This week was very tiring. I worked four days and the other day I took my Mom to the doctor. I came home at least one day after school this week and fell asleep. I'm glad the weekend is here.
We stopped at Walmart, so Mom could pick up some things. I picked up some toilet paper and spent $12 on that, which is my only spending this week.
I'm reconsidering subbing at the middle school in the future. The bridge leading to the middle school washed out this week and is now closed.
There is only one other road up to the school in town and they are only letting buses on that road.
In order to sub there I would have to drive farther out into the country on a not so good road and I'm not crazy about the idea.
A friend I spoke with has gotten one nail in her tire and one screwdriver in her tire from this road.
I've already put a new tire on my car after getting a nail in one when they put a new roof on the middle school. Tires on my car are $200 each and I don't make that much in one day of subbing.
Part of me thinks it is not worth subbing at the middle school with this new problem. I can still sub at other schools, so that is no problem. I need to make a decision on this matter.
In other news, I sold parts of a Pampered Chef cheese grater on Ebay this week for $7.50.
My BIL was needing some new butter knives as he was down to two in his kitchen. We found twelve of them at a yard sale last week for 50¢ and I delivered them after I took Mom to the doctor. (combine errands to save money on gas)
My Mom filled up my gas tank, gave me two bananas and bought lunch for me taking her to the doctor.
The weather has been very rainy this week and it's a bit chilly now as a result.
That's our week in a nutshell. How has your week been? Any frugal news to report?
my frugal news is that we sold two small tables for 25 dollars each this week. (side income) - my husband built both of them from spare lumber and used about four dollars worth of paint and materials on both tables....a nice profit for this week on our side hustle.
I also vote for nixing subbing at the MS. Doesn't sound like it's worth it, with the longer drive (gas prices are up) and increased chance of ruining a tire. If it was the only option, that's one thing. You indicated there are other locations for you to sub, that's what I'd do. On the frugal front, I did my weekly top up at the grocery store today and chanced on some great meat bargains for the freezer. Although I am being so careful with money until my ins claim is totally settled (received 2 checks from them today for a total of $1559 and change) but that's for preliminary costs. More to follow. I asked the claims adjuster if the increase in my electric for using those industrial machines to dry out the basement could be declared and she said absolutely. My deductible is already considered, so another $65 and change to come my way. Come next Mon, all of the electric company claim repairs will be completed and I can file that. really trying to stay on top of all of this, get the repairs done, and move on, see where I am financially as the dust settles. My auto ins. is due for renewal, we're pulling DD off of the bundled policy as she paid off her bank of Mom loan (0% interest) and has to have her own, effective with the renewal for May. Ins agent told me that rates go up Mon, so to lock it in, I have to pay today, which is fine. I called before 12 noon, to remind him,and just followed up via email asking for the updated policy, to pay it on line. As of 4:30, it still wasn't done.
Oh no, I hope they get your policy updated, Carol. Mine is due on Monday, so I have that to pay next week. That id great that the Ins company will reimburse for the electric usage. Sounds like you are on top of things, which is great. Thanks for your input on the subbing at the ms too. I appreciate it. It's the way I am leaning as well. I have one elementary school I don't sub at that I can add to my list of school where I sub and it's only 3 miles from my house, so a win-win situation there.
I subbed at a middle school that was six blocks from me. They should pay combat pay at middle schools. If the road is bad, things could possibly be thrown up by other cars. It is not worth it for you to go there.

ReplyDeleteThat's great that you sold the two table for $25 each! Way to go!
DeleteI probably would pass on the Middle School subbing too. Not worth tire damage.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anne. I appreciate your input. :)

ReplyDeleteThank you for your input, Linda. I appreciate it. I agree on the combat pay. LOL
