This was a quiet week here, so not much to report. We stayed home almost everyday except for Tuesday when we had to go to the post office.
Here are our frugal activities for this week:
- I earned a $5 gift card to Amazon from Microsoft Rewards.
- I rcvd a coupon from Fresh Express for a free salad.
- The only expense I had this week was my auto insurance($239) and I paid for that with two sales I made on Ebay. That was the only money I spent this week.
- My gas tank remains full as we only drove to the post office.
- We ate all of our meals at home.
- Continued our cloth only home goals.
- We continue to use the dehumidifier we bought at a yard sale this summer. We've been emptying it twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. It has helped to keep the house from being so hot & humid.
- We did not spend any money on fireworks for the 4th of July.
- We didn't' do any grocery shopping again this week either, so our supplies have dwindled and we'll need to do a grocery shop next week.
- We ate all of our leftovers this week, so no food waste here.
- I continue to declutter and sell things on Ebay this week.
- I've been storing our applesauce in the refrigerator. It's very refreshing and a healthy alternative while trying to keep cool in this heat.
- The reselling business my daughter has is doing well. I help her crosspost her listings to other sites like Poshmark, Mercari, and Vinted.
One of our kittens has been climbing outside things and getting stuck. Last week he was in the pole barn and couldn't get down. We tried to coax him down to no avail and finally just had to nudge him with a pool noodle.
Yesterday he was in the tree next to the porch and couldn't get down and was crying. All the other cats were sitting at the bottom of the tree, unable to help. I guess they were there for support. LOL
It sounds like a wonderful week to me. I dream of having an 'at home" week. Maybe one day. With four kiddos going in all different directions its a little hard right now. :) I also do Bing along with Swagbucks, Branded Surveys, and Gifthulk. I get up extra early and try to get it all done before the rest of the house gets going. I save it all year and use it for Christmas present for the kids.
That's so great, MamaHen. The first year I did Swagbucks, I saved all year and had $220 to spend on Amazon for Christmas. It was terrific. Getting up before the rest of the household is genius on your part.
You are so lucky to find a dehumidifier at the thrift stores. The things people give away- dehumifiers, InstaPots & essential oils, lol. We can score. A dehumidifer is a definite on the home improvement list. DH & I have put it to the top.
Poor little kitten. He's going to be a little daredevil. Least, when he gets to be big he is going to be an amazing climber.
It is miserable here too. Not doing much. Stayed in, ate meals at home, entertainment-books & movies from library. Only went out twice this week- One to pick up ice and two for errands. Both things are very close so hardly any gas wasted. The ice thing- My DH works for a very small company. He's one of the big bosses. Too save on expenses my DH buys the ice and the owners compensate him. This comes out cheaper for them than buying and maintaining an ice machine. My DH is in the construction trade. It is a win-win because we always have a lot of ice in our freezer keeping our freezer energy efficient. Plus, I get to enjoy it too. I love, love crushed ice. We do things like that all the time. One time a major machine broke down and would costs thousands of dollars to fix. I found the manual online for free, and they were able to fix the machine for $20.
I have a Brother ScannCut. It was a special gift this Spring. I love this machine so much. It has saved me so much money. The consumables are very expensive. It takes proprietary blades & mats. Luckily, I have a lot of expertise in the die cutting industry so I know how to maintain my blades and mats to prolong them. Tonight I learned I can use Cricut mats. I have to alter them a bit to fit in the machine. I have to pay $20 for a ScannCut mat that is flimsy and has a notorious reputation for only lasting five cuts. Yes, you read that right. So far, I have gotten over hundred cuts with mine. Cricut mats are 2/$10 and last me over seven years. I have a supply of them since I do own a Cricut. Cross fingers for me that the new trick I learned will work.
That is amazing savings on the ScannCuts! That's so terrific for you.
And I like how you all make the ice work for you too with your freezer. I agree, having more ice in there does help to make the freezer run more efficiently. I have gallon jugs of water in mine that are frozen and that really helps to maintain the cooler temperature.
We didn't score anything amazing this week at yard sales, but we did pick up more clothing inventory to sell. It's been selling very well for us online this summer.
We all are saving money and enjoy sharing about it, don't we?
*When DH retired, his employer permitted him to keep his home office $800 (back then) copier. *TX kiddo saw office cleaners place a hospital wheelchair (like new) in dumpster. Hightailed it to dumpster to check its condition. Like new. Anticipate seeing it. *Hot weather and using cooking/baking appliances on covered porch keeps us cool inside. *Thought of you, Belinda, when DH told me that he is parting with his tee-shirts. No, he isn't. Scissors and tees will meet, as usual. *Using Costco for special-needs glass lens saves DH and me hundreds. *On and on and on.
Yes, we do enjoy saving money and sharing about it, Anna. We all learn from each other. :)
That's great that your dh was able to keep his copier. Those come in handy for so many things. Oh my gosh on the wheelchair. Why would they throw that out? Score on those tshirts from DH. I love that. We have a Costco in Fort Oglethorpe. I've never been there, but always wondered. You'll have to tell us sometime what other savings you find there.
What kids of things do you have success with selling on eBay? I've been thinking of giving it a go but kinda chicken in a way since I have no clue what I'm doing? Can you drop me a note & lemme know some things you've found helpful?
We mostly sell clothes, bought at yard sales and thrift stores. There are a lot of youtube videos out there to show you which brands to look for. We also sell hard goods like things around the house we no longer need. Movies, books, old tea cups, even the if you only have the saucer, it will sell, I sold one this week for $10. Kitchen things sell well. I've sold a microwave dehydrator, butter crock, owner's manuals, cookbooks. But clothes sell the most consistently. There are so many Youtube videos to show you how to resell. Its how my daughter taught herself by watching many of them.
Your week was really frugal. It's great that EBay sales could cover your insurance. The other day I received my car insurance renewal notice and the premium had gone up by $9/month. I need to shop around.
I would definitely be shopping around too, Nil. I do that at least twice a year. One year we had a state wide insurance increase (whatever that means) and all the insurances went up. It is the one thing in my budget that we pay the most money for when I combine all of our insurances together.
Great job! My cousin is opening up a brick and mortar store called Frugal Finds in a little town near here and will also be selling online. I'm going to be doing some consignment stuff through him. He does all the work listing and shipping and I continue to search for product. Sounds like a win win to me!
Oh that sounds great, Debbie. I hope you'll come here and share a link with us when his online store opens up as I would love to see what he has to offer.
What a great frugal week! Hope kitty got out of the tree!! Little stinkers.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cheryl. Yes, he finally got out of the tree. :)
DeleteKeeping the applesauce cold is a good tip for a Summer refresher. I'm putting the rest of the grapes in the freezer....
ReplyDeleteOh yes, frozen grapes are very refreshing too, SLuggy. :)
