Frugal Weekend #1 July 2017

On Saturday we went to the 50% off Goodwill sale.

Here is a list of the things we bought:

- One flat sheet and two pillowcases - pictured above - $1.00
- A River Runs thru It DVD - $1.00
- It's Complicated DVD - $1.00
- Magnetic Hall Passes for school - 50¢
- Two Liz Claiborne HUGE towels - $1.50 each
- Brand new Dirt Devil handheld vacuum - $5.00

While we were in Chattanooga on Saturday we stopped at Sam's Club and picked up a container of chives and one onion powder as we were out of both of them. We also picked up two ten pounds bags of gold potatoes and one package of black grapes. Total spent was $28.

We also stopped at Aldi and picked up three cantaloupes, which were on sale for 99¢, and one package of strawberries, also on sale for 99¢.

This weekend I made one pad for my daughter. This fabric came from Hobby Lobby and was on clearance for $4.00 a yard. I just love this fabric.

I bought this flannel sheet at a church yard sale for $1.00 a couple of weeks ago. I decided to cut it up into 9 x 9 squares and make some flannel cloth wipes with it.

I made these double sided and was able to get 39 squares out of it, which made 19 cloth wipes, which made them 5¢ each.

Other frugal things that happened this weekend include:

- I earned another $5.00 Amazon gift card from Microsoft Rewards.

- On Sunday we had a mystery shop for pizza, which we will be reimbursed for later.

How was your weekend?

  1. Good job on all fronts for you!
There is little I need at this point in my life(that I don't already have)so I try to stay out of the charity shops even. One thing we need to pick up is a desk for College Boy so that is the exception. Still working on getting one that will suit his needs for a decent price...no luck so far at the thrift store or craigslist. We will persevere. ;-)

    1. Thank you, Sluggy. Yes, you will persevere. I see one every now and then on Craig's List for free, so be sure to check that out as well. :)

  2. Good deals at Goodwill. even on half off Saturday, ours is so stinking expensive. I just quit going there.
Glad you found so many nice things.
    Have a good day.

    1. Thank you, Cheryl.

I know what you mean about expensive. Ours can be that way too. Some of their clothes are expensive and some are obviously worn. Yard sales can be so much better on many things.

I hope you have a good day too. :)

  3. It sounds like a great weekend, Belinda. What is a magnetic hall pass? It sounds like something school-related, but I can't imagine how it would be used.
    Have a great week!

    1. THank you, Lili. They are magnetic on the back, so the teacher can put them on a desk or filing cabinet. They are really cute and would help to decorate the room as well. I found 4 of them, so I am going to pass them out to the first 4 teachers I sub for this year.

Hope you have a great week too!

  4. I love the sheet and pillow cases. That is such pretty fabric from Hobby Lobby. I will have to look for it the next time I go in. I love the idea of flannel sheets as cloth wipes. Thank you for sharing.

Frugal weekend- It is all a blur, lol. DH & I took advantage of the huge Summer video gaming sales. I picked up ten games for under $30. I will be happily entertained for awhile. Each game came out to under $3. Decided on an Amazon Prime subscription. Well one thing I can get Supernatural, lol. For less than a gallon of gas per week we can have our free shipping on some of the items that DH & I have to travel all over town to find which is not frugal in gas savings or wear and tear on our car. I will still price compare before buying from Amazon since they tend to price gouge. I already saved some money using them.

I am setting up an extra tablet I have to take advantage of Prime's Music subscription so we can have streaming music in our home. I usually get CD's & movies at the library but the theft problem is too much of a lottery now if I will get my holds. I am also downloading Hoopla (library) so I can stream music and movies for free. Our TV can stream from tablet to TV.

I am decluttering my home. I am going to trade some items too. :)

  5. Good deal on your video games, Aiyana. You should be able to save a lot with the Amazon Prime subscription. Sounds like you've been busy too. GOod luck with the decluttering and trading. I've been working on decluttering for a few years now ... just a little bit at a time. Some things are harder than others to let go.
