Frugal Friday ~ June 15, 2018

Frugal Workshop is now on Instagram if you're interested.

My frugal drink for the week. Kool-Aid lemonade with only about 1/4 cup of sugar. You can save money by adjusting the amount of sugar or sweetener to your taste. I save money by using less sugar.

While perusing YouTube this past week I stumbled upon the Prepper Princess channel. She has some great videos on how she saves money if you want to check it out.

My daughter got to see Tonks and the Aurors at a free concert held at the library this past week. The library is a great place to save money and find free entertainment.

I needed to pick up an RX at Food City and checked the yellow sticker meat section. I found an almost 1/2 pound burger for $1.59 and a package of pork chops for $1.42.

This week I sold my Kitchenaid mixer on Facebook Marketplace for $100 because I did not use it. I bought it brand new twenty years ago for $50 in one of those closeout stores. It was a bargain for me at the time and a bargain for the man who bought it this week.

I perused the grocery store sale ads online. I see a lot of pork on sale this week and ground chuck for $1.99 a pound in the ten pound rolls at Fresh & Low. I'll be buying one or two of those and planning meals around those this month.

Kroger has Kraft mayonnaise on sale this week for 99¢ with their digital coupon and will allow you to buy up to five. So, if we get down that way we'll definitely stop in to get that deal.

My brother in law changed the oil in my car this week and only charged me $20 for supplies.

    1. I am Daria Ilyina by name from Russian but currently living in America.. Am writing this letter because am really grateful for what Mr John Leo did for me and my family, when I thought there was no hope he came and make a way for me and my family by lending us loan, at a very low interest rate of 3%. I never thought that there are still God sent and genuine loan o on the internet but to my greatest surprise i got my loan without wasting much time so if you are out there looking for a loan of any amount i would like to recommend you to Mr John Leo the Managing director of  John Leo Loan Company because he is a God sent man that can change your life forever.... So if you really want to make a better life without any fund scarcity.... I would advise you to get in touch with him through this e-mail below {johnleoloancompany@gmail.com}

  4. I have thought of selling my Kitchen Aid but I still use it occasionally. (maybe next year I will)
Great deal on the meats! 1.99 a pound for ground chuck it the absolute cheapest we ever see it and it only happens maybe twice a year here.
I love that you mentioned alternate ways the library can be used. It is not just about books anymore!

    1. Definitely, Anne. There are so many great things the libraries offer.

    2. Anne, the $1.99 a pound for ground chuck happens about every three months or so here. The only thing is it comes in 10 pound rolls. It's not my favorite way to buy ground chuck, but for the price I'm willing to buy it.

  5. I now make a habit of checking for reduced meat whenever I hit the supermarket - best we get is a 50% reduction on "to be used today" or can be frozen - I've been surprised at the great deals I've gotten.
We have a wonderful public library system here in Toronto along with 3 University libraries. I had a tour of the Fisher Rare book library at the University of Toronto just this morning. I had always assumed that you had to be a member of the university to use it but turns out it's open to the public and I can get a 2 year membership card - which I'm definitely going to get. You can't take things out but there are reading rooms and you simply request the book online and it will be brought to you! I can see some quality time being spent there this Winter!

    1. I check the reduced meat section too, Margie. Usually someone has already been there, but do fin some bargains. I'm glad you are getting so many bargains there. It sure does help on the grocery bills.

How neat that you can get a two year membership card for the rare book library. I would love that! Lucky you. :)

  6. I love my library.
I recently read that some libraries even loan tools.

Good for you for selling your unused mixer. Mine hogs one corner of the countertop and I rarely use it. I still can't make up my mind t sell it. :(

    1. I know what you mean, Nil. When I had my first yard sale, I felt so bad afterwards, like I'd given away all my stuff. Eventually I got over that. I didn't feel that way towards the mixer though, which is good as I didn't use it at all. Now I would never sell my Vitamix as it took me years to get that.

    2. Nil, I didn't know that some libraries are now loaning tools. That is wonderful. I can see that helping a lot of people.
