Last Frugal Friday of January 2019

While my daughter was thrift shopping last week she found some clothes in my size. She found me one shirt and five dresses all for $3.00 each.

Work:

This week I was able to work two days. As usual I packed lunches and beverages from home both days to save money.

Stayed Home/No Spend Days:

Saturday
Sunday
Monday
Wednesday

Having four stay home no spend days has really helped me save money on gas. I started the week with a full tank and still have one today on Friday. Can't beat that. :)

Part of the week was spent posting items for sale online. My daughter sold multiple items this week while I sold two items.

Freebies This Week:

John Stossel in the Classroom DVDs
Free Calendar

In My Frugal Kitchen:

Added to the pantry:

2 cans evaporated milk 88¢ each

This week I made some fruit and yogurt parfaits, just like they make at McDonalds. The great thing about these is that they cost less than $1.00 when made at home verses the ones at McDs.

They were made using vanilla yogurt, which I bought in the quart size tub and frozen fruit. They made a good quick breakfast or snack this week.

Dinners This Week:

Saturday:  Pizza & Salad
Sunday: Pork Chops, Potatoes, Carrots
Monday: Tacos
Tuesday: Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Peas
Wednesday: Cheeseburgers, Fries, Coleslaw
Thursday: Deconstructed Egg Rolls, Broccoli
Friday: Chicken Pot Pie

That's all the news to report from here this week. How was your week? Any frugal wins or fails? We would love to read all about it in the comment section.

Quiet week here as well. I guess it is that time f the year. We should enjoy, as it will be busy sooner than we know!
    Have a good weekend.

    1. Thank you, Cheryl. Definitely will be busy sooner than we know. I am enjoying it while it lasts though. I hope you have a good weekend too. :)

  2. Have you ever tried making yogurt? I do, and then drain it through a cloth napkin to produce a Greek-yogurt-style product.

Depending on the price of the milk, I wind up with a couple of quarts of the stuff for $2 to $3. The whey that drains out gets used in other cooking projects.

Would be glad to e-mail you the instructions. (They're extremely simple.)

    1. Thank you, Donna. I have made yogurt, but it was a long time ago. It's definitely cheaper than store bought, especially when we can find a gallon of milk for $1.59 at Kroger.

  3. The thrift clothes price rings my bell! When I could eat whatever dairy I pleased, I prepared homemade yogurt, a money saver then.

Later when I have information in hand, I will post last billing for gas and electric home use and an 11-week freebie at Pink Palace Museums.

    money then.

  4. Your yogurt parfaits look great! I recently had to give up dairy, & I miss yogurt very much.

On the frugal side, I was gone for work, so didn't spend anything myself. I did come home to food that hadn't been eaten while I was gone, so that was a frugal fail. It's an ongoing process to ensure that the husband and kids use the food in the fridge vs making something else. . . :-)

    1. Thank you! I would miss dairy too, but I know it's better to not eat it, but I am right now since I am on antibiotics. I like the way I feel better when I am not eating it.

Oh yes, when I am gone to work I can also tell when my child has been in there. LOL I know exactly what you mean!

  5. Quiet week here too. Stayed home all week. Only ran errands today. Last week at Dollar General I saw the prettiest lamp. It was only $12. Since I buy my lamps at thrift stores I decided not to pick it up. I couldn't stop thinking about that lamp. It was perfect for my kitchen. It was completely my personality. Today, the lamp was still there. I snagged it up. The cashier ring it up at $6.00. Score. Thrift store price. I was doing a happy dance.

    1. Cool beans on the lamp being half price. I love it when that happens!

  6. I love the idea of making my own fruit and yogurt parfaits. How long do they keep in the refrigerator?

    1. Shara, I would go by the date on your yogurt. Mine lasted until the end of the week before we ate them all. As the week goes on the fruit thaws in the yogurt and makes juice in the yogurt, which I really enjoy. Hope that helps. :)

  7. Staying home does save money, doesn't it?

My week was not really frugal. The shower valve started leaking, so I had to spend money to fix it. But I saved some money by buying only the cartridge, not the entire handle kit.

I hope you are having a relaxing weekend. :)

    1. Oh, I'm sorry Nil. I'm glad you were able to save money by buying the cartridge only and not the entire kit. I'm glad you were able to get it taken care of as you know home maintenance is so important. I hope your weekend is a good one too. :)
