what we picked up at Walmart:

Orange Juice 2.38
Parmesan Cheese 5.78
Cheddar Cheese $4.22
100 Corn Tortillas 3.38
Lettuce 1.28
Tomatoes $1.98
Green Grapes $4.87
Tetley Tea $1.68
Bigelow Orange Tea $2.48
Mashed Potatoes 78¢
Squeeze Ginger $3.44
Sprite $5.78
Sugar $4.97
Log Cabin $5.64
English Muffins $1.18
Whole What Bread $1.48
Italian Bread 50¢
Carrots $1.54
Potatoes 3.17

The other place we shopped was Cooke's, and we went there because they had a great sale on peanut butter. The eighteen ounce jars were priced at $1.00 each, so I stocked up and bought ten jars. Here is what we bought there:

Peanut Butter $1.00 Jar
Frozen Broccoli 10/$10
Pumpkin Tea bags 74¢

I have to say I was disappointed shopping in Walmart as I can see their prices are just slightly higher than other places we shop. Anywhere from 50¢ and up on several different items adds up and it's the reason I don't shop there exclusively.

Anyway, I'll be checking the sale ads on Wednesday again and seeing what's on sale. I didn't want to pass up the peanut butter sale this week, which ends tomorrow.

  1. That's a great sale on peanut butter! I would've stocked up on that as well.

Walmart here is so much higher than everywhere else. I was actually shocked once I realized *how* much higher. I buy almost no food stuff there whatsoever- I buy bath/body stuff, and cat supplies, and today I bought skirt hangers (which I was surprised they had; this one is regularly out of EVERYTHING!!! So maddening), but that's really about it. Our grocery stores are so much cheaper and have a wider variety of products. :)

    1. Thank you, Stephanie. That was a good price on peanut butter.

I agree with you on prices at Walmart. Our grocery stores are cheaper as well. It's been a while since I've shopped for groceries at Walmart, so I really noticed the difference today.

  2. Groceries are just so expensive! We don't have a walmart with a grocery store - ours has just a few aisles of food. But we do have an aldis and it has made such a difference for me.
You did get a few good deals though and sometimes a few good deals is the best you can do.
Your tetley tea bags - was that for 50?

    1. The Tetley was for 24 Family Sized bags. We like Red Rose, but they are more expensive.

You're so right about Aldi, great prices there for sure. And we have other stores that I check each week. I have a blog post on here that I wrote about all our stores here for people who are local. Cooke's is a small businesses and has local owners.

  3. Great price on peanut butter, Belinda! I don't buy much at Walmart anymore myself, at least not in the way of most foods. I've noticed that the one most convenient to me has limited selections now. I guess that is true of all of them. Anyway, the selection of goods isn't what it used to be. Very disappointed. Rather shop dollar stores and my regular grocery stores. I usually some out better.

    1. I agree, Frances, the selection has gone way down. I was looking for some cucumber ranch and fiesta ranch in the packet yesterday and they had neither one. I'm with you, I would rather shop the other stores here that have a better selection and better prices anyway. :)

  4. I don't go to Walmart often, but I thought they had lower prices. I should compare prices again.

    1. They did have lower prices at one time but it didn't seem that way to me anymore. If you go, let me know what you think, Nil.

  6. Since I have to shop at WalMart because my area is in a grocery store drought I know how to play the WalMart game. I can actually save more there than if I travel to Aldi's. The big thing is where the WalMart's are located. One WalMart only a mile away will be much higher than the other. Since I do have two WalMarts one mine from each other I have seen this over and over again. My last home I had three WalMarts one mile from each other. For example one WM will have Ragu Spaghetti sauce for $2.25 while the other one will have it for $1.25.

If you are able try to go to a different WalMart and check the prices. I am really vigilant about the game they play so I can always beat them.
